Dem DA Candidate Was Republican Until November 21

Nuria DiLuzio
Nuria DiLuzio, Northampton County's Chief Public Defender, is seeking the Democratic nomination as District Attorney. I have said she appears to the candidate to beat, but some local Dem politicos think they have found her Achilles heel. She only recently became a Democrat.

On November 19, DA John Morganelli announced that his current term, which ends December 31, will be his last. Two days later, DiLuzio switched parties from Republican to Democrat.

Her voting history goes back to 1996. It reveals that, except for 2012 and 2013, she has always voted as a Republican.

This is a bit strange. During the time I've known her, she has always supported Democrats locally. I have seen her at numerous political events for Democrats seeking office.

DiLuzio offers this explanation..

"In regard to the question of my voting record, I want to say unequivocally that I am a Democrat. My values align and have aligned with the values of the Democratic party, as evidenced by my support, both in time and resources, of Senator Lisa Boscola, District Attorney John Morganelli, County Executive Lamont McClure, Bethlehem Mayor Bob Donchez and most recently, Congressperson Susan Wild.

"My bi-partisan voting record is mostly evidence that I am not a political operative. My work and my values are more reflective of my ideology than what's on my voter registration card.

"If elected, as your District Attorney, you can trust that I will pursue policies that respect each and every one of our citizens and ensure that everyone has equal access and protection under the law."

My own view, for what it's worth, is that this is a nonissue. One of the most liberal people I know has always been a Republican. No jury I know has ever had much interest in political party. The real question is whether she would make a good District Attorney. I think she would.

Funny how after she witnessed the women win across the country she decided to take the long journey across the street and change parties. It took her 2 years of Trump and his cohorts to persuade her? Had John decided to run would she have changed? This is suspicious. At this point I don't think she will have my vote.

I can go both ways on this. I agree with the statement above, that two days after John pulls out of the running, is when she gets an epiphany. Conversely, my wife and I are registered R and D, not because of ideology, but so that we can eliminate candidates in the primaries. I'm voting for Houck, so it doesn't matter.

Agree with the other posters. This information begins to confirm some other info. I am no fan of bandwagons. Is this just an ego trip opportunity or a real passion. The idea of party hopping for an advantage is not a new thing but when it is so apparent it is troublesome.

Will not have my vote. If she gets in the DAs office will have a mass exodus.

When you switch parties for political and monetary gain ,you become a political -----. When you move into a district to run for political office for monetary gain you become a money seeking financial -----. These people have shown where their loyalty lies and it's money money money. Nuria should run as a Republican and Houck should run for District Attorney in Bucks County. Neither one gets my vote.

for some reason people who run for office of any kind in this country have ego problems most if not all of them are ME people and all of them know what is good for you our goverment breeds these people and its not going to stop you can see the results maybe term limits would help take away the retirements and health care for life maybe this would help but the current system that breeds life long politicians is not working and will never work

Was she born in the USA?

Russian mail-order bride!

What kind of prosecution experience does she have? My understanding is none. I agree with 4:44 that a mass exodus of the experienced prosecutors in the office could be expected if she is elected. That would be good news for the criminals but not a good thing for the citizens, the county or the cops.

According to the Department of State, she was registered Democrat from 2012 to 2013. The rest of the time she was registered Republican. Though the 4-year break in voting from 2008 to 2012 is interesting.

She was born in Kenya? Wonder if she has a birth certificate?

Can a non US born citizen hold that position?

I am a die hard D......always have been and always will be. Nuria has always supported Dems and has the same positions that I do on almost every issue. She will be a great DA for Northampton County and a great representative of Democratic principals!!!!

I am non binary!!!

Come on people, she was not born in Kenya, that was a BO joke.

They are both lawyers and meet the qualifications to run for DA. However, Diluzio was 'always' qualified (regardless of political affiliation)...Houck was not.

How many cases did Morganelli prosecute before he became DA? I thought it was zero.
