Easton City Council Member Racking Up Code Violations

Taiba Sultana, who immigrated to the United States from Pakistan, is Easton City Council's first Muslim member. As an elected official for the City, she should be setting an example for the people she represents. She is, but it's a bad example. She's been cited three times. In one matter she was found guilty and fined. In the other two matters, the court awaits a plea.

property maintenance violation 4/7/21. Guilty 7/13/21. Fined $170.76. (NT138-2-21)

property maintenance violation 12/29/22. Awaiting plea. (NT2-2023)

exterior maintenance sanitation violation 12/29/22. Awaiting plea (NT3-2023)

Most code violations are the result of inspections following complaints by neighbors. That's hardly a good way to get re-elected.

Sultana's husband, Nadeem Qayyum, is running for Northampton County Controller as a Democrat.

If the council woman and her husband Nadeem can't take care of their house, how did they loan themselves $40K into Nadeem's campaign? Where did that money come from?
Where does he work? I only see them taking pictures and campaigning-CONSTANTLY. If he is self-employed, where is he working? This doesn't make any sense.

I asked since his SFI states he is self-employed. His answer. "I virtually teach international and contract law to International students. I am also a part-time independent contractor with rideshare companies."

Easton voters, look in the mirror, you earned this.

If you can't take care of your own house, how are you going to take care of the County's house. I was not going to vote for Zrinski for obvious reasons (Rubber stamp to McClure) butam seriously reconsidering.

The woman has been beat everytime she ran. City council, school board, mayor. She won this time cause nobody in Easton would step up to run. Easton people cant stand her. She shows up for photo opps only!! I heard the mayor of Easton is endorsing Tara. Is this true Bernie? Dont forget Mohammad Nadeem was beat when he ran for judge.

Virtual teaching and he has been in court for inspections on his vehicle. How does he have $40,000 for his campaign. Also hope he figured out his inspection stuff while he is ridesharing.

Bernie... also is he really self-employed id he is teaching internationally. Does he advertise himself and collect the money or is he paid by a 3rd party or University. This is a flaw on his statement of financial interests and should be explored.

I see a pattern of shadiness that you should not give a pass.

Say what you will about Tara. Yeah she is crazy and a loose cannon, but at least she discloses who is paying her even if it exposes her to more criticism.

Hell Nadeem's real first name is Muhamad he's not even being truthful about that.

I am aware of his motor vehicle violations, which to me are more or less irrelevant. His SFI indicates he is self-employed, and is presumably paid as an independent contractor. I agree his SFI should list the sources of income if they exceed $500. I have no information that any of the entities that use him pay more than $500.

Zrinski did list multiple sources of income, and it does make me wonder whether she will keep her PT jobs as a FT controller. I'll want an answer to that question if she survives the primary.

As far as not using the name "Muhammad," he is by no means the only person who does not use his given name when running for office. Listing that name might subject him to the anti-Muslim bias that you are trying to evoke.

I believe she knocked off Sandra Vulcano.

The first thing she needs to do is learn how to speak English fluently.

Your use of "Mohammed" reminds me of those who like to say "Barack Hussein Obama." In both cases, you are trying to evoke anti-Muslim prejudice. And you claim to support progressive Zrinski. Looks like her camp is as ugly as the MAGAs.

As for Easton Mayor Sal Panto, he signed Qayyum's nomination petition ... twice.

Bernie

I was told there weas a union rally for employee rights yesterday in Easton. And out of all the speakers ( candidates included) her and her husband are the only ones to bring up the election. Telling people to vote for her husband, melan and Oconnell. Classless!!! Employees are fighting for fair working conditions, and they are there to campaign

I’d share this except the opening statement strikes me as racist and anti-Muslim. This information and the comments are important and relevant. Too bad I can’t share it.

I'm sure.

Zrinski was there, too.

He's probably an adjunct professor at one or more colleges/universities and teaches remote or online. Nothing unusual or fishy about that; it's just that he's not making close to what a FT/tenured professor would make. He just needs to fill out the state ethics forms correctly and state where his income comes from and it sounds like he did file those forms correctly and timely.

Borrowing $40K to run for a position that pays less than six figures is a bit suspicious, though.

Side Note: Zrinski, on her campaign FB page, called him "abelist" for "dropping $40 into his own campaign."

Yes, Qayyum called Zrinski an "ableist" for noting that she got her degrees "in the classroom." That's when she called Qayuum an "ableist" for lending $ to his campaign. Neither seems to know what an "ableist" is and are just throwing it out there bc it sounds oh so woke. Zrinski's slur about getting her degrees "in the classroom" is a classist remark intended to demean Nadeem. It might even be racist. I note that her base seems to consist of well-to-do white women, but minorities are suspicious.

Her complaint about him lending $ to himself being "ableist" while she runs a gross roots campaign (with $ from unions and special interests) is difficult to understand. It's certainly not ableist or classist. It's actually smart. Lamont McClure lent money to his campaign. It's actually a good financial move. If you lend the $ to your campaign, you can pay it back with campaign finance funds. Is Nadeem being truthful? Some might express doubt. All I'll say is I will be reviewing his campaign finance report.

Qayyum's native tongue is not English, but Punjabi. So I can understand him misusing a word at times. Zrinski, who claims to be a college professor at two different schools, should know better.

Funny that slurs are thrown at this man about work and being able to run all over the place. If anyone has payed attention you would notice that it is hard to imagine what gainful employment Zirinski can really do, as she runs around to every public gathering there is. If only she took as much interest in her real elected position in the county as she does networking and showing her face, she might have accomplished something. Hey Zirinski, glass house throwing stones?

As elected officials and candidates, we were invited to the rally to support Hearst workers, not to campaign. And most of us honored that. Hearst employees are negotiating for fair working conditions and we were there to lend encouragement. It was not an election event and Ms. Sultana’s remarks about voting were out of place.

Glad to see someone finally shed some light on these two.
It’s very clear to anyone who has paid the slightest bit of attention to Taiba Sultan’s social media profiles, that her (and her husband) only goal is to seek higher office and use any position locally she can get elected to, as a stepping stone for higher office.
Every single event these two attend (and it’s a lot), they routinely show up last minute and contribute nothing, but make it a priority to have a photo op with whoever is the most important person in attendance.
She’s has done nothing of importance to date on City Council. The only thing accomplished is policy that has no effect whatsoever to the city, but makes for great social media videos when reading her proposals at city council.
Not sure I’ve ever locally seen two people with such clearly transparent agendas (and zero qualifications), attempt to secure a life long career as an elected official.

I am sorry that you feel that way. Just to be clear, I have not officially endorsed any candidate. It might have sounded wrong but all I did was give a reminder for the upcoming election. Because I believe elections have a major impact on wages and salaries and this is why unions endorse candidates.

After reading all of this article I will not be supporting either of the Sultana’s

Totally agree 100%

Councilwoman, you clearly stated "Vote for Peter Milan for mayor". That is an endorsement, not a reminder. You also stated " vote for my husband Nadeem" again, an endorsement NOT a reminder. Honestly, most dont feel it is a huge deal, you back tracking and not being truthful afterward is the issue.

Bernie, do you know that your links haven't worked since you put this thread online? I hate to be the jerk. But I am anxious to see how bad she is or isn't.

I'm sorry to hear this. The link probably only works on my PC. Here's how to duplicate.
1) Go to https://ujsportal.pacourts.us/CaseSearch
2) Under search, go to "search by participant name."
3) Unger County, scroll to Northampton County
4) Type in last name and first name
5) Search

You will see 7 matters. I considered three relevant.
