US Experiences Its 129th Mass Shooting of 2023

Over the weekend, I spoke to a Jewish friend about the rise in anti-Semitism, especially at schools. He told me Jews feel safe at Christian schools. But is anywhere safe? The U.S. just experienced its 129th mass shooting of 2023 (seven dead, including assailant) at a private Christian school in Nashville. The killer carried three guns, two of them assault-like rifles.

Like a broken record, President Joe Biden will call on Congress to ban assault-style rifles. Our betters at Capitol Hill will wring their hands between calls to contributors to proclaim that what happened is just tragic. Then they will do nothing until the 130th mass shooting of 2023.

We love our cars and we love our guns.

Vroom, vroom, bang, bang!

Of course the last 8 years of the politics of division has ripple effects that are not, or then again maybe hoped for. Just more division. Things will not improve here, until this strategy of division is stopped. I don't see an end on the horizon.

Yeah, sorry but I don't think guns are the problem here.

It's mental health.

If society is unwilling to state the obvious and give this woman the help she needs for believing she's a man, how do we expect her to behave rationally in other areas?

You can't support people detaching themselves from reality in one area, and not expect it to carry over elsewhere in their lives.

The folly of the woke, liberal agenda let this woman down, and it cost six innocent lives yesterday.

Will we learn anything from it? Not a chance.

This was a confused, mentally sick transvestite. Possibly on some sort of hormonal medication or psychotropic drugs. My guess is, she was lashing out against very bad experiences years before when she was a student at that school. We can never know for certain what drove her to do this. I really don’t blame the gun. If not that gun, then a pistol. Or, maybe, a large knife, a box cutter, a bomb, a building fire, an acid spray.

And how many comments here will say, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people".
Except that there is research from other countries that banning types of guns and having stricter gun laws decreases mass shootings and violence. This country is so backwards. The USA is a young country that should be progressive. Why do these people want more guns, less books, less rights for women and minorities, etc??? It's so old and ugly.

Anonymous said...

With a helpful nudge to advance the narrative, Nashville authorities have been describing the handguns as " AR-15 assault-style handguns", in broadcast press briefings. How enl9ightening.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Yeah, guns are cool and can't possibly be the problem.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep if they banned the rifles tomorrow but it won’t solve the problem. We lost way more people to drug overdoses than guns last year. Our border is wide open, until it’s secure you can’t ban anything in this country. They traffic drugs, humans, guns, whatever will make money.

This country is circling the drain. No leadership. No patriotism anymore. It used to be ask what you can do for your country, now it’s what can my country give me for free.

With 20 million estimated AR15 style firearms in existence, not sure how a ban will actually affect things. Back in early 90s, there was on a handful of companies making the AR15 rifle, which made it easier to ban in some shape. Now with a laundry list of companies making black rifles for nearly 20 years since the ban was not renewed, the actual effectiveness would be moot. Coupled with nearly 150 millon magazines over 10rds, not sure what the actual effectiveness will be.

Remember, killing people is already illegal. That law has been on the books our entire lives. We ALL know about this law, but for some reason people keep killing others. They always find a way to break this law. If one ‘tool’ is not available, they’ll find another.

Anonymous said...

The reason the sale of these weapons has exploded, is from the politics of division , the disregard for the law and the rational that we need to prosecute less people, this increases the fear of the law abiding that they better plan to defend themselves and their loved ones.

Banning weapons will only transform the up to now law abiding into lawless, because they will not give up their weapons when they see it may be their only hope in a future that is increasingly dangerous and unstable. Restore order, restore safety and people may consider less weapons.

@9:26 "what is an assault style rifle?"

It looks like an army gun which fat dorks like to pair with their black tactical vests when they pretend they're Chuck Norris with their other obese friends. After a couple hours of "pew-pew-pew" they'll usually go to Arby's and hang out until their raging hard ons deflate.

The ATF, FBI, DEA, and Justice Department could cut gun violence in half within 2 years by concentrating its efforts in areas that produce the most gun violence; big cities.

But they won’t. Why?

How many firearms arrests did these agencies make in Chicago last year? How about Los Angeles or Atlanta. Philly?

We aren’t serious about gun violence because federal law enforcement agencies that have the resources to crush it, won’t. Instead, tens of millions of law abiding gun owners in this country who have committed no crimes or done nothing wrong will be scapegoated for this violence and be forced to look over their shoulders.

The faux outrage, erroneous finger pointing, and refusal to tackle gun violence where it overwhelming occurs is proof positive of the political hypocrisy that nauseatingly dominates post shooting media cycles.

