I'm having a tough time figuring out all the special interests who have LV Congressman Charlie Dent in their pocket. Whomever the latest public bogeyman, whether it's "Big Pharma" or "Wall Street" or "Big Insurance," Dent is their boy. We're back to "Big Oil," one of my favorites, again. We all notice that prices at the pump have skyrocketed. Now you might think that has something to do with Goofy Gaddafi, who's starting his own fashion line after he clears out all those dead bodies in Libya. But don't be fooled by the "King of Kings of Africa.." The DCCC has it all figured out again, and is embarking on an ... ahem ... "grassroots" campaign funded by donations from their own special interests to attack dirty House Republicans like Charlie Dent for "forcing homeless veterans to sleep in the streets, taking teachers out the classrooms, scientists out of the labs, and underfunding police programs just so Big Oil companies can keep their taxpayer subsidies.”
I tried to reach Dent, but on Tuesday and Thursday nights, he drives a rig for Exxon.

Where is the President doing anything about this? Is he pushing to open up more areas for domestic drilling? Is he cutting the red tape to open new nuclear power plants?
No, he's actually making it tougher to drill and has done nothing on nuclear power.
The Democrats want higher gas and energy prices because their voting groups have a disdain for the American lifestyle. The President admitted during the 2008 campaign that under his plan, energy prices "would necessarily skyrocket".
As I pay more at the pump - or to heat my home - I know exactly who to blame. It's the Democrats, not some big-oil bogeyman.
It's not at all clear why you think this is self-evidently bunk. Does the continuing resolution that Dent voted for do those things? Yes, it does. Did Dent just vote last week not to collect money that the US government is in fact owed by oil companies? Yes, he did.
Obviously a political press release is going to be worded to make the vote sound as bad as possible, but the fact is that none of this is even exaggerated.
Dent doesn't have any problem blowing up the deficit to extend the Bush tax cuts without offsets.
He doesn't have any problem blowing up the deficit to repeal the ACA without offsets.
But spending on poor people, pregnant women and other weak claimants - that we can't afford!
Nevermind that there's not any serious deficit reduction in the plan. Nevermind that it will hurt the econonmy and cost 1 million jobs.
Of course Dent is in bed with big money interests, he is a professional politician, that is what they do. The system is currently designed that way. It doesn't matter which party one is from, money in politics gets in the way of smart policy-making.
As for "Patrick McHenry," your argument always seems to be blame the Democrats. So here are some facts:
Noble Energy was just granted the first permit since the BP oil spill to drill in the Gulf two days ago.
Royal Dutch Shell did not start a new project in Alaska a few weeks back. This had nothing to do with regulations, but internal corporate
issues.
The construction schedule on Nuclear Power Plants is 5 years (http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/commission/secys/2006/secy2006-0114/enclosure3.pdf). This does not include the time it takes to pick the site and get approvals from the local authorities. I agree that nuclear is important, but this has been the case through both Dem and Rep administrations.
Sadly, it sounds like your interpretation of the "American Lifestyle" is a wasteful one. You know, I should be able to drive a Hummer that gets 6 mpg and get gas for $1/gal. Reality is oil is harder to get out of the ground and we could never produce enough domestically to meet our needs.
If you want "cheap gas" you, me, all of us need to be willing to make some changes. Maybe drive a more cost effective car (I drive a hybrid myself), walk or bicycle instead of driving short distances, use high efficient light bulbs, embrace alternative energy sources, etc.
Sorry to break this news to you, but Ronald Reagan is the one who should be ultimately held responsible for our dependence on oil. In the late 1970s President Carter embraced the goal of energy independence and Reagan stopped it in its tracks. Now, unlike Brazil who successfully broke its dependence, we are heading back to $4/gal gasoline prices.
My suggestion is to buy a Prius, install a geothermal heating system, and push your Representative and Senators to embrace a sustainable path to energy independence. Sorry if that's not "American" enough for you.

Ronald Reagan is responsible for the destruction of the American middle class. His laissez fare de-regulation policies were a death knell for middle America.
They wrapped the same old crap in an American flag and sold it like apple pie.
Within 12 years the rift between rich and poor grew to unheard of proportions and America went fast forward into 3rd world status.

gee, I guess Callahn doesn't look so bad after all? WE elected the wrong person -- it's our own fault. Dent is nothing more than a polished campaigner who knows what to say at campaign times and then votes the exact opposite. But us DEMS keep voting for him Shame on us!!!
I have no regrets on choosing Charlie Dent.
But everyone regrets you, so it all evens out.
