Four Northampton County municipalities (Bangor, Lower Mount Bethel Tp, Washington Tp and Plainfield Tp) have enacted disaster declarations as a result of Sunday's flash flooding. According to county emergency management, 10 municipalities in total have reported damage.

County of Northampton (bridges)
East Bangor Borough (roadways)
Forks Township (infrastructure, roadways)
Lower Mount Bethel Township (roadways)
Palmer Township
Plainfield Township (infrastructure, roadways)
Stockertown Borough (recreational trail/park)
Tatamy Borough (municipal park)
Washington Township (infrastructure, roadways)
Residents and some local businesses are also reporting damages. Emergency Management Services strongly encourages them to work with their municipal officials to determine the damages. "If you have experienced damages and are unable to make contact with your municipal officials, please contact Northampton County Emergency Management Services at 610-746-3194 x3228. This will ensure that the County sends detailed damage reports to both PEMA and FEMA to receive funding for those impacted."
A Crisis Clean-Up Hotline has also been established to connect those affected with information and possible assistance: 844-965-1386. The Crisis Clean-Up Hotline is not affiliated with any local, county, state, or federal agency."

They call it a 100-year storm. The problem is we have them every few years, AND we have very strong storms a bit less severe yet still with surges and flooding more frequently. How exactly we are going to cope on a long term basis is yet to be seen. There was some very expensive damage - millions of dollars - done in each of some of the communities listed.
Palmer Township government itself should not receive any government financial assistance. They have taken money in the past yet gate off Penn Pump Park declaring that only township residents can use it. Palmers past assistance came from ALL taxpayers.
How about the money from the past expenses gets used. Or literally any other stanche of wasted taxpayer dollars. Make the gov take it back. Instead, we have phony “report with PEMA or FEMA” as if that is a solution. That would be the last in line, would it not, to pay?