If your local police officer carries it to protect our families, you as a private, law abiding citizen should be able to possess it to protect your own.

Biden famously said that Americans only need pump action shotguns like the ones our pappys kept in their closets for self defense.

Would have been just as many dead in Tennesse had this person utilized a pump action shotgun.

For any gun with greater than 6 bullet capacity - Mandatory insurance, comprehensive background checks and severe penalties for owning/obtaining fire arms outside of a legal fire arms dealer. No private sales.

Full lawlessness in our urban streets is much closer than we care to believe. As it is now, a growing number of people are leaving cities like Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, New York, and Philadelphia. Why? Because many existing crimes are being ignored by city officials in those places. If people are arrested, they are frequently sent right back out in the streets. If jail time is determined, it is either too light, or quickly reduced.

Maybe, a victim has time and opportunity to dial 911 for help. 5-6 minutes later police might arrive. Until then, we’re on our own. American society has been breaking down. We all see this now. Taking away weapons of defense from law-abiding citizens will be resisted. Besides, the bad guys don’t follow laws, anyway.

@10:50 - The reason the sale of these weapons has exploded, is from the politics of division...

While I partly agree with some of your answer above, you are not acknowledging that the NRA and gun makers behind the NRA, are equally contributing to the division (and profiting handsomely) by creating scary boogeymen out of "Leftist Gun Grabbing Democrats", amplifying or originating that Democrat controlled inner cities are crime infested no man lands and/or that 10,000 gang member caravans are marauding across the border each and every hour.

I 100% agree with you that division within our country is WAY OUT of control. Lets just agree that its not a one sided division.

More than one thing can be true in any argument. What is needed is reasonable, rational understanding of problems, then applying small measured solutions to them.

When I was in high school in Easton, especially during deer season, almost every car and pickup had a shotgun or high powered rifle inside of them sitting in the school parking lot. There wasn't ever any school shootings or even police on campus. Society changed. Not the guns.

Anonymous said...

I just finished watching the body cam footage of this incident. The officers actions were heroic, no waiting around like those idiots in Uvalde. They kept pushing each other to get to where they needed to be. The young officers showed incredible leadership and courage, they kept everyone moving.

As far as the mass shootings; prior to the San Diego McDonalds in 1984 they were unheard of. There were always guns. Heck, in the 80's you could go to any high school parking lot in PA during hunting season and see the guns in the pickup trucks. So what's changed? I really don't have the answers but to say that violent media, violent video games and the like don't have something to do with it, well I would disagree. It's complicated. There are a lot of factors here, a desensitizing to violent actions and little value put on life, the break down of the American nuclear family, rampant mental health problems, social media. I really don't know, but I feel like our country is at an inflection point.

Anonymous said...

The media is a joke. I just read the AP story on this shooting, they don't even mention the shooter was trans until the 8th paragraph LOL. A transgender person shooting up a christian school, watch how fast this goes away. It wasn't an angry white Trump guy, so the media will move on quickly. In the meantime they'll try to humanized this shooter to stir up sympathy for them. I say that even though I can't stand Trump by the way.................

If you drove a motor vehicle today, you presented a greater threat of death or injury to American society than any and all law abiding gun owners.

Fact!

Anonymous said...

Actually, assault style is an attribute assigned to things that adult bed wetters have decided that others shouldn’t have because of the inherent dangers associated with things that look evil. These are the philosophical descendants of the bigots who decided that the way people looked meant that they had to use different water fountains and restrooms. It’s nothing more that aesthetic bigotry masquerading as concern for public health and safety. Like it always has been.

Most agree the problems are many and many contribute to the divide in this country including all of us. It seems simple. Hold criminals accountable especially those involving gun violence and violence in general. Offer significant mental health benefits and restart inpatient mental health care. Close the border. Stop blaming each other and do something! Stop threatening our rights and playing politics and start to fix all that's broken. Hold criminals accountable and increase bail and jail time. Hold people accountable who are doing wrong. Don't go after those who aren't. A start

And aren’t a “problem” for 99.8% of Americans who legally own and possess them.

Continue to belittle THOSE people.

You don’t ever have shit to say about immoral defense attorneys, lazy and corrupt prosecutors, or ineffectual law enforcement agencies, especially federal law enforcement agencies.

80% of illegal gun violence occurs in our 100 largest cities. And we know exactly who is committing and being victimized by gun violence in those areas.

Can’t say it though. Don’t believe your lying eyes.

Make your smart ass comments and keep blaming guns.

It’s the laziest and least intellectual comment you could make on this subject.

