Covid-19 Cases Rise in Eight States

According to The Hill, there's an uptick over the past two weeks in new Covid-19 cases in Alabama, Arkansas, Hawaii, Missouri, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. All but Hawaii are below the average vaccination rate.

One could always look at the data themselves.

Click on individual states and then look at the seven day moving averages.

When numbers are low overall, "trends" described qualitatively can often sound much more impressive than when viewed graphically.

I'll be traveling to Texas soon, but I'm fully vaccinated so I'm not too concerned. It is those who refuse to get vaccinated who put themselves and their unvaccinated loved ones at risk. Unfortunately I had an unvaccinated uncle die last month from covid and his last weeks were sad.

My God, the horror. Double masks. School, church business closings. More stimulus because fear is infrastructure.

I'm vaccinated and the hell with the unvaccinated who are at a less than 1% risk of dying. Those careless cavaliers are on their own.

Remember, though, that "Cases!!!" is a metric often used to inflame rather than inform. It counts asymmetric infections / false positives, the sniffles, and death with equal weighting. It also does not disaggregate by clinical and demographic categories. Statistically, the count is virtually meaningless, and it is far more a political concept than a scientific one.

Far too many COVID fetishists have no background in mathematics. Remember when so many of them were running in circles shrieking that contagion was "Exponential!!!" while having no clue what that meant? "Cases!!!" is the downstream equivalent of that.

Well put. Your point is something that's always been lost on COVID fetishists with no background in mathematics and the sciences. The louder these ignoramuses shrieked "It's Science!!!" the less they knew about even the simplest statistical concepts.

Increases still are increases, but everything has a context.
