Allentown: Now It's Kim's Turn

At this morning's news conference of Allentown City Council candidates, I was happy to see Kim Velez in the mix. The Pawlowski forces did their best to muzzle her, recognizing a threat to their rule. Thanks to courageous lawyers and a fair judge, they failed. Now it's her turn.

My name is Kim Velez and I'm running for Allentown City Council.
They tried to get me off the ballot.
They tried to shut me up.
I'm here today to tell you, they failed.

They will never get me to stop speaking out on behalf of the people of Allentown.
They will never get me to stop fighting against this water lease.

No matter what the Mayor says, this is a bad deal for Allentown.
No matter what the Mayor says, this is a bad deal for Lehigh County.

Send a message to the Mayor on May 21st. Vote Velez for City Council.

I'll have coverage of the other candidates later..

That's the thing it's the best deal for Allentown. Without this deal the city will be in trouble and there's no casino money flowing in to balance budgets and pay pensions.

You are definitely Edwin, or closely associated with him, similar rhetoric.

Kim, run and keep running, the king and his administration will fall!

Don't know more about her than you could learn on this blog but the naïveté that led her to withdraw does not bode well for the next difficult challenge she faces if elected. Convince us you won't be fooled again

Bernie, did you cut out the part of the video where she eloquently explained and detailed her alternative to the lease or was it. Ed Plan bad. Me good.

@4:08 Yes her commitment to Allentown was demonstrated by that incident. Lawyer misconduct aside the quickness she accepted a strangers assertion is discouraging.

There are too many legal injustices that have been perpatrated by the current administration that have gone unaddresed. We will be reading stories in the back pages of the morning call about the crimes against humanity by edwin for years after he is gone.

But A-town does get casino revenue, about $3.7 M in 2012 increasing from about $1.9 M in 2009.

Kim, Don't let the Mayor's flunkies throw you off message. They are all about shutting down transparency and an honest-to-goodness democracy in Allentown. You stood up to Fleck's bullies, n that scares them.

Keep unleashing the poison posse on Fleck's charges O'hater and we will win everything

Time for your drug cocktail, Tricia.

Fleck's bullies consist of an attorney who made a phone call instead of doing the rational thing and just filing the petition challenge. I wouldn't classify that as an intimidating act. More of a stupid one.

I'd call it both. So did the judge, more or less.

Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck could run and win hands down. The puppets and puppeteer are getting nervous and should be worried about their jobs. The people will not forget how council refused to listen.

I am not a candidate for any public office this year. The truth is I should have been elected to public office years ago. The fact is, I feel deeply wronged that my name wasn't even taken off the table for consideration when appointments for City Council was made last year. But this overlooked individual keeps on doing his civic duty despite the politics of the situation. I am a native son of Allentown and Lehigh County, but this native son is treated as an outsider while the outsiders are treated like native sons. The truth is that we should be served by the best of us and I am one of the best of us.

The test of a persons words is staying power in victory and defeat. I definitely over the years had staying power after an electoral defeat and because of this staying power I remain a relevant indivudal in the Allentown and Lehigh County regions whether the Mayor and his minions want that or not.

Time will tell whether any non-incumbent candidate will remain active in their civic commitment should the election results not go to their benefit. And time will tell whether any non-incumbent candidate in victory would demonstratate the same independence and discernment in their service.

Dennis Pearson, I have seen your posts several times... you seem to think quite highly of yourself. I clearly see that you feel "wronged" but not getting an appointment that you so think you deserved...

If you think you are the perfect candidate and so adamant about your civic duty, why didn't you get off your ass like these other candidates have and go out and get your signatures, get on the ballot and run a campaign? I BEG of you please stop whining about not getting appointed and DO SOMETHING! If you are the "second coming of christ" for city council - PROVE it. It's not too late, run against them as an independent.

Please... Put up or Shut Up... I BEG OF YOU.

I will continue to be vocal in regard to local, state and national concerns despite the wishes of other who may prefer me be quiet.

And if I don't believe in myself who would.

I laugh to myself when I get calls asking me to attend certain meetings. After all, I have attended City Council, County Commissioner and School board meetings for years on a regular basis.

Must be I am so known that I am not known. A little Berraism in this thought. While others, well their in the right club or demographic group so their pinch of experience counts more.

My phone number is in the book, and if anyone wants to contact me, I return calls if I am not home at the time of the call.

P.S. === One of the callers asked me how much do I know about the water and sewer issue. That individual must not have known that the late Harry Forker gave me a lot of mentoring on the subject years ago.

No. Fleck was just doing what he gets paid to do. Brennan was wrong, but the judge called his actions naive, and they probably were.

........and who paid Fleck?

The question remains: is Ms.Valez an authentic Allentown resident?
I would like a definitive answer from the young women. Since I vote today, I'm not sure how I'll deal with this continuing doubt.
I suspect I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.