I was at the time 0n top 10 of The State Governor's 20 combat shooters ,both rifle and pistol. . Maintaining that 8 years in row. Ah- I find out Administrator is a fake Marine, and we we’re paying this ass hole retirement? Joe livd next to a combat marine in 1st marriage, and he would drink beer in his garage with door open in summer.. ok Here’s the point , I know how to get into a school building still undetected. I also figure mosts armed school cops got a job because they were in with someone. I will make this statement : most cops can’t shoot their way out of a paper bag. The they retire and get a job at school district ? Hirer former Combat Marines and Army and nobody will attempt to bridge security. You don’t like what is say -take a hike. School security is — marginal.

I guess you live in a bubble in Fantasyland.

After doing his standup comedy act, the first comments about the Nashville shooting made by the President of the United States - a democrat - was that he wanted to ban “assault weapons” (whatever the hell those are) and other semiautomatic firearms.

That’s not the NRA or gun makers “creating a boogeyman”. That’s the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES telling you what he wants to do. And not a single elected democrat in the federal government (or any state government) gave any opposition to that statement.

If you can’t acknowledge that reality, you certainly don’t have the ability to make reasonable and rational suggestions to fix the problem.

Anonymous said...

@8:09 - Think its you who lives in a fantasy land or have allowed others to do your thinking for you.

Using the "what are assault weapons" question shows you're simply unwilling or unable to grasp the problem - because if you were honest with yourself you'd know exactly the type of fire arms that are the crux of the issue.

Guns are dangerous and all of them technically are tools for assault in the hands of a idiotic individual. Hand guns, hunting rifles, shot guns can all kill humans just as easily, but are a tad less easy and efficient than their higher capacity counterparts that tend to be the preferred tool in most mass murder events. A lot of gun fetishists proudly have the silhouette of their favorite "assault rifle" as a sticker on their car or a t-shirt as a giggly way to own and trigger libs.

BUT - lets blame mental health concerns, offer thoughts and prayers or ask other dumb questions to deflect and distract. If we give in just this once on AR-15s, what's next? You offer no solutions, you ignore reality and just cast blame on others. You aren't reasonable and you arent rational, therefore you can't fix the problem.

9:58 said: "Guns are dangerous and all of them technically are tools for assault in the hands of a idiotic individual."

So all guns are assault weapons?

Thanks for letting me know what you want and who you are.

BTW, knives, baseball bats and almost anything else would fit your idiotic definition.

Anonymous said...

I hope no one here actually believes if a disturbed individual is told he/she can’t purchase a gun, that person can’t get one.

Anonymous said...

@11:42 - I didn't say they were, but we can list anything someone can hold to fit the definition. Again you just asking the question or looking for a definition of what you and everyone else with 2 brain cells already knows, lets everyone know what you dont want and who you are. You're part of the problem. You want your toys and will cry and whine and hold your breath because you want to play with them.

Driver runs car through crowded parade: it's the driver. Shooter fires weapon through crowded school: now it's the gun. Guns are the only inanimate object that cause death on their own. As one side of our political spectrum likes to remind us: the science is settled.

Anonymous said...

@2:00 - Always with this dumb argument.

Guns were invented and have been used for centuries with the purpose of killing, maiming or disabling the individual or animal on the business end of it.

Cars were not invented or intended for such use.

Anonymous said...

"The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry trade association, points out on its website that the “AR” actually doesn’t stand for assault rifle or automatic rifle but dates back to the 1950s and refers to the company that developed the weapon system, Armalite Rifle.

“AR-15-style rifles are NOT ‘assault weapons’ or ‘assault rifles,’ according to NSSF’s website. “An assault rifle is fully automatic — a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.”

The NSSF added, “AR-15-style rifles look like military rifles, such as the M-16, but function like other semi-automatic civilian sporting firearms, firing only one round with each pull of the trigger.”"

Anonymous said...

2:20 - prior to guns being invented, the harming and killing STILL happened. Rocks, bow and arrows, slingshots, wooden clubs, etc.,etc. Some maladjusted, desperate, threatened, jealous, etc. people will use whatever means to put their opponent away to end the crisis they alone are feeling. That’s almost a basic human instinct. You can’t legislate away every reason why someone chooses killing another.

Take away ALL forms of guns (as if that’s even remotely possible) and the number of killings might go down, but never be eliminated. If your goal is to prevent all killing . . . forget about it.

Anonymous said...

Not a dumb argument. YOU via the operation of a motor vehicle, pose a bigger threat of injury or death to the American public, than 99.9999% of gun owners.

Sleep on it.

