Trump Indicted For 2020 Election Interference

Former President Donald Trump was indicted yesterday (you can read it below) for his role in attempting to overturn the 2020 Presidential election with knowingly false claims of voter fraud. Special Counsel Jack Smith has deftly avoided charging Trump with incitement, which is highly problematic. The 45-page indictment instead charges Trump with conspiring to defraud the United States, two counts of obstructing the vote certification and a conspiracy to deprive us all of our right to vote.

Trump also faces federal charges over his willful retention of confidential government records and obstructing efforts to get them out of his ballroom,  bathroom and office. There's also state charges in Manhattan for falsifying business records to cover up hush payments made to Stormy Daniels.

On top of all this, another shoe is about to drop in Georgia, where he wanted the Secretary of State to "find" the 11,000 votes he needed to win that state.

The indictment over Trump's willful retention of confidential records id the strongest case against him. But the charges handed down yesterday are by far the most important to those of us who take a dim view of a wannabe despot's attempt to reverse a legitimate election.

He is alleged to have acted with six co-conspirators. Their names have been withheld for now, but it's clear to CNN who five of them are: Rudy Giuliani (Co-conspirator No. 1): John Eastman (Co-conspirator No. 2); Sidney Powell (Co-conspirator No. 3); Jeffrey Clark (Co-conspirator No. 4); and Kenneth Cheesebro (Co-conspirator No. 5).

100% pure bullshit!

No surprises in this. It’s what Lawfare does, twist laws into whatever meaning they choose regardless if Constitutionally sound. Several legal experts already agree this is a very weak case.

Never forget, Trump was already cleared by the Senate after one of the many Impeachment attempts. Check Paragraph 3 of the charging statement and also remember, Trump was still President at the time of his alleged violations. The Discovery Phase details of this trial will be fascinating to hear. That is, if we lowly citizens ever get to see or hear them.

Let’s get this circus started!

Trump just did this to distract from Bernie's interview about Fed Ed on WFMZ.

Is opposing politial speech now a crime ? It seems so if those in power do not like what you say. Putting a match to the first amendment.

This is getting boring. I hate Trump. I also hate this form of Biden campaigning. I'm holding my nose and voting for asshole Trump. It's not even close at this point. Were not a banana republic, despite the way our cities are being run.

The fact that this is out the day after Devon Archer testified BEHIND CLOSED DOORS is ironic.

Our government is clinging on to the last bit of control it has over this narrative and it looks silly doing it.

They are trying to lock up the leading challenger in the next election AND former president.

These are dark times for our country, but rest assured the emperor has no clothes.

The Biden admin is the very authoritarian fascists they tried to paint Trump as....Dems, start calling out these obvious hypocrisies and save some face with your fellow americans. Because this shit is crazy and you all know it.

Anonymous said...

If he proves the fraud that he talks about then that would be a defense. Why would he not do this and show the corruption? I think the answer is obvious.

Also wasn’t the reason the Senate acquitted because the criminal justice system was a better mechanism to hold the president to account?

I think POTUSs are permitted to say an election was stolen. This smacks of Third World political prosecution of an opposition candidate. It's the kind of thing our Department of State rails against in other countries on a regular basis. We are those countries. This is not good for the country. Biden is going to receive the same treatment and will be dogged until he dies. That's not good for the country, either. Both parties in our two party system are horrible. Our founders warned of this.

Another witch hunt courtesy of a left-wing rogue prosecutor and grand jury made up of DC democrat sympathizers. All these indictments are doing is solidifying Trump's base and appealing to others who resent big government persecutions. And others who believe there are two systems of justice in the country. One that ignores or buries under the carpet Democrat lawlessness while aggressively indicting Republicans.

Before all the Lehigh Valley MAGAts come on here and accuse liberals of another witch-hunt, I want to give a big shout out to all of the republicans who participated and gave testimony in these new indictments.

You read that right, every single testimony was given by a Republican.

Get fucked.

I hope he's put in prison without bail. It will ensure his election. I'd like to see him in handcuffs and also see a mugshot. It all helps get rid of Biden. Stay focused.

Anonymous said...

For those crying "Witch Hunt"...

All of these charges against Trump are a response to actions Donald Trump committed, actions that are not legal in the United States. They are not phony charges, they are not thin, flimsy or questionable, they are simply the law.

