My Election Takeaways

As many of you know, I am a judge of elections in Northampton County. It's a long day that starts at 6 am, and ends around 9 pm when results are finally delivered.  I always arrive tired. I worry so much about oversleeping that I usually get none at all. Then I nod off at the polling place, especially in low-turnout affairs like yesterday, in which each second lasts an hour. I still would like to share these observations.

1. Richard Huntington Pepper, Esq. is an asshole. - Many years ago, Pepper and I were pirates on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. We sailed a 36' long Southern Cross, equipped with a fog horn that can blow your eardrums out. On one voyage, I blew Pepper's eardrums, brains and just about everything else out by blasting that horn while he was sleeping. Yesterday, he got revenge. I had taken a break and went to my car for a quick 20 winks. He waited until I nodded off and then bounded my car door. This would give anyone my age a heart attack, but I have no heart.

2. It was DiLuzio's race to lose, and she did. - When Nuria DiLuzio first announced her candidacy for DA, it appeared that she would be unbeatable. Bethlehem Dems got behind her, including Mayor Bob Donchez. She also picked up some important union endorsements. Then the shoes began to drop. I reported she had been a long-time Republican. Then I told you about a Trump-Pence sign, posted on her door. She claimed it was only there for one or two days. Then a second picture of the sign appeared, taken at a different time of year. She claimed to have an ethics opinion concluding that there is no conflict with her husband as Bethlehem's chief of police. I obtained a copy of that opinion, and it concludes there is a conflict. Her campaign manager dumped her/. Unions walked away. Last night,Northampton County voters delivered a final rebuke..They picked professional prosecutor Terry Houck over her by a  69.83% margin.

3. Provisional Ballots rule. - Two women who claim to be Democrats but are registered as Republicans were able to vote provisionally

4. Morganelli beat Morganelli. - Since he had no opposition, he will be a judge. Governor Tom Wolf may very well appoint him now.

5. Numerous voters complained about the scant information. - They pointed out that newspapers provided very little detail about candidates. I will try my best to remedy that problem in the Fall.

Vote Republican this November. Let's make our county great again!

When was that? When ignorance, racism and misogyny reigned supreme? Count on all those Republican spineless Senators to do your asshole’s bidding.

No surprise. Sal won with 90% of the vote. Also no surprise that in the days leading up to the election he was moaning about his "signs" disappearing and people saying "mean" things about him. Wah!!

A classy guy would have realized that a young activist was punching above her weight class in this race and would have had the common decency to just be quiet. Not ole Salle, he can't help himself. His sense of entitlement and ego won't allow even a modicum of self-restraint or class.

Yea Easton!

The Callahan clone lost in Bethlehem.

But Reynolds prevailed, so not really a victory.

McClure's attempt at King making(or Queen making) did not go well.

all politicians have serious flaws that will not go away our system is in trouble it breeds this type of egotistical type of person

Not sure what unions backed Diluzio? NEVER had any police supported unions. From the start! And no one but you care what Donchez wants. Maybe you should have read the comments blasting her. Her and the sidekick had their true colors exposed over the last half, plus year.

Ritter may have lost, but Van Wirt's hand-picked candidate got destroyed by Grace. You think Grace will forget that Van Wirt and Negron supported Carpenter? Things will stay the same in Bethlehem. Van Wirt and Negron will be by themselves on most issues.

12:54am the new slogan is Keep America Great, if you want to pander for the POTUS at least get it RIGHT!

@ 4:44 - People are tired of McClure/Dertinger's treatment, along with the people he appointed. It is all backfiring on them, as it should! Diluzio's loss is a great example of the backfiring. She deserves it. It reflects that people are done with her horrible treatment of them. Very glad she is not going to be DA. She doesn't deserve the position nor any other. Payback is a B just like her.

Love that DiLuzio tanked, especially with her narcissistic attitude that she was an automatic shoo-in. No doubt, Northampton County dodged a bullet. Watching her implode has been amusing and seeing the real Nuria exposed was simply heartwarming. Not to mention observing her “bff’s” quickly turn their backs on her and run off was priceless.
What goes around comes around!
And, no unions ever backed her.
The extremely minimal “support” at the BPD was the DiLuzio Minion Clan. All of which are self-serving as they are constantly looking to ride coattails into promotions and new jobs.

Willy R. is a classic hack.
God save us.

Another election season with candidates and their supporters more focused on personal attacks than on visions for what they'll do in office, but I suppose everything turned ok.

Now we can all go back to wondering why more people don't run for office.

Why is it the media's responsibility to educate people on the candidates? It is incumbent on the voters to do their own research. Any media information would be biased anyway!

The press does have an obligation in a democracy to inform the electorate. It is so busy covering every time that Trump farts that it has fallen short on informing the electorate about locals.

