Ken Kraft Seeks Re-Election to NorCo Council

From his Vote Ken Kraft Facebook Page: "I am announcing that I am running for Re-election for the District 1 Representative on Northampton County Council. Petitions will be going out in the new year, so if anybody who lives in District one (Bethlehem, Hanover Township, Hellertown & Freemansburg) and is a registered Democratic voter that would like to circulate for me please send me a Private Message."

Kraft's seat is widely regarded as a safe seat for Democrats, given Bethlehem's heavily Democratic population.

He will have to fend off Gregory.

I honestly don't think Gregory will be out in time. But he has written to Angle and suggested they run as a team.he also won't be doing any radio shows. WGPA has sued him and Mezzacappa.

i know a Bethlehem boy who plans on running......

Can you name this boy or is it a state secret?

Cook Race Rating: Solid D

Solid: These races are not considered competitive and are not likely to become closely contested.

I'd agree that the problems are in the other districts. There is going to have to be a strong ground game.brown's first year might encourage some Rs to vote D.

The Bethlehem Boy would be running against Kraft, not much chance in beating him

Both Lamont's district and Parsons could be in play.would be interesting to see if Cusick will run against Lamont.

The R's will field a candidate in every race, They would be stupid not to. You never know. Also D turnout in Bethlehem in Nov. will be nil.

Also Werner should have an opponent. He barely beat Dowd first time around.

Anonymous said...

Werner should be unopposed in the primary and although there are some good R candidates in that district, mainly in the townships, he should win reelection handily.

Anonymous said...

Not really. Dowd beat him everywhere but Easton. Panto ran a massive scorched earth race against Krill producing November turnout in Easton. If that doesn't happen, Werner could go down.

Despite Brown doing a great job making McC look good, he has always been a weak candidate in the past. Barely beat Schwartz in 2007 despite outspending him something like $14k to $500. He won a narrow race in 2011 against largely unknown Connolly. I know I got his fliers near daily when he ran/lost for Exec, so he now has county-wide name recognition, but... Whether Cusick, or someone else, McC is still vulnerable if the GOP finds someone who actually campaigns. I live in McC's community and I've never seen him in person all of these years. He swims with the inner circle. If the R's get someone with boots on the ground, and some financial backing, I suspect McC will need to spend a lot of money again seeking re-election....hey, didn't Atiyeh put him on one of his billboards for Exec against Callahan? There's a start for a donation.

Boots on the ground...last Exec race Vaughn, Brown, and Phillips all knocked on my door (yes, we have supervoters of both parties here, hence R's knocking, and McC's mere fliers...I get to see how both sides seek our votes).

4:59. Yes they knocked on your door and look what you got.

Ovem Lupo Commitere said...

I didn't say I voted for all of them (only 1), but neither did I vote for the daily junk mail flier...

....but who consistently wins in NorCo? Those who hang out with the insiders at Blue and the Apollo, and rubbing elbows with the union leaders to make you feel some common man connection?? Look at the County election results the past decade. "Look what you got"?? If you're not happy the Dems lost an election they thought they had in the bag, then do something different than the same losing ways!

So I am sure if you are a super voter R, why would a Dem knock on your door? Please don't say I would vote for them. Super voter Republicans vote for Republicans or not at all. The polls are pretty clear in that regards.

Anonymous said...

ASlso I swa the Dem's out knocking on dooirs and campaigning as much as the R's. The Dem's didn't come out to vote and the Republicans did. Republicans vote Republican and Democrats swing. They sure did in Bethlehem.
No real secret here. It is just the way it is now. Republicans, if they are smart, should fare well in Northampton County for years to come.

My only hope is he starts thinking more for him self instead of continuing as a lap dog for Mc Clure.

Kraft could be taken. He didn't beat Seth Vaughn by very much four years ago.

I still hear that Jim Gregory claims if he gest out in time he will run for the District one seat.

Anonymous said...

Not true, it was a race with two unknowns with zero name recognition for either. Kraft won by about 8% of the vote. That is not a small margin considering how terrible the turnout is.

The D's will take a beating tin this election. Ron Angle will win as Controller. (Brown will pay a price for this win) The three district seats (other than Bethlehem) will go republican. The R's have figured it out. If you don't put up R candidates in Bethlehem and Easton, the D's will not come out to vote in the two cities. It's that simple. You can put up God as a D and he will lose because the D's do not vote unless they have General Election opponents. Get used to it.

Angle lost the most Republican performing Council district. He cannot win a county wide general election, but the campaign would be entertaining.

I would not be so sure about Ron losing County-wide. Lots of people I know ask about him, including a lot of workers.

Anonymous said...

Ron could easily win a countywide election, but the question is, does he really want to ?

Angle has more baggage than an Italian Countess. His opponent could write a novel about this missteps. If he runs he will lose and he will also help bring out Democrats who will vote in large numbers to keep him out of county government.

3pm. I completely disagree with your statement. Name recognition is all that counts in NORCO

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:53, So did Reibman and Seyfried. The problem is people know him and don't want him in office. Those that don't know him will get a wealth of information about him,. It is just the way it is. He can run and Barron will thank God for it.

Have to be joking that any worker would vote for any of the current council members! They all voted for the budget. The budget crushed the county worker that had no union contract and set up ones that do have unions to be in store for paying just the same regarding insurance. I don't care if you are democrat or republican you will not receive my vote.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Actually, the vote on the budget was 5-4, and the Council members up for election voted No. So far as I know, only one union of eleven is exempt from Brown's unilateral change in health care. If you are a county worker, you need to stick with other county workers, union and nonunion, instead of being selfish.

The biggest laugh is Ken Kraft voted no for the one mill tax increase. He claims he would have voted for a two and a half mill increase. What a crock. Do these guys even listen to themselves.