You hate Democrats we get it. The country is going down the toilet because of Democrats. We get it. Trump appears to have committed many crimes prior to being President and now we're seeing additional ones during and after his time in office.

He is a loser. Barely beat Hillary Clinton, lost the house, the senate and then the White House in 4 years. He won't win in 2024.

Dump him, stop defending him, move on to another, better candidate of your choosing.

There are no comments posted yet, but I'm sure plenty have been submitted. Let's me guess Bern what you're sifting thru-

But, but, but what about Hunter. What about Hillary's emails. Benghazi. Monica Lewinsky. The Easter Bunny. Elvis is Alive.

Or, even worse...Trump didn't do anything wrong. Trump was taking the advice of his attorneys. He simply exercised his first amendment right,, the 2020 election was stolen, mass voter fraud, witch hunt, Deep State is trying to silence Trump, Biden"s DOJ is corrupt. Jack Smith is corrupt, ad nauseam.

What's worse is the people commenting what I just theorized won't even take the time to read the indictment and you have made it easy for them by attaching it to your article.

If you hate Trump you have other choices in the primary . President Biden has nothing to do with these charges.

A Trump indictment is like an O'Hare blog post: It pops up almost every day but is generally meaningless and full of cisinformation.

Bernie O'Hare said...

I agree that this indictment will drive Republicans into Trump's arms and is politically perilous. Ignoring his criminal behavior is far worse.

Our government is attempting to make questioning the results of an election a felony. Maybe read that sentence 2-3 more times if you can’t immediately see how DANGEROUS this is to ALL of us and our families. Wake-up, America!

Bernie, now that you’ve already convicted Trump without debate, why continue the crusade? Seriously.

The first comments are all Trump defenders. Their blinders are firmly fastened. I love the Trumpers' "free speech" defense. OMG, could you imagine if Obama would have said and done what Trump did if he had lost the run for his second term? They would have called for the death penalty as punishment for treason! Reading their excuses for Trump would be hilarious if it weren't like witnessing a collective tragic case of denial and brainwashing.

I've read some of these experts on The Daily Caller. They contend his conduct is protected by the First Amendment. I believe strongly in free speech. But noo right is absolute. The First Amendment does not protect you from false reports to police, nor should it potect Trump from knowingly false statements designed to deprive me of my vote.

8:39- Read the indictment dummy, specifically paragraph three and page 2. It reads that Trump had every right to speak out and question election results. He was even allowed to lie about election results as his protected first amendment. Yes, Jack Smith says that even if Trump knowingly lied about the election results, that is not the crime that's he's being charged with.

Yes, Jack Smith acknowledges Trump's 1st amendment rights, but you don't know that and remain ignorant.

Wake up 8:39. It's getting very exhausting trying to bring you out of a cult mentality. Get Woke!

Want to talk about election interference? This indictment reeks of it on many levels. I mean, the leading candidate for next president . . . at a time when his opposing party is reeling from its own issues?

Anonymous said...

Smith is probably a shittier lawyer than you were while still permitted to practice among decent society. He tried to have a GOP governor thrown in jail during the Obama years and was rebuked by a unanimous SCOTUS. This case is weaker. It's weaker than "drinking made me defraud a client." Please.

“All I want to do is this: I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have,” Trump says, according to audio of the call. “There’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, that you’ve recalculated.” Absolute, undeniable, recorded proof that tRUMP is guilty of trying to upend our democracy. Case closed.

It seems the Trump loyalists no longer believe in... anything.
FBI? DOJ? "Weaponized!" (unless, of course, they are investigating Hunter Biden)
Courts? Judges? "Corrupt!" (unless, of course, they get a win)
Grand Juries? "Biased!" (unless, of course, they are delivering a "innocent" verdict)
Voting machines? "Rigged!" (unless, of course, they get the outcome they want)
Mail-in Votes? "Flawed!" (unless, of course, you're Donald Trump... who voted by mail)

My question is a simple one: if America is a "banana Republic" and you no longer trust anything, why are you here? And, how can I help you move out?

A concerned citizen of the Valley said...

