Baratta Announces NorCo DA Candidacy

Yesterday, Steve Baratta announced his candidacy for NorCo District Attorney in a news release that was distributed to multiple new outlets. I would have posted his announcement, but I never received it. Either something got mixed up or he's angry because I consider his 65-page diatribe against three excellent lawyers a gigantic bullshit burger.

He does have a webpage - Baratta for DA - in which he pledges to be "accountable, accessible, responsible." He's already failed to respond to a text message asking whether he provided copies of his complaint to the persons he's attacking. And I never got his official announcement. So far, I see scant evidence of accountability, accessibility or responsibility.

In my experience, people who are in power will sometimes shut off access to people who ask uncomfortable questions. You have to play ball or they keep you in the dark. Edwin "Fed Ed" Pawloski and former Exec John Brown were that way. The former is behind bars and the latter lost a re-election campaign.

Speaking of Pawlowski, keep an eye on Allentown and Tuerk. According to three City employees, the FBI paid a visit last week.

Run hard or don't run at all. This is politics. Change your tampon, take a midol, and get back out there. Good talk ...

6:53, Even when you subscribe to the run nasty or don't run philosophy, it's a bad idea to alienate people who cover what you do. It smacks of pettiness and is a reflection of inability to take any kind of criticism.

Hey Bernie. How much is pepper paying you to run his side business?

He's only alienated you. I kind of like pols who get elected without your flacking, which you'll be doing dutifully for Baratta's opponent(s). I think you take personally that he's both smarter and meaner than you.

Baratta seems petty. He spews shit about drugs, gangs, and crime, but his liberal policies as a Judge contributed to the problem. If he’s worried about crime he should take a look in the mirror the problem is right there.

Baratta has alienated many people, especially his friends. Apologies at this time don't mean much. People who considered him a friend are in shock by what he is attempting to do for no other reason than political gains. He is taking years of friendships and stabbing those people in the back. There is nothing more important in this life than family and friends. You can never get back those cherished days you spend with each. I sincerely hope Judge Baratta comes to his senses and does the right thing. He should ask his friends for forgiveness, plead insanity and get out of the race.

7:45 So true. Baratta is a joke, and Morganelli is a huge disappointment.

He was the harshest sentencer in serious cases on the bench during his tenure. Just ask the local police departments. Check the facts on that "liberal" comment, you might be surprised how tough on crime he actually was.

When a person shows you who they are….BELIEVE them!

Terry Houck is on of the most unethical pompous people I have ever MET in my life. He has tried cases in the media when ADA which should have been pursued by families but they didn't have the cash. I will admit the Judge had some issues one of them being poor sentences when it came to prisoners placements and orders he made that could not be fulfilled. If I have to pick between the 2 and have met both I would lean towards the Judge. I will say Northampton and most other places are not blind scales of justice. Why? They are member of a bar and drink and eat together and pull favors.

Baratta is the right man for this job. We need a fair and just district attorney office.Could you only imagine four years ago if that buffoon Carroll would have got elected!

Thankfully, there were many prominent community leaders on my side who had the courage to speak up and tell me EXACTLY what went on behind closed doors.

And, now, thank you, Bernie, for giving me even more insight on this person.

My vote will be for Mr. Baratta, who has a vested interest in Northampton County. He has lived and worked here his entire life and has great insight into the county and its people. Mr. Houck, based on comments allowed on previous posts, sounds like a horrible boss who berates and ridicules his staff.

6:53 am: It is disgraceful that your sexist and demeaning comment wasn’t addressed until now.

Damned right on that one! Carroll has issues.
