I Could Have Made $148 at Peg Ferraro's Fundraiser

Peg flirting with Scott Parsons
Peg Ferraro, easily the most popular member of Northampton County Council, hosted a fundraiser last night at Holy Family Club in Nazareth. Like Superior Court nominee Emil Giordano, Peg strives to be bipartisan, so I and several other Democrats were there. Council candidates were snubbed by GOP party boss General Lee Snover at her event at the Hotel Bethlehem. But Ferraro made sure that every GOP Council candidate who attended (Seth Vaughn was absent) had an opportunity to speak.

Unfortunately, Ron Angle has been unable to mount much of a campaign this election cycle. But he was in vintage form, and gave the best speech of bout 10,000 candidates who were there. Angle railed against the pervasive corruption that existed in a Democratic administration when he was first elected, in which pay-to-play sent one person to jail. He then pointed to the federal investigation into political corruption in Allentown, and argued that the only way to prevent it from coming here is to vote Republican. He also generously gave Executive John Brown an A- as Exec, but said he'd give him a D- as a politician.

Phillips gave a decent speech as well, noting both his independence and his work ethic.

Peg was Peg. Though she will be attacked here anonymously by partisan Democrats, those of us who know better know that though she is definitely a Republican, she has always adopted a bipartisan attitude when it comes to governing.

And she can send messages without saying a word. Earlier this month, she and other GOP Council candidates were snubbed at General Lee Snover's dinner because she is fixated on Donald Trump and is already promoting candidates like Justin Simmons to succeed Congressman Charlie Dent. She has been vicious to Dent, the most popular Republican in the Lehigh Valley

Peg responded last night by recognizing Ryan MacKenzie's mother. Mackenzie is one of several Congressional candidates, including Marty Nothstein, who has risen up against opportunistic Simmons and his ugly campaign tactics.

Judge Emil Giordano, who is usually jovial and relaxed, sounded very tired. He's a great guy, but a statewide race is obviously taking a physical toll.

The other candidates were pretty bad. Brown rambled on and on about the jail, the last thing he should be talking about in a room full of Republicans. Then he sat down to nurse a glass of red wine. Glenn Geissinger just comes off as a condescending person. One woman went on for about 15 minutes about a race next year, and spent a great deal of time patting herself on the back.

I'm unpopular in any room full of partisans, Democrat or Republican. But lately, the Republicans are really mad at me. So there were a few groans when Peg mentioned me. General Lee is really angry with me.. Especially since I mixed her up with another Lee Snover last week. She does not scare me, but her mom does. Anyway, Angle offered me $100 to walk up to Lee and plant one on her.

Another person - I won't mention his name - offered me $48 to go up and shove the Fake Rev, another one of my many fans. He was there to support Peg.

So I could have made $148, but I would have lost it all in doctor bills.

So I passed.

Like Hayden Phillips, Peg gets my vote.

(Blogger's Note: - I feel uncomfortable taking photographs at most fundraisers. Also, the lighting in there is terrible. So I will spare you my photography.)

The most partisan person on county council. Even Democratic women who once supported her now see through her phony game.

Heard your buddy Angle was bragging about somehow bringing about the indictment of your buddy Hickey. That Angle is quite a classy guy.

Peg will be the top vote getter, and your anonymous snarks won't change that. Angle did not mention Hickey by name, but his main point is that political corruption tends to follow Dems. You may not like his argument, but it is effective. That's how you win an election. You don't win by promising a $185 million jail.

And the most partisan council members are Mat Benol and Ken Kraft.

So both Angle and Ferraro are now campaigning for Brown. Good to know!

Bernie O'Hare said...

Of course they are campaigning for Brown.

Several Democrats? Seriously, I doubt that. Just who was there? I doubt there were any democrats other than maybe a family member. Smart democratic women are running this time and they plan to unseat Ferraro. They know her game.

She is shrewd, you have to give her ha. She asked you to attend knowing you would write a fawning report.

Pay to play had nothing to do with the Solomon indictment

You keep claiming Dent is the most popular politician in the area, then why has he decided not run when his poll numbers are in the 20's.

Bernie,
A kiss or even touching could get you something that will not wash off, the juice isn't all ways necessarily worth the squeeze!