I'm a registered Democrat whose first vote for President was for Dukakis, and all the Dems since then. I cannot stand Mr. Trump, and I feel that he has brought disrepute upon our nation by his constant false and deceptive statements. However, I feel that even his false statements are protected by our first amendment, just the same as flag burning, kneeling for the national anthem, and all of the other hot-button issues on both sides. The part that really gets me, and the thing that should end with Mr. Trump behind bars, is the fact that when the Capitol of the United States of America was attacked, our president sat on his hands. His attitude was essentially, "let's see if my henchmen and henchwomen can overthrow the will of the People." To me, his failure to act to preserve democracy and a co-equal branch of government for those six hours is unforgiveable.

Anonymous said...

Ah, but is you who attempted to deprive me of my vote by calling treasonous any attempt to question recounts and tallies performed behind papered-over windows.

Hey Republicans, just remember: Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden. After all, he sometimes spoke on the phone with his father!

Ignoring Biden's criminal enterprise is equally distressing. Our country can do better than either of these men. But you only see a problem with one of them. That's how to tell if someone is serious about making things better. You are a partisan who is not. You just want your side to win - just like the MAGA guys. You're remarkably similar.

@8:39 "Our government is attempting to make questioning the results of an election a felony. Maybe read that sentence 2-3 more times if you can’t immediately see how DANGEROUS this is to ALL of us and our families. Wake-up, America!"

Maybe re-read your own sentence... Questioning the results out loud is fine and perfectly legal - even though in most cases you will be easily proved wrong and look like an idiot.

He's not being indicted for questioning the results of the election - that you associate the charges that way is like you defending Jeffery Dahlmer's actions for just being hungry. If you don't know who he is he ate other human beings for fun...

Quit pissing your pants and defending what you absolutely know in your heart is anti-American behavior by Trump. FOX News, right wing media and loads of GOP politicians are only defending him because they've basically wagered their entire existence and relevance on Trump. You didn't - so you and your family will survive this outside of (maybe) a little embarrassment of being suckered in.

Reading all these comments whether from one delusional individual or a bunch makes me worry for our future.

The whole theme of weaponizing the DOJ is complete and utter horseshit. If that were the case, why wouldn't other Republicans be under the same amount of legal peril? Is Ron DeSantis under investigation? Nikki Haley? Tim Scott? What about Kevin McCarthy? Mitch McConnell? Jim Jordan? Its just one guy who has brought much of this upon himself.

Whats more worrying that people are still championing Trump and the GOP in general is that they no longer have any real policy, plans or goals. Its just simply, stop Democrats. They don't want to govern, they just want to oppose whatever Democrats want. At the end of the day at least a bad idea can be improved which is a starting point, versus no idea at all.

But lets pound the drum and get grandma and grandpa's Depends in a twist over Transvestite Mexican Gangs rampaging over the border looking to indoctrinate our grandchildren into thinking slavery was actually a bad idea.

If you’re ever confused about why Trump supporters have an unwavering support of this clown it’s because he represents WHITENESS. Republicans and America in general consider this land a WHITE country.

And this Trump circus is the backlash of the Obama Presidency and white people’s attempt of reclaiming their identity.

These voters care very little about politics in general but care more about reestablishing the racial hierarchy, and for most of these people, it’s whiteness.

It will always be about preserving a WHITE country. And the sooner you understand this, the more of an understanding you’ll have of your typical trump supporter.

Why is he so important to you? Why do you identify with him so much? Is it his physique? His rampant success in life? His high brow Ivy League intelligence? Or his ability to capture a moment and discuss his grievances in a way that makes your bathing suit area tingle?

Why won't you move onto Ron DeSantis or another GOP candidate that can actually win an election?

2:14 - I’ll give you answer. Knowing full well, of course, you will never admit any value in it.

America is being DESTROYED from within. The reason is, the destroyers need to wipe out this America and replace it with something supposedly better. Something only THEY can provide.

Next, political corruption is rampant in Washington. Payoffs from special interest groups, money laundering, foolish spending, and in particular, lying and deception. Both political parties are infested with such rot, and the rot is spreading because of a mostly clueless population. The ignorance of average Americans has been bolstered by major news media who censor what we see and hear, skew what we ARE given, etc.

Of all the announced candidates, DONALD TRUMP is the ONLY candidate with the experience, the courage, to begin fixing the problems the corrupt politicians and their unelected hacks have created. Donald Trump is the ONLY candidate who will say “Screw this shit, you are wrong in what you are doing and I will work to clean-up this mess YOU created for American citizens and their families.

