Why Would Climate Activists Disrupt a Bike Race?

Let me start by stressing that I am deeply concerned about global warming. I agree with those who say we should start weaning ourselves off our finite fossil fuel reserves. Studies of our local air quality are long overdue. especially since the Lehigh Valley is rated as the worst place to live for people suffering from inflammatory lung disease. On a personal level, at least during the warmer months, I try to walk, take a bus or ride my bike when I can. This also saves me money, makes me more fit and is simply more fun. But climate activists can be their own worst enemy. Locally, this happened recently when landfill expansion opponents disrupted a Lower Saucon Township Council meeting with laughtracks. Environmentalists can often be as bad as born-again Christians in they way they preach and virtue signal to others. It happened last weekend at, of all things, a bicycle race.

Once a year, UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) hosts a one-day bicycle road race. This year's2 71.1 km competition was held in Scotland.  It had to be stopped midway because climate protesters decided to glue themselves to the road and had to be removed (They do this during the Tour de France as well).

Now I can see gluing yourself to the road outside a gas station or speedway to make a point. But a bike race? Cycling is one of the best ways to minimize carbon emissions, so what's the point? Actions like these actually detract from the message.

those who say we should start weaning ourselves off fossil fuel, I oppose the proposed expansion of Bethlehem Landfill because it is destroying the side of a mountain in the process.

Why? Because they're far left lunatics; that's why. 🤪

Because they are assholes and the democrats listen to those idiots and base policy on them.

Look at the typical cycling kit Bern, lycra jersey and shorts plus foam helmet all derivatives of petrochemical. Let's go back to the days of the woolen knickers and leather helmets and natural rubber tires then cycling will be more green.

I wonder how the environmentalist arrived at the race. I'm sure they all walked barefoot, naked and avoided petrochemical paved roads.

We're the problem, people.

I agree that we need to be good stewards of the only planet we have, but these extremists are dangerous. They have declared war on energy production and many leaders in Europe and North America cater to them. They think banning our way to solar, wind, hydro, et al, will work. It won't.

Last night, thousands lost electricity in the L.V. How do you charge an E.V. when that happens? My generator started right up. So did my car.

Bicycle races represent a corruption of what cycling should be, they are an exercise in frivolity whereas true cyclists endeavor to be productive with their iron steeds whether that be commuting to work, grocery shopping, or going to church. Humanity cannot afford these spectacles of needless competition with carbon footprints that exceed many third world villages annually. How can one "joy ride" while Gaea weeps?

Probably because they need you to pay more taxes to the earth in order to save it? Do we all still really think there were enough animals/creatures buried beneath this earth to create "fossil fuels"/oil after all these generations of consumption? Also, has any "activists" seen lithium mines? Lithium mining is truly damaging to the environment but that's not what the science is teaching us right now so let's continue on this path!

John Kerry have a bicycle ?.

"those who say we should start weaning ourselves off fossil fuel, I oppose the proposed expansion of Bethlehem Landfill because it is destroying the side of a mountain in the process."

Aside from basic grammar issues, this could be your most nonsensical statement ever. Your senior center puts our dumpsters every week. Until you start eating your trash, don't lecture us.

Don't forget they all have plastic water bottles attached all over their frames.

Bernie is starting to sound like Kamala. Nonsensical word salad!

Bernie, Maybe you can convince the Mayor of Bethlehem to come out against the proposed Landfill expansion! Reynolds claims to be pro environment but doesn't speak out about a environmental disaster about to happen in his own back yard!

Because stepping in front of a nascar was less desirable

There is no need to start “weaning ourselves off of our finite fossil fuel reserves”. There is enough oil and gas to last at least another 250 years, during which time true alternatives can be developed without bankrupting the people that are supposedly being helped.

What we are doing now is a form of international suicide. More people will die from the lack of a steady supply of inexpensive fossil fuels than from “man-made climate change”.

However, that’s likely the point of those running the climate change scam since many are the same people who believe that the earth is overpopulated. They’re literally killing two birds (or people) with one stone.

Others who go along with the scam are the modern day equivalents of primitive tribesmen who would throw people into volcanoes to stop them from erupting. They deserve all the mockery and derision that society can give them.

Lighten up, Francis.

I hope gluing yourself to the road in protest catches on.

"Your senior center puts our dumpster every week." Talk about nonsensical. WTF does that even mean?

"There is enough oil and gas to last at least another 250 years, during which time true alternatives can be developed without bankrupting the people that are supposedly being helped." That's exactly what I am saying. Our fossil fuel reserves are finite, and we should gradually move away. I am looking for nuclear fusion within 20 years.

Disrupt any whitey activities. I'm comfortable with this

The Green Scam! You can’t get rid of Fossil Fuels you green idiots! But it’s ok for China to pollute the world! Guess where our coal is going! China, the country that is running all over us! God help us!

To Bernie, check out this web cite

https://environmentalprogress.org/

It is Micheal Shellenberger work. I have over several years read about two dozen books on the climate change issue. About half that number were worth the read and several are worth endorsing. For those who actually want to learn about this issue you need to watch Youtube videos by folks like Shellenberger, Gragory Wrightstone, Steve Koonin, Bjorn Lomborg and there are others of course. Understanding what is driving this issue is critical The anti-humanist environmentalist have taken over the debate; these are not good people and must be stopped.
