Ott's "Reform" Plan For Hungry Seniors

"Have they no family? Have they no church connections, no neighbors that love them?" - Scott Ott, Lehigh County Board of Commissioners Meeting, 7/11/12.

His reform must be Soylent Green.

A person who makes light of that remark has no empathy.

bernie, for the 10th time, ott is a former volunteer for meals on wheels. scott's questions were motivated by the fact that their surplus was about 2X their budget, and he questioned their need for an additional grant at that time. molovinsky on allentown ended campaign posts two days ago, assuming my readers have made their choice. bernie, be careful, you're riding an old kangaroo, you don't want to ride him to death.

MM, Ott said what he said, and it's the same tried refrain I have always heard to justify denying help to those who need it. That one sentence sums him up. If I leave voters with one thing, that is it. Incidentally, I watched the video, and his arguments had nothing to do with the fact that they had too much money. That's revisionist thinking, mostly on your part. His argument was that we should not be borrowing money from the Commies.

MM, have you considered whether the Meals on Wheels "surplus" is actually:
1. Endowments that are restricted in their use (as is, not for operating expenses), and
2. Capital dedicated for investments whose income is then used for yearly operating expenses.
Ott specifically stated his ideological reason for wanting to withhold federal money -- that's federal not local money -- earmarked for Wheels on Meals, and it had to do with China (???) and not a cushy surplus. How about citing your version of the "facts" as you put it, with some evidence?

I'd like to weigh in here, but this a bit beyond me. I'm a democrat.

@12:56, i'm sure neither of us know nothing about the specific composition of the surplus, although you want to suggest that you do. the narrative of muller's negative flyer's is that ott is willing to starve an 85 years old women to death. bernie proclaims anybody who questions this narrative has no empathy. by this time on wednesday we'll know if the muller/fleck mud stuck or not, in the mean time, rant on.

Ott volunteers for Meals on Wheels. Muller has spent a lifetime exploiting workers and making them eligible for Meals on Wheels.

Uncle Pennybags Muller is completely out of touch with the working poor. He holds them in contempt and thinks they don't pay enough in taxes already.

Bernie also supported lying philanderer John Edwards and Joe The Bethlehem Wife Strangler Brennan. His endorsements should be viewed in the context of their endorser.

Mike Molovinsky states that Ott's questions were motivated by MOW's financial surplus.

But Ott's actual questions and statements (which no one denies happened) were rooted in his belief that caring for elderly is not a core function of government.

Ott volunteering is wonderful. But how in the world is caring for the elderly not a core function of all of us, government included?

MOW's financial statements and Form 990 are posted on their website. I encourage all to take 10mins and review them. What it shows is an exceptionally well run organization that is serving a large population that can't take care of themselves.

I'll take that over Ott's hope that someone loves the elderly enough to feed them before they die.

I believe that the point was that we, as a community of individuals who care about the elderly, should be able to raise the $30,000 that Meals on Wheels wanted in the form of a grant.

Raising that money without having the federal government borrow it would prevent our children from having to pay back the borrowed money, with interest.

Of course that simple fact seems lost on some who want to spin then truth for political gain. Doing so is tired, old and a disservice to the taxpayers. But those same words would also describe Ott's opponent.

Mike:

Before you make the statement that "Ott was a volunteer" for the 11th time you might want to ask Ott is he was actually a volunteer or something else. If you do, I think you'll find that he was paid by Meals on Wheels. Things are not what they seem with Mr. Ott and everyone would be better served if his statements about his past were not taken at face value.

Our government has made the plight of the elderly worse; yet, many wish to continue the same vicious cycle and continue to harm the elderly. Guys like Steve Baron dump granny in Gracedale for us to take care of while he complains taxes aren't high enough. We all know how this works for liberals Democrats. The government's Prohibition increased crime and dependency. The current drug war has increased crime and dependency. Luxury taxes on yachts cost boat makers their jobs. 60-year old single males are now required to have maternity coverage under government mandate. Name the most hated entities in American life and they are either governmental or highly regulated. Muller sits on piles of money made by keeping workers as low paid as the market would bear. These are the working poor he couldn't care less about and won't. Ott volunteers and calls the Steve Barons of the world on the carpet. He's not running around demanding credit for inefficiently throwing others' money around under the guise of charity.

Ott is Hot!!

Muller is Not!!

BO should change the name of his so called blog. "Spinning for Half Truths" would be more appropriate.

2:20, Look at what Ott said. It's just one sentence. if he had said we need to reform the way we do thinks and eliminate efficiencies and abuse, I'd be with him. But he instead would deny benefits first.

@12:10 you don't buy corvettes on a county salary. You do that with a long successful career in the private sector. That's what Tom Muller has and is the experience he brings to the table.

I think it's unfortunate that these days you kind of need to be a successful profit driven business person to even contemplate running for public office. And I do believe that even modest people who are not very wealthy, could easily be qualified to effectively represent the interests of ordinary people... perhaps even more so.

bernie, the following is part of a piece by wayne woodman, well written.

Scott Ott has run a campaign that is consistent with
returning government to governing. His campaign for Executive has been a positive one without a single negative mailer or communication. As Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see.” This is in stark contrast to Mr. Ott’s opponent. The Democrat campaign for Executive has been an entirely negative one. Our opponent for County Executive has sent mailers, aired radio ads, and blasted emails out based upon the politics of fear.

His campaign has maligned Scott with false facts and out of context statements. His is the kind of campaign which appeals to the lowest form of human nature. It is not indicative of leadership but rather it is a demonstration of pandering and cynicism...

while i was pasting this woodman quote up, i just received a robo call from muller's camp,-full of the negatives spoken about above. it's very creepy.

Bernie O'Hare said...

MM, That itself is a negative attack. He was propelled into office on the basis of half truths and out of context statements against Dean Browning. When he is taken to task for his own words, which you took out of context to pretend he meant something other than what he said, the next claim we hear is negativism.

By the way, I'd like Wayne Woodman to tell me what he means by true facts. Facts are facts.

FYI stupid. Tom had the corvette before he started at the county.

Just a tip, do an exit poll in allentowns 17th ward and youll know the winner by noon.

Latest numbers show Scott Ott maintaining a healthy lead.

Bernie O'Hare said...

It's the numbers tomorrow that matter, not the fictitious polls you create anonymously.

Anonymous said...

The latest numbers? at 11:44 PM the night before the election?

What are you Joe Quinnipiac?

Nobody has any numbers and no one has for weeks. It's all just guesswork and hearsay with these smaller local elections.

We will see when the polls close.

1:24, if I take your money by force, it's robbery, even if I use it to feed Granny. Government should not transfer wealth directly from on eindividual to another. The responsibility of government is the COMMON good, like defense, roads, police, etc.
Caring for the elderly is NOT a core function of government, it's become simply a core practice for politicians to spend your money to buy their votes

Bernie O'Hare said...

There you go,. And if you feel like this whack job, and think starving old people is not something that government should trouble itself with, then Scott Ott is for you.
