Conor Lamb Victory Good news For Morganelli

Northampton County DA John Morganelli is a tough-on-crime centrist. His views are similar to those held by most people, Democrat and Republican, living in the Lehigh Valley. He is pro-union and more interested in seeing that people have jobs, adequate health care and decent wages than seeing Nancy Pelosi as the next Speaker. His views are very similar to those held by Conor Lamb. Unofficially, Lamb has jest been elected to Congress in a Pa. District that Trump won by 20 points. It's pretty clear that Morganelli is going to win he congressional race here because most voters are, like Morganelli, moderate in their thinking. , .

Mr Morganelli is going to win, welcome to the 7th congressional district

MacKenzie and Simmons able to see writing on wall maybe Browning will see the light.

Simmons has been a grave mistake for that area since the beginning, talk about being ineffective and the first person that comes up is Simmons

I don't believe the Lamb race will be a mirror for Morganelli. Lamb ran a campaign that Morganelli won't be able to duplicate, IMHO.

A Trump D beat a Trump R. Winning.

@5:21
Good spin on a defeat. Trump can claim victory no matter who wins. Trump should put you in charge of his re-election team.

I don't know if it means anything, but just a few observations from my traveling to Pittsburgh the past two weekends.

Republicans, when they cannot win on ideas alone, do "fear" very well. A few of the commercials I saw, some outside group supporting Saccone were heavy on trying to hang Nancy Pelosi, and another on drug violence, around Lamb's neck. Lamb's on the other hand, were either positive ads about his ideas or rebutting the GOP fear commercials with facts.

Driving out on the day of the Moon Twp rally, we pulled into a rest area on the turnpike in the middle of the state, and there were at least 6, maybe 7, buses of middle school to high school aged kids with MAGA hats. I found it interesting that for a rally ostensibly to motivate voters of the district that outside kids were being bused in (scream factor for the enthusiasm factor?).

I passed two billboards on the way back that I had not noticed the first weekend, that had "Impeachment... Make America America Again" on it.

These are just casual observations. The only weight I'll give to them is that this should be an interesting mid-term season.

Lamb ran a good race- Saccone was a terrible candidate

Have the military absentee ballots been counted? Or have those been invalidated by the Democrats yet ?

This is good news for Morganelli. Moderate Ds had gone the way of the buggy whip and Trump has pulled both parties into his vortex in the PA, OH, MI, and WI. Morganelli will have to resist the wacky MSNBC base and soldier on. If he does, he wins. Outside of Philly, Pittsburgh, Allentown (where Democrats were cool with a soon-to-be felon), voters from both parties prefer their Ds less extreme.

try
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Saccone

"Saccone has purposely stoked this portrayal, calling himself "Trump before Trump was Trump" and the special election a referendum on the Presidency of Donald Trump"

well all the other trump fan club members in Congress might want to think about wanting to be Comrade trump's best buddy.

John has got a lot of splain’ to do on his “gun ban”.

Lamb of PA, take away the sins of Trump's world.

There is no chance Valley Democrats nominate a moderate commonsense law and order DA. Folks I know who are progressive Democrats openly loathe him. They simply won't allow him to win a nomination and will not learn a lesson from western PA. Their nominee is going to be Susan Ellis Wild. And Republicans are licking their chops at that prospect.

Let's review Conor Lamb's positions. (whether he governs like this remains to be seen). But as a candidate he:

-Opposed Pelosi openly. Stating he would not vote for her as leader.
-Embraced 2nd Amendment, ran ads with him holding and firing a AR15.
-Personally opposed to abortion.
-Didn't attack Trump ad nauseam in fact stayed away from national narratives completely instead ran a local campaign.
-Touted his military and prosecutor experience
-Declared Independence from his party
-Did not engage in or play footsies with any sort of leftist “Resistance” rhetoric. Not once.
-Supports Trump tariffs

Remember, in this special election Conor Lamb did NOT have to win a primary. He was chosen as the nominee.
Very few places he would win a closed party primary. Does anyone honestly think the activist wing of the Lehigh Valley Democratic Party will nominate anyone close to having the above credentials?

I dont care. I wont vote for John Morganelli

I am most definitely a moderate Democrat however Morganelli's stance on crime goes against my belief that we need to do something about mass incarceration and the unfair criminal justice system. Morganelli seems to think everything is just fine given the brochures of seized property he sends out to unthinking rubes.

Can I have another choice?

Licking their chops so much that Simmons and MacKenzie dropped out.....

"He is pro-union and more interested in seeing that people have jobs, adequate health care and decent wages"

If Morgranelli has views similar to this why would he be associating himself with the Republican party? These are progressive ideas and the Republican's have shown us time and time again that they are regressive and will shun these concepts at all costs.

You don't think they'd vote for a former Marine?

The razor-thin .26% Democrat lead could potentially vanish if Saccone manages to get a little over 60% of the absentee votes that remain to be counted.

Trump is Russia's favorite, Real Americans won't vote for him or his ilk. A true patriot like Lamb should have easily crushed a weak opponent, but with Fox Fake News, Coked Brothers cash along with all the other billionaires who want to keep their tax cuts and rich privilege, and probably most importantly racism, bigotry, and fear, Trump Nationalist Party almost succeeds. Welcome to Amerika, Russia 2.0 with porn stars and reality TV.

