NorCo To Break Ground on $10.6 Million Forensic Center

Northampton County is expected to begin construction of a $10.6 million forensic center in June. It will be located on the Gracedale campus, near the County's 911 Center.

Believe it or not, Coroner Zach Lysek has no morgue and operates out of a small office at Louise Moore Park. Though a forensic center has been discussed for decades, nothing has happened until now. In addition to providing storage of the deceased, the center will be also include autopsy stations and instruments that assist in determining the cause and manner of death.

The county's population is expected to increase 23% by 2030. Nearly 40% of the population will be 50 or older. A forensic center will enable the county to provide a place for pathologists and police investigators, as well as temporary storage.

Should the county consider a real medical examiner doctor for the new center or stick with a coroner?

Regionalization be damned. This is Lamont's Sphinx. He'll be examined and entombed there and they'll name the place after him. He'll be buried with his gold because he'll figure out a way to take it with him. Now accepting abused Gracedale patients! Your lives are secondary. But your autopsies will be performed in splendid surroundings!

Anyone complaining about a new forensics center has never saw the embarrassment they work out of now. Well over do

Lehigh County already has a new morgue. The regionalization ship already sailed.

Ha ha ha. That's a stiff one. Lamont's Sphinx. How about the tomb of the unknown Buddha for his chubby little buddy Count Barrone.

Perfect timing! When all the 911 staff are dead from the higher-ups saddling them with a new computer system that doesn't work right and then rushing the Bethlehem city merger prematurely without proper staffing and the new computers not right, you can just drag all the dead bodies next door to the Forensics Center. Brilliant!!

Why did it have to be 10 million dollars ? We’re talking dead people ,so people die ,that it ! If the facility had a body doner, and could get the parts out to a surgical team a allow an other kidneys or heart on time,
Then, I wouldn’t say the expense is beyond any deminshing return

And McClure watches old folks abused and dying at Gracedale

How about someone qualified like a doctor instead of the grocery boy

I personally have been at Gracedale . I have been checking on Veterans there since the issues have come up on Bernie s blog.I have observed, proper care and humanity of the employees there. I see about 35 vets on my time in there on diffferant days . The food is great as I buy lunch occctionally ,and have eaten lunch with Veteran and his spouse. The staff ,as I observed has been wonderful. So don’t think otherwise. The staff has a relationship with each person and the “ standard of care “ is just fine as I observed. I’m a former Firefighter and EMT .

The 911 center has been a disgrace for years. How many 911 personnel got their jobs because "they knew somebody".The 911 center is run on the "buddy system".

There are no abuses at Gracedale. The staff treats patients better that you most people get at home, I say ,the staff are wonderful.,caring and understanding of needs.

6:31 - 911 dispatchers may have gotten jobs like that in the past but its different now. My brother tried to get in there and there is a computer test that must be taken after you apply. It is administered at the court house, not at the 911 building, and if you don't pass, you don't get an interview.

Anon 8:07 not exactly true. I know people who scored very high, at the top. Got an interview. Guess what, guys who bombed the test got hired. Of course they were volunteer firemen friends of the management. Same people in charge, particularly the very heavy guy. They still pull the same old insider bullshot., No one at the county will look into it despite complaints. Sad!

The whole county runs on a buddy system and yet northamptoncounty prison doesnt have a contract yet this is just disgusting

That's ok. That's what mandatory overtime is for. If someone drops dead, they move to the bottom of the list.
