Cunningham Top LV Vote-Getter in Presidential Delegate Run

When not playing a gig in his band, Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham has what you might call a mild interest in politics. He received 53,406 votes as a delegate for Hillary Clinton in Tuesay’s Pennsylvania Primary. That makes him top dog. In fact, Cunningham attracted more votes from Dems in Lehigh, Northampton, Montgomery and Berks Counties than Barack Obama, who walked away with 41,686 votes in the Lehigh Valley.

“It’s an honor to be selected by the people of the Lehigh Valley to represent them in support of Senator Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention.” said Cunningham.

Rounding out the top five highest vote-getters in the 15th Congressional District were Joseph Russo with 52,071 votes, Kathy Campbell with 50,783 votes, Iris Linares with 45,519, and Miriam Huertas with 45,173. Delegates are assigned proportionally as a percentage of vote total in congressional districts. State Democratic Party officials will announce which delegates in addition to Cunningham will represent the Lehigh Valley at the National Democratic Convention, August 25-28, 2008, in Denver, Colorado.

"Cunningham Top LV Vote-Getter in Presidential Delegate Run"

Doesn't say much for the people of the valley. I'm not impressed!

tuesday was the first time in many years i didn't vote. as an independent, i could find nothing i was allowed to vote for in my district. ( there was a ballot question for whitehall) recently when i posted a piece about the vision meeting, i felt awkward because the meeting organizer had no political ties, i knew her from many years ago in the art scene, miriam huertas. i see now from your piece on cunningham, that as often the case, i was again naive about dems and politics, apparently miriam has become political in her middle years. btw, bernie, do you know, after getting to know don somewhat during the 2005 campaign, i've called him a junior ed rendell in training pants? with ed senior and little eddie of allentown, he is one of three amigo's.

Michael, is that the one with Bernies head up Donnies (wherever that fickle finger of fate is pointing).

Bernie,

Just because that is the order they finished in, does not mean the top vote getters will go to the convention. Due to the rules of the Dem Party, the first delegate needs to be a female and a Clinton delegate. (since she won the 15th) I am not sure how it goes after that, but there is a chance the top vote getter will not go to the convention. I think the next choice is a Obama delegate and needs to be male.

I am sure you can find the exact rules somewhere online. But there needs to be 3 female and 2 males. And 1 male alternate.

(I deleted my previous comment to expand on it and correct a typo)

BethDem,

You are right. I am interested in pointing out that Cunningham is quite popular in this district.

Michael,

My Cunningham pic is next to my Stoffa and Angle pic. I have no nightstand or mantel. I';m poor, remember? It's hanging on the wall with scotch tape.
