On Friday, two sources informed me that Easton City Council member Taiba Sultana has been in touch with several Democratic political consultants for a possible bid to unseat incumbent Democratic State Rep. Bob Freeman. I have reached out to her in an effort to determine whether this is true, and will provide her answer if I get one.
Sultana, who apparently considers herself Easton's Foreign Affairs Advisor, currently faces domestic assault charges following an incident at her home involving an adult son. She was arraigned in Northampton County Court on December 21, and a trial has been set for February 26. She has, however, applied for admission into a special program for first offenders in which charges are dismissed after a successful period o0f probation,
She is represented in the assault matter by Ettore "Ed" Angelo, a well-regarded criminal defense attorney.
In addition to these criminal charges, she is being sued by landlords Toni Marie Concilio and Joseph R Rodriguez for $4,850 over a broken lease on Easton's south side. A hearing in that matter is set for February 1 before Magisterial District Judge Sue Hutnick.

I have not heard anything regarding that. But if that's the case, I am voting for her. This is the political office that she is most suitable for.
Bernie, You are ill-informed. People of Easton know that her arrest was politically motivated and she, herself, mentioned many times how she was scammed by the people whom she helped rent the apartment.

Bob Freeman should have retired rather than being unseated. Councilwoman Sultana is hard-working and a real one. If happens, this race will be a piece of cake to her. And the mentioned disputes are nothing. It just tells she is part of the surviving middle class. I applaud her courage.

Bob is a decent and honorable person who has served his community as well as he can considering he has been in the minority for most of his time in office. But he has been there too long. It is time for a fresh face, but Sultana is not that fresh face. She is polarizing, a bit unhinged and quick to find racism and sexism in everything.

Take a look out your window. See the snow? Frank spent most of the weekend plowing snow all over the Lehigh Valley. I doubt he's doing anything but catching up on his sleep right now. For some reason, Sultana really has it in for him. The reality is that she has made very few friends in Easton.
Well, thank Mat Muncy and Lauritzen for introducing Sultana to politics. Muncy carted her around a few times to get her started at various meetings and caucuses and pushed her until they realized what a liability she was. Thanks guys.

From her perspective if she wishes to move up in politics, Sultana running for state rep. makes sense. She doesn't seem to get along with anyone on city council and I doubt, if she were interested, she'd have any chance at being appointed to the open county council seat, and she has no chance at ever being mayor. That being said, I have a feeling that the NorCo Democrat Party leadership has almost no interest in her representing a sliver of the L.V. in Harrisburg. The baton will be passed to someone less bombastic and with less, or no, baggage.

As for the DUI, Boscola accepted responsibility for her actions and addressed her problems. She didn't blame others for her DUI. Sultana seems to have a problem taking ownership of her mistakes. As for the alleged pub incident, nothing ever came of that; all speculation.
However, as a legislator, she's competent and has been effective. She does fight for the people she represents and doesn't use her position to leapfrog into another. She doesn't use her position to preach about matters that aren't within her duties as a state senator just so she can win votes or make the news. She's much closer to a model politician than Sultana, or most elected leaders in the L.V., are. She's a Democrat but not a political (i.e. party first, Democrats always right) one. The voters of Allentown have not sent anyone into public office of the same caliber of dedication, competency, and effectiveness as Boscola in decades; not even close. I would argue that of all the local elected leaders, no one fights harder for the people they represent than Boscola. That's why she keeps getting re-elected. She's not perfect and has had at least one case of very poor judgement in her personal life, but no one's pulling the lever for he because of her skin color.
But, yes, I agree with you that a DUI is a valid reason not to vote for someone.
Boscola is just a hot mess trying to remain relevant via her bullying and good ole boy networking for support.She has a boy wonder running her errands and making unkept promises to those who contribute to her role.

That could be said about many elected positions, especially school board seats. But people keep electing the same drab candidates over and over, and wonder why nothing gets done (except political favors).

Those issues are proof of being an average person. Taiba directly relates to the people living in third-class cities like the City of Easton.

I did a quick PA court case search statewide over the past 20 years and Boscola has never been charged with simple assault nor harassment subject to other physical contact. The same cannot be said for Sultana. In fact, Boscola's name does not appear on any court document as a defendant in a 20 year case search.

Boscola has done great work for the LV. She represents her district well and I have seen her go to bat for other LV municipalities outside her district.
I remember meeting her son at Councilmember Taiba’s Thanksgiving dinner for the less fortunate at the Easton Community Center. The family seems to be fine. I also snapped their family photo that was shared by the council member on social media. You guys are wasting your energy talking to her foot.
It’s easy. Do you want chaos and bullying or an orderly, informed representative? Don’t use that “the state level is a better fit” argument for Taiba. Be honest. Our district is better served by Bob Freeman who would never pull the stunts we’ve seen from Taiba in Easton.

Boscola teamed with former Republican Scavello to stop the Easton aquarium project. She had Scavello attend a council meeting and made claims that another aquarium to be built in Poconos was too close in proximity to the proposed Easton plan. To this day there is no aquarium in the Poconos. She did no favor to Easton.