Hillary won the military vote in NC. Republicans dont hold a monopoly especially when they vote against working families.

Morganelli will have a difficult time defeating his primary opponents who are much more in sync with the rage that currently consumes the Democratic Party

Bernie O'Hare said...

He will easily win the primary. He's the only name most voters will recognize, and with positive feelings.

I am a moderate who voted for Hillary over Bernie but will vote for a more liberal option than Morganelli is one is available. Also do not like his lock em up attitudes.

Absentee votes are counted election night and included in the precint totals. The only votes missing would be military votes.

Charlie Dent was getting besieged by the extremists like Gloria Lee Snover,an opportunist Justin Simmons decided to pretend he is a Trumpion and dive in. They both helped Charlie say he's tired of the horseshit. They are the main reason John will win.

There are lots of good candidates in this race. Several brands. You are certainly welcome to vote for a candidate more in tune with your beliefs. There are several from which to choose.

John is a prosecutor who is tough on crimes and wants to criminalize gangs. He is a blue dog Dem, like most of the Dems here in he Lehigh Valley. But if you would like a more liberal candidate, they are out there.

"much more in sync with the rage that currently consumes the Democratic Party"

Have you been to a Trumpster rally? Talk about rage,. They are frothing at the mouth. The bumper sticker slogans fly like ragweed on a windy day. The GOP has gone nutso and you talk about rage???

Anonymous said...

Scaocone typifies the new GOP. He ran around saying democrats hate America and Christians. Seriously, who is nutzzz? This is the new normal in the republican Party and the majority of America is tired of the hate.

Sorry Bernie. I know you love Morganelli. But to think his district this district has anything to do with the Lehigh Valley is just not usin' you noggin. Have you been to that part of PA? Did you look at the demographics?

Anonymous said...

Like the spineless Arlen Spector, Morgy will tack to the left (gun control, etc.) in the primary and tack to the right for the general. No philosophical underpinning; just tacking where it gets him elected. Politicians are lower than squid shit.

Anonymous said...

I don't need a tough law and order guy as my congressman. I need someone w/common sense who can negotiate and see the big picture. I don't believe that's Morganelli.

Bernie O'Hare said...

3:52, John’s views are well known and consistent.

Clinton received more votes from the counties of Lehigh and Northampton (closer to the current makeup of the 7th if slightly more blue with the addition of Stroudsburg ) than Trump did in 2016. Therefore a far cry from the district Trump carried by 20 point and which went for Lamb yesterday. This is not a good message for Morganelli in the primary. This is not a wave he can surf. The women are coming.

@7:57 "Does anyone honestly think the activist wing of the Lehigh Valley Democratic Party will nominate anyone close to having the above credentials?" No!!!!

Bernie O'Hare said...

There really is no "activist" group. There are lots of small groups with their own agendas, although I have seen that the Democratic women have really galvanized. They are mostly nice people. But I won't vote for someone just bc she is a woman any more than I will vote for someone for any reason.

BO 8:56, "But I won't vote for someone just bc she is a woman any more than I will vote for someone for any reason." Like not even the right reason? WTF does that even mean?

Bernie O'Hare said...

It means that who I vote for is determined by more than one factor. Not complicated.

I'm going to agree that Lamb was a fresh young face with a military and legal background, a better candidate who ran a better campaign. I wouldn't view this outcome as any indicator for Trump, Morganelli or anyone else. If anything, I found it interesting that a lousy candidate who ran a lack luster campaign and who looks like a career politician almost beat the clearly better candidate.

Anonymous said...

I would have to disagree about most voters in CD7 being moderate in their thinking. That was maybe the case in CD15, but not so much anymore. If the R's keep throwing their farthest left candidates at us, why do we have have to settle for a moderate D to represent us? Morganelli's stance on a woman's right to choose is a real turn off, among other things. I think he's out of touch with the voters in his district.

Sorry, but this is rationalizing a bitter loss. Repubs and Trumpions in particular are known for voting for whoever the R candidate is with no deviation. They came out in droves for Roy Moore for crying out loud. This was a surge of Dems with a small percentage of sensible R's who want to end this Trump nonsense before it's too late. This same sentiment will wash over the entire nation. You don't erase a +20% difference with a better candidate alone.

Morganelli is Pro-Life

Saccone ended up with about 46% of the absentee vote thats been counted so far - and that from a strongly Republican area. He's now ahead by 527 votes with only about 300 absentee ballots left to count. And since we have such poor voting machines a recount will have a negligible effect on the final results (as Jill Stein and Hillary Clinton disvovered).

Weidman will win. He is supported by MoveOn.org.

Personally pro-life or wants the law to be changed to outlaw abortion?

Bernie O'Hare said...

John has never advocated a reversal of Roe v. Wade.

Anonymous said...

His website has a claim he got an African American out of prison for the "crime" of helping a woman get an abortion, so I guess not.

His site also laughingly suggests on of his priorities is criminal justice reform! Could've fooled me with his seized property porn he sends out.

I'm disappointed that you didn't pick up "crybaby" Weidman's video yet.

Bernie O'Hare said...

David Weidman served his country honorably in Afghanistan to give assholes like you the right to call him a crybaby. I have the greatest respect for him and for his service, and think it is unfortunate that he allowed some political hacks to talk him into dropping out. Though I support John Morganelli, I probably could have told him not to allow himself to be pressured by these jerks.
