New tariffs by the Trump administration are going pretty badly among our allies. In a telephone call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Authoritarian Donald Trump allegedly joked that the Canadians burned down the White House during the War of 1812.
If this really happened, and is not Fake News, it is incredibly tone deaf. America did invade Canada twice, both during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. On both occasions, we got our asses kicked. Nobody in America or England remembers the War of 1812. But Canadians do.
We also wanted England to surrender Canada to us as reparations after the Civil War. Then President Ulysses S Grant dropped that demand.

Canada did not burn down the White House in 1812. I'd like to see someone offer to donate $1 million to Veterans causes if Trump admits he was wrong on the facts, and apologizes to the Canadian PM.
Also I think Trump should release his birth certificate, and it should be scrutinized closely for authenticity. Such shocking ignorance of our history raises questions about where he was born.

The British actually burned the White House and the Capitol as well as some other buildings in retaliation for the Americans burning down Canada's capital of York.
He saw it on Fox and Friends so he's got cover and the people who watch Fox will be none the wiser to his ignorance. Russia is very proud of him.

With all the history of our country that this president has gotten wrong in his tweets and speeches he might have been attempting humor, but I doubt he actually knew it was Britain and not Canada. I believe all he heard from somebody was that the burning of our capital was in retaliation for an invasion of Canada and he concluded in his moronic brain that it must have been Canada that burned D.C.
I'd love to see Trump's score on an 5th grade American history test, if he were to take one. I'd be surprised if he got a passing grade.

Require all companies in Mexico who trade with the US or are US owned pay the US minimum wage to their workers.

Also US companies that chase the lowest wage in the world would have an incentive to save on transportation costs and make their products in the US benefiting US workers.

Then I don't understand why you think tariffs on steel and aluminum mean that you will "keep more of your hard-earned money." If anything you'll need to pay more for everything you buy that is made with steel or aluminum components.

Read that Chamber of Commerce court jester big Toni Ianneli loves the tariffs. He said there will be short term pain but ultimately it will be great. Of course six figure salary and bountiful benefits Toni is a big representative of the banker class and they love high interest rates and companies needing loans.
