Thode: Covid Deaths Are Spiking

Steve Thode is our Covid numbers cruncher. He has a sobering report of recent Covid-19 deaths here in Pa.

Today [Wednesday], DoH reported an additional 181 new deaths from COVID. That brings the 7-day total to 514 new deaths, of which 19 were among LTCF residents and 495 were among non-LTCF [nursing home] residents.

That's the largest 7-day total number of new deaths since February 23, and, the largest 7-day number of new deaths among non-LTCF residents since February 5.

Stupefying.

Unfortunately, over the 7 past days, there have been 4 COVID deaths in NorCo and 1 in Lehigh.

Now, 96% of those dying from COVID are non-LCTF.

This is why I still mask up when I visit a store, even though one fellow yelled at me for doing so a week ago.

It ain't virtue signalling. It's common sense.

LCTF? Don't assume everyone knows the latest acronyms being used.

Anyone who would yell at someone for wearing a mask is an idiot. What do they care?

At the same time, anyone who would yell at someone for *not* wearing a mask is an idiot.

If someone wants protection (and the at-risk *should* have protection), they shouldn't wear a flimsy paper mask expecting everyone else to do the same. N95 is quite effective. A military surplus M40 (about 50 bucks on-line) offers nearly the protection of an operating room.

If everyone (and/or their caregivers) takes prophylactic measures appropriate to their level of risk, everyone will be just fine. Ask anyone who has been a chemo patient; they can tell you all about it.

Fully vaccinated with booster and I mask up, as well, when out and about. Many of the 750,000 US deaths could have been avoided. It is a shame...those who have lost loved ones. Early denial and ineptness followed by what can only be termed stupidity on the part of those who continue to deny and profess personal liberty...encouraged by some government leaders, who are morally and ethically bankrupt.

@8:55 - Yes in part he is! Trump lied, denied & golfed during the early stages of the worldwide pandemic and continued to deny it and out right lied about it over and over and now there are over 750,000 dead Americans! Had he been concerned about the virus from day one, we'd be in better shape and less deaths!

A friend of mine was denier adn is an antivaxxer. Well he his wife, his kids, and his grand kids all got it. None of them did anything to protect themselves. Now they are all whining because they caught it and some of them have residual effects. It really sucks to say but I feel bad that they had it and are going through what they are but I am not feeling sorry for them.

Minorities are most affected by authoritarian edicts. They'll be denied healthcare and access. Perhaps admitted lefty racists like Bernie will propose separate drinking fountains for dark people. Everything old is new again in Democratic policies. Racists gonna racist.

Just got back from two weeks in Italy. Everybody masks up indoors. Everybody. They don’t want to go through another lockdown, which for them was very severe. They have a national smartphone vaccination and testing record system without which you can’t go indoors, masked or not.

Some friends said that they knew a “no vax” person and couldn’t understand how they could not want to protect themselves. I sighed.

Only half the people in the Tilghman and Cedar Crest Giant were masked when I went in yesterday. Again, sigh. Look at the COVID-19 layer on Google Maps to see why I sigh,

There were reporting issues with the state system over the couple weeks that have resulted in backlogs that are now being reported. There may be a spike going on, but the data right now doesn't show it.

The data you present (assuming its correct) is actually pretty good proof that somethings off with the data - 5 deaths total in the last 7 days in two of the states more populated counties combined doesn't support a statewide death toll of 514 over the last 7 days unless somewhere there was a data dump done somewhere.

Regarding the person who gave you trouble for wearing a mask...as another commented above, the person is simply an idiot. But I do agree with their statement that anyone who yells at anyone else to wear a mask is just as much of an idiot. Everyone has their level of comfort and there's gotta be an "off ramp" at some point for COVID regulations. A good portion of population has hit this point.

The CDC Data Tracker info doesn't agree with the information on the PA DOH Coronavirus Data webpage. The DOH graph for Deaths by Day shows the last time there were that many deaths in a day was January 6, 2021.

of course, it's going up you shoved a large population of unvaccinated people with limited impulse control into a communal situation of course the infection and death rate is going to go up. Putting children back into school before the vaccine was approved for people under 12 was stupid. The virus doesn't care about your age, you are simply a meat sack for it to reproduce in
