The Real-Time Crime Index Shows Crime Is Down ..

FBI statistics shows crime going down, but is it really? That has been the subject of vigorous debates by talking heads and in the Presidential and Congressional races. For that reason, a group of analysts have come up with the Real-Time Crime Index, which tracks data from 350 law enforcement agencies, including the nation's top 25 cities. Nationwide, it supports the contention that both violent and property crime is down. This also seems to be the case in Lehigh Valley communities and even Philly.

Let's look at Allentown. In the first 6 months of 2023, there were 210 violent crimes. Over the same period it's 202, a slight drop. There were 1,362 property crimes during the first six months of 2023. This year, there were 1,137, a 16.5% drop. For some reason, rapes have nearly doubled, but murders dropped from 12 to 2.

In Philly, there's been a 35.7% drop in murder, 12.3% decrease in violent crime and an 11.9% dip ion property crime.
