Updated: Fed ED Resigning Today? Believe it When You See It

Both WFMZ-TV69 and The Morning Call are reporting that Allentown Mayor Edwin "Fed Ed" Pawlowski is going to resign today. The WFMZ report cites multiple unnamed "sources," while the newspaper is hanging its hat on just one.

I have no problem with relying on anonymous sources so long as the reader knows that is what you are doing. I do that all the time. Also, I have heard the same story from multiple sources myself. According to Emily Opilo's twitter feed, Pawlowski briefed top staffers at a meeting with them Tuesday night. This would have taken place after Judge Juan Sanchez canceled Friday's "status conference."

But we know that his wife Lisa wanted the City to carry the family on health insurance a bit longer even though that would be theft. From his Facebook page (since deleted), we also know that Fed Ed stated yesterday that he is broke.

So while I do think he's going to resign eventually, and am hopeful it does happen today, I'll believe it when I see it. He is just arrogant enough to stretch this out a bit longer, completely oblivious of the reality that he would be hurting himself at sentencing time.

Updated 3:40 pm, Mayor Resigns! - My thanks to a reader who attended Fed Ed's resignation, and who was kind enough to provide this update: "Attended mayor's news conference, he did not take questions. He said his resignation is effective 5 p.m. tomorrow (Friday). Stated he would appeal. Said he was proud of the revitalization of a "rust belt city" in his 12 years in office. Expressed gratitude for support he has received from citizens. Expressed regret the citizens had to endure his legal process. His son attended the conference in front of his South 11th Street row home but not his wife. He was welcomed with applause from a contingent of recognizable City Demo Party members. One individual walked around with a sign indicating he was "For Sale" and the TV crews all interviewed sign man after the event ended. TV stations from Philly were there. Mayor was non-emotional. His lawyer then talked for a much longer time, not saying much except confirming there would be an appeal process and reminding folks the mayor could have delayed his resignation for some time prior to this week."

The judge should send Ed to a prison in the State of Denial.

Does it make sense now, that I voted for him last November, thinking at the time my vote helped ensure that in the event of his likely conviction my city would see a Democrat appointed as replacement mayor? (This thinking assumed the independent/write-in candidate would fall short of votes to defeat the GOP candidate). Do I get a pass now? Does my desire to see a Democrat in office validate my vote? (I also voted for Hillary: Those whose disdain of Clinton who either voted for 3rd-party candidates or stayed home with their dreams of Bernie Sanders are why we narrowly have Trump as president).

It still was a terrible vote. You don't vote for people you know atre bad simply bc of their party. That simply disgusts me.

5:46,

Straight party voters are a large part of our political problems. Vote for the person, not the party. You should always be careful when you follow the masses, sometimes the "m" is silent.

I concur BOH. I don't believe it until I see it. He's broke, he's also morally corrupt. He demanded the trial and added expenses in hope of bullsh--ing the jury. It failed, and now he has to pay the piper as well as Jack McMahon. Too bad for the lying POS, he earned it. Maybe Phillip Cameron can run a go fund me campaign and pay some of the 1/2 million legal fees or his friends in the Syrian and Hispanic community can pay for all of his debts.

I think your right Bernie. He is not going to resign. Why? He is on the payroll coveting benefits and pension everyday he works for him and the "First Lady" and family. He is done so why would he? Does it matter at all. He has a life sentence really and his life is trashed.

My advice to Ed....like Washington... " Stay the course". Your innocent even in your own mind and ride it like a tick on an old dog. Let your faith guide you. Don't resign but stay till they force you out the door. The family needs the benefits and paycheck.

Lord have mercy over this man.

When at the end of 2019 and First Lady becomes Madam Mayor P. you will all watch as she is crowned the first woman Mayor of Allentown.

She is going to run for his seat and win! The Syrian and Hispanic community will come in droves to vote for her.

If Pawlowski really IS broke, might this be a good thing? Public Defender through all appeals. Medicaid for his family, food stamps, heating assistance, college scholarships, etc.

He was up and Tweeting two hours ago. It ain't over 'til it's over.

He has scheduled an announcement for 2:30 pm. I could see this guy resigning with an effective date of 12/31/21.

Might have to jump on a bus or grab an uber and secure a front row seat with my fly open.

Is he eligible for city pension? Remember, the golfing firefighter was allowed go buy time/benefits.

This is eerie. Too much like Budd Dwyer. If King Palumpa starts rambling about how his wife should assume the position of Mayor, someone should bum rush him just in case.

12:48: he's R Budd Dwyer and do ya think?

I would caution City Council to document any misfeasance/malfeasance in office on the part of the mayor in accordance with city policy and the city personnel code and ensure that the HR Director and office are doing their job as required!

I'm not sure whether City council has to accept the resignation. In other words, are there any potential beneficial monetary impacts for the mayor going this route, as opposed to being removed from office!

Scum bag and all those surrounding him should be questioned about their mental health.

Edwin Pawlowski is a sick man.
The Allentown Democratic Party is a collection of fools liars and thugs.
All the NIZ development on the planet can’t save this shithole.

Anonymous said...

Will you now let this poor man and his family alone?

Anonymous said...

No.
Not today.

Anonymous said...

Ed’s gonna draw down his pay for one more day........and why not?
It’s hard work.

Cm’on Allentownn, you elected him, you deserve a replacement of equal ethical standards. A Boss Tweed type who can put together a corrupt organization equal to no other. What’s Chaka Fatah doing when he leaves jail. How bout Rod Blagojevitch? He sells everything. The problem is that the corruption probably runs much deeper than what we have seen, a real culture of crap. This guy was re-elected. His community endorsed his behavior. How deep does the dirt go?

"Will you now let this poor man and his family alone?"

You act as if citizens dragged this thing out forever and brought stress upon the family. The only person responsible for his and his family's misery is Ed Pawlowski. The only family member I've seen mentioned is his wife, who inserted herself in public comment and is lucky she's not going to jail. Fed Ed opened a deep gash in the fabric of his community and it will take time to be repaired. He's not yet resigned, as it's another thing he chooses to drag out. And you're impatient for him to be left alone? Cry me a frickin' river.

Is he still on State Committee? If so, he needs to vacate there too. Early on, some gave him the benefit of due process as we ourseleves would expect the same. The verdict is in now. He does not represent our Party.

He did "us" a great service by resigning? Has anyone told this idiot that within days when that meeting happens with the Federal Judge Sanchez... along with the fact is the LAW says so.. your done Ed.. you did us nothing but bullshit and grief along with the business's you hustled and people lives who are ruined because of you. You embarrassed yourself, ruined your kids lives and left a wife to now look for a meal ticket.

You just a mentally ill POS-period. You did NO ONE "best interest of the city"... the best thing for the city is the sooner your handed your orange jumpsuit.

He and ALL the rest of the Democratic Party enablers who were still standing by him at his speech today need to realize that they are destroying the Democratic Party in Allentown. As a Democrat I very much resent their wrecking the party and trashing their city.

6:51, Rick Daugherty is fortunately NOT the Dem chair. And he won’t be anything else after yesterday.