These were super voters. Many of them did make an effort. They appreciated the voter guide from LWV, but even that is incomplete.

Dear Captain O'Hare,

Revenge is best served cold, very cold.

Bethlehem will be OK. They still have enough votes of common sense to keep moving the city along and in the right direction. Van Wirt will now have a better established record for the next election. Lets see how she votes on critical issues. The general public needs to be kept abreast of her issues.

No coverage of Allentown or Lehigh County?

The most interesting stuff took place there.

Anonymous said...

Allentown is in trouble 1 they ruined the schools --no leadership now the same will do the city in

Bernie O'Hare said...

Allentown and Lehigh County are very interesting, but I am only one person.

In light of what I heard yesterday, I plan to expand elections coverage for November, perhaps even in print form.

This is the slogan we ought to be concerned about.

Allentown is circling the drain.
It couldn’t be more obvious.

Must be the subliminal sent to you through the new TV channels. We all know that many suffer from Trump syndrome that has become a insurable peril under democrat's insurers.
Back to rolling on the floor frothing from the mouth in your institution! Just shits and giggles like watching those that visit the little gloryhole gatherers tent at the circus while chillaxing in observance!

National primaries with Trump by a landslide with PA turning RED?

Anonymous said...

Nice to see the political inbreeding in Bethlehem fail once in a while. Poor NBB backed a loser. Only shame is Reynolds (who thinks he's heir apparent to the throne) got back in.

Anonymous said...

Interesting how the Da Vinci cancellation wasn't announced until AFTER the election. SO much for Sal being "transparent". I cannot believe so many fell for Sal's bullshit.

Heard at the polls yesterday that Joe Kelly, a Boscola staffer, will run for mayor next year. Reynolds may be on the outside looking in.

Bernie ,I can best that about King Richard . We were in a WW2 Halftrack on streets of Philadelphia. It was getting dark ,we made a wrong turn an suddenly we were in an area with burned out cars and someplace we might have our heads handed to us. Somebody gets on the mick as says “were here to liberate you.”.Were are in Army uniforms of old -except me ,with a 50 cal machinegun and a 30 cal rear starboard. . This beats your adventure with the man . I was driving.

Outstanding job Bernie covering the Northampton County District Attorney's race in particular. If it wasn't for the insight and wake up call you provided only God knows what would have happened. Both local papers were clearly asleep at the switch. One may even been pro-Nuria, as they continued to reference that there two consulting experts said her conflict would not disqualify her. Considering one of those opining was the ubiquitous ethics scholar Bob Graci, that has to be taken with a grain of salt (he was the counsel for the Judicial Conduct Board who, when initially clearing his buddy , Justice Mike Eakin, failed to disclose he had been his lawyer and general counsel to his election campaign). Again outstanding citizen journalism!

Interesting that Reynolds appears vulnerable by barely outpolling Van Wirt who was leading him late. Ritter defeat was stunning demonstrating that Callahan has no following & pissed off Colon who was the potential victim of Callahan backed Ritter campaign.

Dana Grubb will be next Mayor!!

Thirty Five MILLION on the Russian collusion dillusion by the Democrate Clinton Criminal organization that is hell bent on the destruction of this Great Nation. That monies would have done many USA citizens that live in rentable blight a hell of a lot good, and that would be the ones imported for voting purposes only.

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:12...Dana Grubb will never be mayor. The guy was fired for getting in a fistfight in city hall. Can you say lacks the temperament?

Colon is upset with Paige. It was actually she who potentially victimized Colon by running for a 4-year term, rather than try to finish the term for which she was appointed. Calling her an incumbent was laughable. Carol ran for the vacant Martell seat.

Reynolds was hurt by low turnout.

Anonymous said...

Reynolds was hurt by his ties to NBB. Just another puppet of one of the worst administrations to ever occupy city hall. Lies and nepotism are right at home here. Screw the employees and take care of their own.

Mueller’s investigation: $6,700,000

Benghazi "investigations": $7,000,000;

Trump’s golfing trips: $83,000,000;

New debt from Republican tax bill: $1,500,000,000,000."

I'm wondering if Tim Ramos can make a run at Ray O'Connell in the Fall. Several things would need to happen including really low turnout, Ramos getting a share of the Latino vote (Latinos typically are more loyal to the Democratic Party than to Hispanics running as Republicans) and a well organized/well funded effort by Ramos to Democrats on the property tax increase and O'Connell's competency and ability to lead and/or affect positive change on issues such as crime and property tax increases.

Yea. O’Hare won’t cover Allentown or Lehigh. Nobody there he can lie about and spread his venom on. He’s only one piece of shit that can only cover one shithole at a time.

DiLuzio lost because of her support of Trump. Let this be a warning. She got Morganelli'd.
