A few days ago, former Judge Leonard Zito learned what it means to be a former judge. His reserved. parking spot is gone!
Northampton County currently has three former judges who work at private law firms, including Judge Zito All three still assist the courts by conducting settlement conferences in civil matters. But that's no reason to give them reserved parking spots.
When Judge Zito gave up his black robe, he also gave up his parking spot.
As I understand it, Executive Lamont McClure thinks it's bad policy to set aside premium parking spots for former judges who might be at the courthouse once or twice a month.
I feel bad for Judge Zito because he was perhaps the hardest working judge Northampton County has ever seen and he is well respected. But McClure is right.

6:25, this is what happened. I have a high opinion of Len Zito, but as another reader observed, he is not royalty. The best way to stop entitled attitudes is by pointing them out.
The parking for employees at Northampton County Courthouse is soooo unfair. Every employee should have a designated/numbered parking spot not just certain employees with specific positions. There are days when you can’t leave for lunch because you won’t be able to find a parking space when you return. The whole lower level of the garage is reserved parking spaces, for whom, not me obviously!!!! Unacceptable! Treat all your employees the same, give each employee a reserved spot or make everyone have to fend for themselves !
Security concerns mandate that judges have reserved parking. The need to respond to emergencies is why several spots should be open for the DA and sheriff. The exec sometimes needs to visit several offsite locations. Same is true of DCED DIRECTOR, Administrator, Human Services Director, HR Director and Solicitor. So they should have reserved parking. But it should end there. There is no reason for reserved parking for other employees who spend their entire day at the courthouse. I do like the idea of spots for expectant mothers. And of course, there should be a spot for me, right outside the rotunda, so my servants don’t have to carry me as far. They get tired.
Start a valet service I'm sure the County will make money

Maybe some can teach the people with parking spots on the lower level to drive the right way. It's not to hard there are arrows and signs all through the garage to so direction of travel

I understand that McClure eliminated a parking spot that was reserved for handicapped parking so his spot would be the closest to the building . I wonder if that is true ??
I am sure these new spaces will all be reserved. I here there will even be one reserved for the new Sherriff K9 Dog who doesn't even drive.

I totally agree...Its gotten worse over the last few years, especially under Brown who gave spots away to all of his buddies. Half the problem is that the Sheriffs seem to think its ok to park their own vehicles in the permit spots and then park the sheriff vehicle in the non permit spots. This essentially takes up two spots for one person throughout the day. The other issue is that the Maintence department has 5 -6 spots that they don't need. You would think the county would want to make those visiting the courthouse as pleasurable as possible and not have to walk a half mile. Lastly, I agree they should treat all employee's the same.
He's not "Judge Zito" anymore. If you retire and ride off into the sunset you get to keep the honorific but once you go back into practicing law you are just a schlub like the rest of us.
