The Lehigh Valley's Other Baseball Team

Earlier this week, I told you about the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, which played their first exciting game at Coca Cola Park on sunny Sunday. But they are not the Lehigh Valley's only baseball team. The Lehigh Valley Catz are a college baseball team that plays in a NCAA summer baseball league. You can catch their home games, starting June 5th, at Upper Hackett's Park (Easton) or Lafayette College's Metzgar Fields (Forks Tp).

They will have a fund raiser lunch at Carabba's, Palmer Park Mall on April 12 at noon. For just $12, you get one of four entrees as well as a dessert and beverage.

Any other details can be obtained from owner Tom Lisinicchia at 610-462-5312.

Catz v. Pigs - who would win? If allowed to keep their aluminum bats, I say the Catz mawl the bigger (but slower) Pigs.

I have been watching the Catz play for several years now. The organization is excellent...every game is something different for the fans. The quality of baseball is very high, most of the team play for Southern colleges, where they season can last all year, along with a few local players thrown in to peak interest.

The team itself does a lot of community outreach. Players and coaches often hold clinics for local little league teams. They are a great asset to the Lehigh Valley sports scene.

Thanks Bernie for recognizing the work they do.

If it is a LV team, then why is it called Philadelphia Force? As I understand things, it is part of as six team fast pitch league. I'll check them out one noght this year.

I don't know why either they are called the Philadelpia Force, I just know that they play out of Bicentenial Park in Allentown.I've never seen them play, but a girl I went to school with played for them.

Listed on the agenda for the Lower Saucon Township Council meeting tonight under hearings and presentations is "Iron Pigs-Passing of the First Pitch Ball to Commemmorate Opening Day". Don't know what that is all about, but I guess I'll find out tonight.