Donald Trump cannot be bought. He already has the power, prestige and wealth his opponents covet. The man is smart, has guts, and is a proven leader who gets things done under difficult circumstances.

THERE’S your answer! Attack it all you want. Lie and call me names. I really don’t care.

Small problem with timing
At 2:13 p.m., the report notes, “rioters broke into the Capitol and flooded the building.”
"At 2:24 p.m., in his first public statement about the attack, Trump tweeted (and later deleted): “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage"--"shortly after, the crowd began chanting, “Hang Mike Pence!”
"At 3:31 p.m., Fox News anchor Sean Hannity texted Meadows, “Can he make a statement. I saw the tweet. Ask people to peacefully leave the capital
"“Almost everyone, including staff in the White House also found the President’s 2:38 p.m. and 3:13 p.m. tweets to be insufficient because they did not instruct the rioters to leave the Capitol.” And despite urging from numerous White House aides and Trump confidantes, “None of these efforts resulted in President Trump immediately issuing the message that was needed,” the committee’s report states.

According to the committee’s report, “Evidence showed that neither of these tweets had any appreciable impact on the violent rioters. Unlike the video-message tweet that did not come until 4:17 finally instructing rioters to leave, neither the 2:38 nor the 3:13 tweets made any difference.”

We all voted and our votes counted so there was no interference. At that level you have many people telling you many things. You go with what you believe which he did. Right or wrong he had a right to follow what he believed to be truth. It's the process. In the end Biden won and trump left. If we stop people from questioning things in this country we are no longer America the land of the free. Those who were violent chose to be violent that day and they are paying the price for their criminal acts. Those people do not represent republicans. But in a country where things like the Russian hoax are accepted one shouldn't wonder why other things were questioned. Plus it's our freedom to question. I did read it and although he outlines the rights he then ignores them in the rest of his historical account of the days.

The local Chamber Of Commerce was overjoyed when Trump was elected. Their local leader said as much. Is the "chamber" still going to support Trump??I bet the Clintons are having a good laugh as am I.

"If trump believed their was election fraud and he believed the vice president could, by the Constitution ,override. ...Then there was no conspiracy"
trump's beliefs are not the law. however his ego might tell him.
Some people believe the Earth is flat yet reality is different.
"We all voted and our votes counted so there was no interference.--Therefore trump lost the election and he tried to overturn a valid election which would mean all Biden votes would not count--So trump broke the law
" Those who were violent chose to be violent that day and they are paying the price for their criminal acts. Those people do not represent republicans"--so trump serenaded with the seditionists cause he is just one hell of a guy?
Maybe trump supports independent anarchists?
Which is it?
After all when an average "tourist" visits the capital wearing body armor, carrying bear spray and an American flag to beat the police officers is quite normal.
Did i mention trump tweeted for the tourist to come as it was going to be wild?
One tourist got an 18 year sentence and he gets to think about how trump used him.

For Trump and his followers, there is one big benefit for this foolish indictment actually going to trial. The anti-Trumpers could be forced to formally litigate evidence presented showing there really WAS a fixed election result created by cheating in several states,
Also proof Pence COULD have legally delayed certification of the election until further investigation of irregularities was conducted.
It’s happened before. Maybe, a new election would have been justified.

Anyone care to dispute these possibilities with evidence why they can’t happen? Let’s hear it.

"Prove me wrong with citations, cuck…"

This wasn't directed at me, but the use of this sort of obscene insult says everything we need to know about many in the MAGA movement: coarse, rude, and indicative of the intellect of a lizard.

6:00PM - As President, Trump had plenary power over handling classification of those documents. The term being used “documents with classified markings” is misleading. That case is surely no slam dunk. Start that train down yet another railroad.

If the Trumpers had such evidence, they'd have presented it long ago. Many of them, including Trump, have admitted that they know he lost the election of 2020. Even the two firms that Trump hired to find the proof told him that there wasn't any. As Giuliani admitted to the speaker of the house in Arizona, "Long on theories, short on evidence."

If Trump wants to give this a try, by all means. I'm betting he won't even have the courage to testify.

@739 some of them he could've declassified while in office and didn't, but here's a thought on the most recent indictment. Isn't the onus on the government to prove the election did not have fraud, since it is trumps argument it did? This could prove to be quite interesting theater

You clearly didn't read my post and already had comments formed .