Angle claims that Brown is a A- County Executive; I've lost all respect. Brown is the biggest non-transparent executive in this County's history. To virtually put a stamp of approval on a person who promotes a tax cheat, hires a spend-thrift HR Director, tries to cheat the administrative code by allowing him to try and receive unwarranted travel pay, is the sign that he has no moral background. He is a sickly partisan republican who brings forth nausea related illness to good government and should not be elected.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Excuse me, but I know plenty of good people who will be voting for Brown. You have to appeal to them, not insult them, if you want them to change their minds.

Several Gracedale supporters were there, one of whom makes contributions. A local labor leader was there. I am not naming names, especially to an anonymous coward.

Not only the most popular, but most respected. Your poll likely is limited to Tea-Party Rs in General lee's back yard.

Puh-lease.

7:14 AM - You keep claiming Dent is the most popular politician in the area, then why has he decided not run when his poll numbers are in the 20's.

I've voted for Dent regularly every 2 years. I'm assuming from the general Republican celebrations over his retirement, that we'll see a more "hard core" conservative candidate being offered by them next November.

*IF* the Democrats have any brains they'd do themselves a favor by running a moderate candidate and try to reel in/convert some of the "establishment" Republicans who no longer seem welcome in that tent.

Can a moderate democrat win a democratic primary. It seems as though only avowed Marxists need to apply.

Anonymous said...

Well I did say "*IF*"...

We need someone who represents the people, not their party. As a country we're 50/50, our elected officials should reflect that in how they govern, which I think to some extent Rep Dent did/does. I don't agree with everything he says/does, but felt like he was willing to listen to and develop any good idea or solution no matter where it came from.

What we have now is basically two morons attempting to drive a car at the same time, veering all over the road, over correcting and over steering - we're all going to end up in a ditch if we keep letting them drive...

the only moderate democrat around is charlie dent.

Anonymous said...

Correction! Dent is the most disliked man. Just look at his poll numbers.

The opportunistic and dirty campaign tactics have been done by Dent's henchmen. Remember the leaked text messages?

Are you kidding me? Ryan Mackenzie had to have his mommy there for him?

This after he had to have his Daddy stack the deck for him at the LCRC meeting on Jess Banatoi's future two weeks ago.

Ryan Mackenzie is a 35 year old bachelor, and a man child it looks like.

Come on Bernie, this guy is a joke.

Ryan Mackenzie couldn't hold Marty Northstein's jockstrap! (although, he'd like that).

Let's see, according to you, Republican candidates on County Council were upset that they did not speak to a room of County Republicans at the dinner. Everyone there knows all the candidates. Who were they going to "convert" to vote for them in that setting. Having statewide candidates that may not be known to the locals makes more sense and judging by the comments last night at Peg's event, the party seems pretty united. "General" Lee as you call her is doing a great job. Another partisan attack maybe.

Bernie O'Hare said...

General Lee is too important for these measly county races. She is busy trying to get Justin Simmons elected next year and has taken this year’s races for granted. She snubbed three Council candidates. That’s just the way it is.

The republicans are united behind their 10% tax increase!

Is it true that 2/3 of McClure’s campaign money is from outside the county? If true, where’s it coming from and is Abe Atiyeh on his donors list again?

Bernie O'Hare said...

Historically, McClure has been funded by unions and attorneys. Brown has been funded by outside interests as well. There is no way that that Brown can accurately claim where McClure is getting his $ bc the second Friday pre-election report has not been filed yet.

The truth her is that Brwon is trying to divert attention away from his plan to build a jail at Gracedale. After being caught by some intelligent Nazareth area residents, he had to backtrack and has been forced to tell you he plans to build a $185 million jail.

If Brown gave a rat's ass about campaign finance or government ethics, he would have supported the government study approved by Council. He instead vetoed it.

Marty Nothstein better keep that jock strap handy, because riding a bike (or maybe being a gym teacher) is about all he is qualified for!

Bernie O'Hare said...

Justin, are you getting nervous? You should.

Anonymous said...

Wow. 2/3. That’s remarkable. Does McClure have any support outside the unions at the government center?

Anonymous said...

Nothstein only has a high school diploma, so actually, he isn't even qualified to teach gym

Bernie O'Hare said...

Poor Justin. he's going to have to find a job.