Anonymous said...

As assault RIFLE is a pistol with an arm brace on it.

So says the ATF.

Anonymous said...

@3:16 - Can't prevent all killing, and can't (and don't even want to) take away all guns.

Hunting, personal defense and target shooting are all perfectly valid reasons to own a gun.

WE CAN make it MUCH more difficult for one individual to inflict catastrophic damage with a semi automatic rifle equipped with a bump stock and large capacity magazines. Doing so would not infringe on the rights of American citizens.

What is the leading cause of death for the age range of 1 to 19?

Its not disease, its not drowning, its not drugs and it is NOT car crashes. Its guns.

Anonymous said...

9:58am. I am still waiting for your definition of an "Assault Rifle" Also cars are dangerous. Are you for taking everybody's cars away? As for solutions how can I offer one when you can't give me the definition of an item you claim is causing the problem. But don't worry because the DHS secretary couldn't do it either. Have a good day and fun riding a bike because your car is dangerous. Oh wait a bike could also be dangerous.

I applaud response by officers here. But in my humble opinion, tactical rifles with optics are not a good idea in close quarters. I’ve personally done this drill about 100 times with Army Guard ,” Governor’s Twenty “ competition and leg match’s to get there. It take too long to find your target in close quarters . However , mission accomplished. They went right in there asap and did it. Saving countless other lives . School services of armed security should in my opinion be able to clear a B-27 ( target )completely with at least Expert score ,if they can’t,they shouldn’t be accessing school buildings in their occupation.

Vast majority of gun related killings of “children” is drug and gang related and occurs in our inner cities.

And gun deaths are the only statistics where 18 and 19 year olds are considered “children”. I wonder why.

It’s so dishonest liberals can more easily sell their leftist agenda under the guise of protecting “children”.

@4:02 - Do you even bother reading the comments or just come here directly to fart your thoughts directly out onto your keyboard? You've asked the same question over and over.

The AR-15 (the AR stands for Armalite Rifle, not Assault Rifle) would be the fire arm most Americans consider to be an "assault weapon" since it tends to be used in most mass shootings here in the country. So when you hear people talking about banning assault rifles, they're most likely taking about AR-15s - Got it? Whether it fits your limited definition or not, lets use the AR-15 and any of its cousins that have a rate of fire greater than 25 rounds per minute as the description of an assault weapon since you don't need that capacity to hunt or self defense.

Now that the definition is cleared up - lets hear your thoughts on what this country can do to regulate these assault weapons and limit the ability for them to be used by weak minded people to kill other people.

Anonymous said...

7AM is correct! Screw those dumb drug addicted inner city children! Its their fault for standing in front of the gun!

106,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in this country in 2021, predominantly from drugs streaming across our southern border.

As a result of Biden/Democrat policies, millions of people stream across this border. Border security is essentially non existent.

It’s a problem that is allowed because the people who complain about gun violence, willingly trade overdose deaths for millions of future prospective voters for the Democrat party.

Don’t preach to legal gun owners about the dangers of their lawfully owed and possessed firearms, while supporting and voting for a political party and ideology that has turned out cities into war zones, and our borders into criminal conduits of the opioid trade.

Hypocrites.

@1139

A little tutorial on firearms.

A pump action shotgun capable of holding 6 shells can unleash 54 (yes…54) .33 caliber projectiles at 1300 feet per second, in 5 seconds.

That is essentially 54 rounds of 9mm in 5 seconds.

Anonymous said...

The AR-15 has been available since 1961. Before that you had semi autos holding 30 or more rounds. I'm sure this whole issue has nothing to do with the fact we shut down hundreds of.mental hospitals in the 80's and 90's and made it harder to have people out under care. Let's punish millions of law-abiding Americans for the mental health and criminal acts of a bunch of scum and monsters. Banning certain weapons is not a answer here. Also she used a Keltec 9mm and a .22 rimfire copy of a AR-15. Stop pandering to the mentally ill as a first step.

So drugs are illegal yet they're still abused..it's almost as of banning something doesn't fix the problem. Wow

Guns that operate and hold the same amount of bullets have been wisely available since the early 20th century. Something has changed in our society. That's a simple fact.
The Israelis had a simple. Solution to school shootings which was a volunteer force being used to guard schools. That was in the 1970's. We will gladly guard a bank here in the states and spend hundreds of millions or billions to finance insane programs but won't toss out a few hundred million to run a school guard program. It's not just the republicans problem but a democrats. They could end these shootings if they truly wanted. School guards wouldn't be trendy enough. Bans are what's flashy on the TV news and easy.
