Elected Sheriff On The Agenda Again

Looks like Democrats Lamont McClure and Ken Kraft remain intent on bashing their heads against the wall in an exercise of bad government. On the agenda for tomorrow night's meeting of Northampton County Council is an ordinance that proposes making the Sheriff's Office an elected position.

What Kraft and McClure really want is a return to the days of patronage politics, in which cronyism and a culture of corruption prevails.

I've discussed this before. Several times. Council members have weighed in on the topic. McClure and Kraft have to know that, aside from those two, nobody supports this idea. They ruin their own credibility by pushing a bad idea. They also hurt their party.

Republicans on Council can be justly criticized for being all too willing to give Executive John Brown whatever he wants. But this Democratic proposal, which promotes cronyism disguised as democracy, is just another example why neither party is to be trusted.

Mark Kessler should move to Norco where he would win in a landslide representing the 3% who have had enough libtard agenda.

Funny how whenever you put up a piece explaining how evil and rotten Republicans are, you get a bazillion comments.

But, when you put up a piece explaining how evil and rotten Democrats are, you get no comments.

Very revealing as to who YOUR readership really IS, BO.

Meanwhile, you have as much credibility as a three dollar bill --- and you know it.

What are ken krafts qualifications?

Bernie O'Hare said...

His qualification is that a majority of the people in his district elected him.

12:01, yeah, it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that this blog was pasted about ten hours later, and has already been discussed to death several times. I know it's hard, but these comments exist so you can discuss the topic, not me or my readers.

A total waste of time by those two twits. Get on with the business of the county already.

Maybe the new conservative Republicans will support the will of the people. Free elections are American. I hope our real
American Republican council members think about this.

They can redeem themselves after supporting the multi-million dollar waste of Stoffa building, just to get their names on a plaque.

My only fear is that nut Kraft will run for Sheriff because he walks around like some tough guy.

We the people of the county want free elections.

An elected sheriff could offer Randy Miller an opportunity to tell Mr. Brown right where to shove it.

Well stated as both parties and the party agendas cannot be trusted.

Bernie O'Hare said...

2:14, but someone like Randy Miller has too much integrity to play that game. You'll end up with political hacks. That's what you want.

Bernie O'Hare said...

1:55, the will of the people has been expressed. They chose an appointed Sheriff. You are free to move to another county.

Just another attempt to "dumb down " government.

Anonymous said...

Based on Brown's other appointments and elected Sheriff might be a good idea.

What's your bold idea Hank_hill?

@1:55
Who are you? Do u even know Kraft?

Can't Executive Callahan do something about this?

Only a matter of time until the National Sheriffs' Association starts spending money in Northampton for this. NSA lobbies hard to keep the office elected. They can spend 2nd Amendment lobby groups kind of money in a local race. Where they just get their candidates elected to do their work.

You keep the office appointed. You wouldn't elected your police or fire chief. Sheriff should be the same way

The guy in the sheriff suit looks jus tike Jerry Seyfried.

I thought he looks more like Steve Homoki.

Sheriffs are elected in all but five counties throughout the entire United States - I guess the whole nation is messed up by doing this. An appointed Sheriff only assures that the judges of Norco will continue to run this office behind the scenes.
And political hacks - the County is already full of them.
This County needs department heads that are accountable to the public and need not be in fear of losing their jobs for going against the political agenda of the judiciary and executive.
