Government Should Never Close Doors During Emergency

Our fearless leaders in Harrisburg, Washington and even Easton have decided to shutter their doors from the dirty masses. Our betters are afraid that if they have to deal with us, they might get infected by our cooties. While I understand the reasoning behind closing some schools, a decision to close government offices during a national emergency sends exactly the wrong message. Our elected leaders forget they exist to serve the public. They are unable to do that if they are not there. They will continue to be paid, while those of us working in a gig economy get nothing,

There is no question, panic reactions to this situation are INFECTIOUS as well. Guess that’s human nature. To a great extent our commercial news media outlets are helping to fuel this hysteria. For example, over the past week the Morning Call reported the Lehigh Valley is now up to 12 Coronavirus cases. TODAY’S front page headline reads 1st CASE HITS VALLEY. So, how helpful was the Morning Call leading up to today ?

I urge everyone to reject their local commercial new outlets. There’s a good chance they are playing you for political reasons. Rely only on CDC’S website. Even people posting on this Blog are putting out junk that is simply untrue.

When the going gets tough, our government runs and hides. If they're leading by example, that example is panic. Nice job.

8:52, If I see something about Covid-19 that I know to be untrue or outright disinformation, I will delete or call attention to it. I agree that CDC, WHO and Pa. Dep't of Health should be the main sources of information. Everything else, including me, should be read with caution. ,

Government offices should not be closed. Easton's closing is utter nonsense. This virus is going to be here awhile yet. I bet the workers are not staying home after their "work day.". Cut me a break. Do the same thing the rest of the non government workers are doing. Practice social distancing and good hygiene. Avoid large groups. We have many folks living with transplants and face this year round and have to use common sense in their contacts with the world. I always carry my own pen especially at a physician's office.

Friday the thirteenth full moon stay away from the local Wal-Mart. One could be infected and housed at the Wal-Mart super complex and have enough toilet paper to last this pandemic out.

Bernie -

Your 9:34 reply is appreciated. Now, here's some direct and TRUTHFUL information your readers will probably NOT see on most major networks.

I just watched a LIVE interview on Fox Business Channel from Madrid, Spain. A medical doctor (Dr. Yale Tung Chen) who is now at home WITH THE CORONOVIRUS in his body, was asked what it is like. Of course, he can only describe his personal situation.

He said his experience is more mild the an average, seasonal flu. He has mild headache and is more tired than usual. Asked what medication he was prescribed, he answered NONE. He takes Tylenol and says any over-the-counter cold medicine should work.

He worked directly with other staff treating Coronovirus patients in his hospital and thinks he probably got it from a co-worker there.

Note: He's age 35 with no underlying chronic heath condition.

Well, people who put their trust in government are always looking to be disappointed. I think good reliable information has been put out by those in the response team. This part of the government has been ok, despite the criticism. The media is without a doubt, encouraging panic, Is to boost ratings? Is it political motivation?. Likely some of each. People must take the actions for themselves and their family. the info is good, that is all we have. Everyone has to do the best they can. This will peak and then subside. Still it is likely many more are going to die from the flu than this.

Sue, many cases of COVID-19 will be mild. But for some, it will be very bad. But even those with mild cases can spread it.

Geeze oh whiz. What the hell is happening?

Maybe the nurses and for that matter the doctors, police, and emergency services should also stay home.

Look...say a prayer and put your pants on, lets roll.

..."whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

The hope of the world is closed.

Will they still be flying the American flag above the empty buildings? Or the white sheet?

For those disgusted with Donald Trump, if these shits aren't standing their post by Monday, you can be disgusted with the whole lot.

Well, before this I always could find toilet paper...

Saw an interesting progression from self-preservation toilet paper fights to people across social media asking to be contacted by the elderly and/or providing grocery and medication shopping for those rightly afraid to travel in crowds. I have a list for three relatives in their 80s and 90s. I'm heading out after work. I think most don't rely on the government or expect it to be around for a while when these things happen. I think that's encouraging. I also think the spirit of those who come together is reassuring. I hate nobody, but don't like anyone, and will still do whatever is possible to help you and them in this time of need.

It’s true that most don’t rely on the government for toilet paper.

^2:35PM^ Amen brother, good to see others still, calm, and standing arrow straight at their post.

It's not like closing the schools, they are children for which no chances should be taken. Nor is in like protecting the elderly.

These are suppose to be the adults in charge.

I would rather die today in truth from coronavirus the person I am, than live 100 years being like these ignorant cowards. You got two days...grow a pair.

I hate to be a spoiler, but you die in the end, and eventually the whole thing spins into the sun.

Yes, in a quarantine situation, we should have access to the government. And we should go on-line, behind a monitor in our mom's basement and complain about it.
Get real.

What do bureaucrats do best. Make sure that they do not have to make a decision, all in the fear that they may get it wrong. so the best thing is to make no decisions, unless there is written plan. Most could not think themselves out of a paper bag.

Anonymous said...

Dont ever believe that most bureaucrats are public servants. You are their servant.

"And we should go on-line, behind a monitor in our mom's basement "

Actually, that's now what we are being instructed to do...follow the leaders.

We have so many wise ones here whose wisdom consists pretty much entirely of moaning about the government. You get the feeling that they're Ben Franklin, only without the intellect.

Looks like BO will be locked out of his Council stalking in the courtrooms in the County..due to courtroom shutdown to public ...boo hoo

Hate to break this to you, but NorCo offices remain open. Learn how to read sometime.

Mayor Panto had a better chance of getting disease when he let those illegals into a city council meeting to beg for drivers licenses.

The Britt's have decided to deal with the "boomer remover" with "herd immunity" they don't need no stinking test.

Anonymous said...

I agree 100% with you on this one.

Anonymous said...

Easton does not make sense. Most offices are locked and public access is limited. Where you deal with employees there are glass partitions between you and the employee. Does this mean parking enforcement stops because there is no place to pay a ticket.?

Anonymous said...

Parking tickets will be enforced under all conditions. It is the mothers milk of the bureaucracy.
