Toomey To End Political Career?

Just yesterday, I told several people that US Senator Pat Toomey would be running for Governor instead of seeking re-election. According to several news sources, it will be neither. We can hear from Toomey himself at 10 AM.

I voted for Toomey each time he ran for Congress and Senate. But I'm thrilled he's leaving.
I'm always thrilled when politicians hang up their spikes, instead of remaining on the public nipple until they die - which is usually long after they've become senile and are regularly shitting their pants. Citizens' legislatures were not meant to be reform schools and retirement homes for career grifters. But they are.

When is Casey retiring?

I rarely agreed with Pat Toomey, and feel he was an "absentee Senator". He was unresponsive, and unaccountable most of the time.

I only met with him once as a constituent; he rarely allowed constituent input to sway his extreme positions. Ironically, I serve as the Chair of the Board of Supervisors in the township where he lives, and have run into him from time to time in the community. When I have, I kept it civil, because I would not want to be ambushed in public.

I do feel, for his family, this was the right thing to do. I also feel it was the right thing to do for the voters of Pennsylvania.

Casey should also retire. But that would be honorable; something he's never been. Casey will be there long after his comically ill fitting dentures have been lost in a Capitol restroom.

I've always liked Toomey in general, but he's had a number of chances to be the individual and honest voice of Pennsylvanians the past 4 years, but like most Republicans in the Senate has meekly prostrated himself before Trump. Guess he sees the political cost of what he's done and figured out the math won't add up for future runs.

Just because you have a particular party initial next to your name should not mean blind faith and obedience to that party. You represent other citizens beyond your party. You can do this in DEEP Red or Blue states or districts, but in a swing state like PA? Its a recipe for failure.

This Senate seat will look mighty fine on the Democrats' side of the aisle.

Philosophically, Toomey and I are miles apart. Don’t think I’ve ever voted for him. But he has never been divisive.

His time to be tried with his banking backers can now take place.

We are currently a RED state and as such this political opportunist fits right in here among his loyal uber conservative constituents. Club for Growth? Toomey made no secret of the fact that it was always about the money and Wall Street and corporate donors to his campaigns. He is filthy rich and could care less what the average Pa. resident cares about or wants. Good riddance but why wait til 2023..perhaps to collect a bigger pension? GTF out now and do us all a favor!

Why wait and why not simply resign now? 2 years on the dole?

Palowski should be out of jail by then and perhaps Lisa already started collecting campaign contributions?

He explained that he still has things he'd like to get done in his remaining two years, and actually feels he'll be somewhat more able to work bc he won't be running for re-election.

Toomey and I are miles apart on most issues. I've never voted for him. I do think he fears the public he serves, which is obvious in his town halls. But he has been subjected to ugly personal attacks over the years. I've always found him honest and responsive when I've been in a position to question him. He is intelligent and thoughtful, which makes him a formidable opponent. That's a good thing. May the best ideas rise to the top.

I've always been struck by some kind of inner sadness in him. I never quite understood it, and may be misreading him. He is a decent man and is totally unlike some of the unthinking Trump supporters. I hope his replacement is as thoughtful and as intelligent and a little more liberal.

Bernie, that thing you are seeing in him is the black hole in his soul, and not the sole on a shoe. Those that talk the best are the slim that gather like green pond scum around the edges feeding off suculent algea and other Xcreted things!

Toomey is a stooge of the Heritage Foundation. A business elitist. A terrible congressman and a worse senator. Of course you would think he is a decent and honest person as your moral compass is so often misaligned.

I'd say you're the piece of shit.

That's "couldn't care less."

I agree with Joyce Moore, he was an absentee senator, unresponsive, and unaccountable most of the time. The only thing I agreed with him is "TERM LIMITS." It's time to send Mr. Smith to Washington again.

He can not get out fast enough. He never cared about the people he represented. Don't let the door hit ya on your way out !!!!!

"His time to be tried with his banking backers can now take place."

Or he could just fly to Pedophile Island with the Epstein gang like a good connected Democrat would.

I was so so on Twoomey, but I do believe he is right about term limits.

why don't all you demorats wake up! These congress & senate swamp people on both sides only care about themselves and their careers! Stop blaming only one side! Pat Toomey ran on term limits his first term, and you know where that got him, he lost his 2nd term! The career establishment swamp politicians tell these new congress people, YOU DO WHAT WE TELL YOU TO DO, or you won,t get any committee positions! TERM LIMITS WILL NEVER HAPPEN! I commend Pat Toomey for getting out! You would not see Mitch McConnell and Joe Biden do that would you!

The best PA U.S. Senator in my lifetime. Sad to see him go. Maybe he will change his mind.