The comment was against a republican. And thank you it was to me and disgusting. Imagine all the people on this blog bashing everyone while calling them vile names. Really helps to get their point across. And shows their lack of decency while claiming to be superior. I do appreciate someone calling them on it besides me. Thanks

It wasn't written by a republican. It was against republicans .So not maga but a sad individual that thinks saying disgusting things matters. I still don't get why those comments are posted. That person looses any credibility by being inappropriate as do all that use foul language and attacks

I published the comment bc the word "cuck" is neither disgusting nor vile. It is an insult, but I wouldn't get too worked up about it. Look it up. I did delete one comment that is a big No - No for me. I will tolerate no comments suggesting violence.

Bernie, there’s a lot to be said about your audience when the word “cuck” is labeled as offensive, but the alleged criminal actions of a former sitting president are downplayed, and in some cases, being defended by these dimwits.

Thanx, I read this indictment, which all should! Facts do matter! Any of us in this Great Country are considered innocent until proven Guilty! But you or I, or Trump are not allowed to change our Constitution, if the result isn’t what he wanted! My vote has always been important, and for Trump, and some lawyers and some Politicians to pull in fake electors is what is called illegal!
Trump supporters may not want to believe he did illegal things, and doesn’t matter at this point! The jurists will decide in this upcoming trial! He shouldn’t be pardoned if found guilty! Justice in our country needs to be fair to all of us! The trail needs to be televised, to show the American public the facts of the case!
Democracy will rule!

The people who think Trump is going to jail are the same people with 5 boosters. Fact.

Hey 5:00 You lost me at APnews (the associated press) they fell for a pee pee tape and still think Trump colludes with Russia. Heck they probably still think Michael Cohen went to Prague. Fake news outlet. NPR might be more reputable

So DOJ will bring in election officials from the seven or so states in question and they'll say that there was no significant fraud. They'll also bring in Trump's pre-election admission that he was going to claim fraud and the admissions of many of his people that they didn't believe there was fraud and told him so. For starters, just read the indictment.

No problem.

You weren't criticized for publishing the comment, but I believe it IS, in your words, both "disgusting and vile." I already knew that it was short for "cuckold" (meant to denigrate a man because other men are having sex with his wife), thank you, so your "look it up" suggestion is rather condescending. I believe most people will agree with me on this question, and we all can get as "worked up" about it as we may.

Its interesting to think that the impeachment over asking about Biden's corruption was a cover for the true crime. Not saying it was, just interesting to consider that as a theory. And if that proves to be true, does the same "cover" apply to these indictments over what seems to be activities that have gone on for years with other politicians...
There's a definite comparison between the "documents" case and Biden. Now I admit, Biden likely didn't know they were there, but that doesn't relieve him of the responsibility.
How about election interference? Didn't Hillary and the DNC interfere and collude with the media to push the Russia hoax? Leak false information to the salivating media which proved to be untrue. How is that really different?
Add the social media giants who worked with the DNC and Biden to prevent REAL Hunter Biden information from being reported.
And now you want the US public to believe that these indictments are coincidentally occurring immediately after damning evidence goes public against the BIDEN crime family or US credit gets downgraded?
Hogwash.

10:02,I suggested you look it up, not to be condescending, but because it has more than one meaning. It means either that your wife is unfaithful or that you are weak. It is an ancient insult, and has been used for centuries. Shakespeare used it. "That cuckold lives in bliss." As insults go, that is minor. Settle down.

7:23- I have 4 Covid vaccines and I despise Donald Trump. I also *pray* that he goes to prison, as he deserves too.

Last night thpugh, while watching the news, my son 10yo son asked me as he passed by, "Will Trump go to jail?".

I replied, "No way. He'll never go to jail". He asked, "Why not?". I explained that Trump will either strike a deal or if convicted, will be pardoned by Joe Biden. Yeah, laugh all you want, but politicians (especially Presidents) protect each other.

Also, Biden prides himself in trying to bring both sides of the aisle together (yeah, laugh more). He may old, but he's "old school".

I'm quite relaxed, thank you. I have three dictionaries on my shelf, and they all give only the definition that I have indicated. When I Google "cuckold definition," it's the same. Also several others. Only an online SLANG dictionary at all agrees with you, but also agrees with me as well as indicates that the term also is used "to insult Republicans who are too mainstream."

YOU need to calm down. You're already wrong several times a day, so this is just one more.
