Some of you like the sound of the crack of a bat on a hot summer day. For others, it is the crack of shoulder pads amid the scent of decaying leaves as summer turns to autumn. For me it's the barely discernible but still sweet SWOOSH a basketball makes as the it arcs through a warm gym during the coldest days of winter.
High school basketball season has started, and the teams are on the court.
Allentown Central Catholic has already scrimmaged Scranton Prep, and will be trekking to Reading on Saturday.
First tip off is less than two weeks away.
Who will be good this year?
They all will.

And Allentown Central Catholic has what to do with Northampton County / Municipal political news?
There is a BIG void left with Allen losing its two superstars. Who will step up? Ive heard that Bethlehem Catholic is the team to watch.
As an aside, the picture made me smile in light of Alabama Coach Nick Saban's comments last week about the style jeans kids wear these days. I too will never understand buying something pre-ripped or paint splattered. But, hell, to each their own.
Good luck!
"There is a BIG void left with Allen losing its two superstars. Who will step up? Ive heard that Bethlehem Catholic is the team to watch." Beca will be good, to be sure. But there will be a lot more parity this year.
9:01, This blog is called Lehigh Valley Ramblings. You don't need to read it. i would prefer you don't.
HS sports has nothing to do with the rambling politics of the valley which is good reading. Let the newspapers or facebook take care of the HS sports. Or is this becoming a recruitment page for BC and ACC ?
Love the high school sports angle! 9:01; Are you paying a subscription or something? I too believe that Bethlehem Catholic is the team to beat. Will be routing for the Canaries as usual. The BECA Imhotep PIAA football 4A semi-final should be an interesting game. Selinsgrove really showed me something against BECA. The WR with the 4 TDs looks like a Division I gem. Can't wait for the District Finals in the PPL Center. That PM West/Emmaus - Parkland Allen double header last year was such a great event with so many great players with awesome energy in the student sections. I see Sam Iorio is starting for American and playing well.
Bernie! So beautifully written! Brings back very delightful memories. Thank you.

Way, way, WAY too much attention is paid to high school sports and not nearly enough to the other 99% of students who max excel at dance, band, theater, art, honor society, etc.
I the real world, people don’t care about CCHS or Becahi (or Parkland lol) as they have an inherent advantage to other schools.
8:17: you should wake up from your nap and do something constructive then! Start a local blog which comments on and highlights all the interesting other stuff happening in schools to promote to the public. I'd read that blog, you could list art shows, concerts and theater performance times/locations for ALL the local high schools.
Basketball is a ghetto sport, nothing more.
There are huge basketball leagues throughout the world, are they all ghetto??? Dumb thing to say and assume.
Drive by any basketball court anywhere come in the city or the suburbs and look at the clientele that is there. 98% minorities.
And your point?
9:15 pm: Attend a William Allen game and the crowd is about 50% white people, getting out of the house and enjoying some damn good local sports. Try going to the Allen game at Deiruff some time and the place is SRO and rocks with people of all races enjoying outstanding basketball. You some kind of racist or something?
