Hyman said his strong ties to the Latino community is one of the reasons he decided to run. "Over 50% of our city is Latino," he observed. "The current Mayor has not addressed the needs of this community in any way. It is absolutely essential that the next Mayor take on the issues which are most important to the majority of our citizens, the Latino community. We must ensure that we have clean and safe streets where our children can play and the elderly can walk at night without fear. I will aggressively eliminate the 1,000 blighted buildings throughout the city and, in so doing, help those who want to achieve the dream of homeownership. Most importantly, we must ensure that every child has access to an excellent quality education which will give them hope and a bright future they deserve."
Hyman's wife, Erica, and his two daughters, Julia and Lizzie, all speak Spanish fluently. They have been meeting and speaking with members of the Latino community to understand their needs, wishes and dreams. "The people have been inviting us into their homes like we are members of their family," said Erica. "I cannot tell you how warm and kind people have been to us. When we meet, I try to explain that the main reason that Nat ran for Mayor was to improve the quality of life for the Latino population of Allentown. He will work tirelessly to give a hand up to everyone who wants it! "

He wants to cut into "Fed Ed's" base. Good for him, however, he has not proposed one single new element to combat the massive crime problem that pervades Allentown. Lip Service will not do, after all, this is what "Fed Ed" has done for years; twisting and turning national crime figures, [that were trending down but are on the upswing] and denying there is a crime problem in Allentown. If Hyman is truly an anti-crime busting mayor, [and I sincerely doubt it], come out with a comprehensive public safety initiative that will actually attack crime, not produce empty rhetoric.

So far as i know, there is absolutely zero proof to back up that accusation. I checked. I know some of his former tenants. I have visited his buildings. It is easy to slur a landlord like this. The evidence is wanting. But there is plenty of evidence that Fed Ed is a crook. You can fill a dining room with the evidence.

Hyman has addressed this. He has made clear that the best way to address public safety is to make sure that those departments are properly staffed. That has not been the case under Fed Ed.

Excuse me, but the best way to deter street crime is with the appropriate number of police on patrol. Perhaps you like calling to report a crime and waiting 4 minutes for an officer.
The police are not your bodyguards. Your best defense against a criminal is to be armed. The police then can drag the perp away
In that respect, the best way to deter street crime is an armed population. Criminals prefer soft targets, such as gun-free cities. You see, it is the criminals then who are armed. The population has been reduced to sheep.
Keeping staff figures up to complement helps, however, if staffing is not utilized in its' most efficient use, it simply won't help. "Fed Ed" has repeatedly held staffing levels, [Both APD and AFD], below budgeted complements. By far, he has been the worse administrator of Public Safety in the City of Allentown.
However, the other two viable candidates have offered little or no anti-crime plan. When my granduncle was Chief of Police in Allentown, they, [the department], published a yearly statistical analysis and a plan to combat certain problems that were prolific. This practice subsequently died in the ensuing years.
The problem hear is that none of these candidates, Hyman and O'Connell, offer nothing but the same old thing. Recognize the problems, produce a comprehensive plan to fight this, and shakeup the current administrations in both entities to produce programs, active and proactive, which will fight crime. None of these, police and fire, current administrations are capable of doing this or they're just afraid of the big cat in the mayor's seat. Carson S. Gable II
