Boys Hoops: One District XI Championship Left, Will Be Played Tonight

Moravian Academy earns its first District title.
6A - Will it be East Stoudsburg South, who has never won a District title, or will it be Northampton, which is in its first district title match since 1973? The Cavaliers have been able to win without one of its best players, Greg Eck, who has been hobbled by a torn ACL. But now it's down two starters. Jasiah Raso fractured his foot in the win against Pocono Mountain West. Northampton has no injuries. They are, after all, Konkrete Kids. Chip is tonight, 7pm, Easton Area Middle School.

5A - Allentown Central Catholic High School. - The Vikings defeated Bangor for the Chip on Thursday night, right before the weather started playing games of its own. ACCHS will face Greencastle-Antrim (22-5) on Friday, 7:30 pm, at Freedom High School. Bangor will play Lampeter-Strasburg (25-4) on Friday, 7:30 pm, at Easton Area Middle School.

4A - Bethlehem Catholic High School.- Beca also won a subregional game, whatever that means, against Lower Moreland on Saturday as it draws closer to a state title. Beca next faces Nanticoke in a game at Liberty High School on Friday, 7:30 pm.

3A - Notre Dame Green Pond (Bethlehem Tp) - Yes, Notre Dame lost to Valley Forge Military Academy, but that is a "subregional" game, whatever that means. It is still the District XI champ and plays Wellsboro at Troy HS on Saturday, 6 pm.

2A - Moravian Academy (Bethlehem Tp) - With a convincing 72-38 victory over a tough Panther Valley, Moravian Academy has locked up its first ever District XI chip. Despite being at the Becahi Central girls' game earlier that day, Morning Call senior sportswriter Keith Groller must clone himself and has the details. Jordan Holmvquist was top scorer with 18. Sophomore Abe Atiyeh was right behind him with 13, including three 3s. That team needs to begin making the summer pilgrimage to Cedar Beach.

Moravian faces Paul Robeson (Philadelphia) on Saturday, 3 pm, at Freedom High School.

1A - Nativity BVM (Pottsville). Nativity lost the subregional to Susquehanna Community, but will still play Sullivan County March 9 in the state tournament because it has already qualified as District champ.
