Because I was at Becahi's commencement ceremony on Thursday night, I missed a Northampton County Council meeting. But thanks to the online video, I was able to see County Council commend the Department of Corrections Honor Guard. "Your dedication to public service is something we wanted to recognize," stated Council President John Cusick.
Director of Corrections Arnie Matos is "extremely proud" of this group of County employees who volunteer their time. The cost of their equipment is split between the jail and the Corrections Officers Union. The M1Garand rifles were acquired from the US Army Civilian Marksmanship Program, which awards honor guards these rifles to qualified law enforcement and veterans' groups. The bagpiper uses his own purchased bagpipes for the group.
Believe it or not, most public employees are just like these folks, except they can't play the bagpipes.
