Charlie Dent: "Our Enemy Has Not Forgotten Us, and We Should Not Forget Them"

LV Congressman Charlie Dent is a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection. As federal investigators unravel the Christmas Day terror plot that nearly resulted in the explosion of an American passenger jet on flight over Detroit, Dent has issued the following statement:

“The attempted downing of an aircraft and its 250-plus passengers was a foiled terrorist attack, plain and simple. Yesterday’s events show that aviation continues to be a target for terrorists.

“I have serious concerns about our security systems and what more we need to do to assure passenger safety. We need to know what kind of screening was done on the suspect before he boarded the aircraft, including whether he should have been on the no-fly or selectee lists for aviation.

“I want to commend those individuals on the plane who saw something suspicious, acted, and took control of the situation. Would-be terrorists and others who threaten the safety of our homeland should take a lesson from this incident. The American traveling public is not going to sit still and become victims; they are vigilant and prepared to defend themselves and their fellow travelers against attackers.”

“I also want to assure the American public that the men and women of the TSA are doing everything possible to ensure their safe travel this holiday season.

“Travelers can expect tighter security at the airports. We need to be patient with the extra security and remember that if you see something suspicious, say something. Our enemy has not forgotten us, nor should we forget them.”

The guy who attacked the Nigerian was Dutch and all the security the Nigerian passed through was foreign. Does anyone care what Dent thinks?

You should. He is a member of the Homeland Security House Committee and Ranking Member of its Transportation Subcommittee. What he thinks makes a difference to our internal security, which was just threatened.

Now I realize we have an election coming up, but on matters like this, the politics should end. He had a message for his constituents about a matter bearing directly on their security. It's in an area in which he is directly involved. Let's stop the nonsense before it starts.

I agree the politics must end. Next week Mr. Dent in his official capacity will issue a statement condemning those who say bad things about mothers. He will also explain that kicking a puppy is immoral. Also that we should all be concerned abouut the health and safety of each other, well maybe not the health but safety, yeah thats a good one to run with.

We can all sleep safer. This was not a political staement.

I mean none of this, it was pure political sarcasim written in jest.

If you want to make light of a frickin' terrorist who tries to blow up a passenger plane with 250 innocent people in flight over the continental US on Christmas Day, go ahead and make an ass out of yourself. When it comes to national security, we should stop being partisans and start being Americans. Is that so hard?

Yemen and Nigeria are our new enemies. Time to invade Belguim!

I'm amazed this Nigerian even dared try a terrorist attack what with Dent in charge and all.

This Nigerian very nearly succeeded in killing 250 people, showing how vulnerable we are. If you wish to make light of this, or use it as an opportunity to take a shot at Dent, shame on you. Fortunately, most of us are better than that.

Liberals can't be trusted with national security.

Liberals have no idea what national security even is.

Liberals believe this Nigerian fellow was a victim.

1:45 is correct. They couldn't find Barry for three hours and nobody could make a decision on closing air space in the event it was another coordinated attack.

These amateurs are dangerous. It's just a matter of time before the gang Barry keeps apologizing to decides to finally make him look like the blithering retard he is.

Liberals cannot be trusted with national security. They refuse to call Islamic terrorism by its name.

The bad news is that we will certainly be attacked by those who rightly view Barry as a lightweight amateur. The good news is that it will prevent his re-election and we can start to take terrorism seriously again.

And Janet Napolitano is simply the least intelligent public official ever to fumble her way through a federal job. I believe she suffers from some degree of brain damage. How did she get the job?

This post, and bin Laden photo, reminded me of an article I read a few days ago on-line interviewing former Rep. Charlie Wilson, who helped get us in there in the 1980s. I quote excerpts in the "for what its worth" category:

"Before it was Barack Obama's war, before it was George W. Bush's war, Afghanistan was Charlie Wilson's war.

And now, Wilson doesn't see much good happening in Afghanistan, even with 30,000 more U.S. troops...

"I feel like I would not be surprised if in two years we've taken a lot of casualties and spent a lot of money and don't have much to show for it."

Afghanistan, Wilson reminds us, is known as "the graveyard of empires" for its track record of defending against outside forces. Nevertheless, he believes the U.S. had to do what it did post-9/11...

Wilson fears Americans have unrealistic expectations about what Afghanistan can be.
"As far as I know, and I think I've read as much as there is to read about it, there has never been, and I use the word never — n-e-v-e-r — never been a strong central government in Afghanistan. It's valley to valley. And most of the different political viewpoints are based on some sort of religious parameters," Wilson said...

"If I were writing this, I would look back and look at Vietnam a little bit," he said. "I just don't see anything that's really encouraging. And I don't see anything that leads any way other than failure, although I very much hope that's not true."

Wilson knows the big difference between Vietnam and Afghanistan. We could and did walk away from Vietnam. Afghanistan could follow us home."

Who do you think your fooling?
Dent's operation need to be dismantled.

Please take the blind fold off of Dent's eyes. He can't see!

Barrack Hussein Obama is the blind fool.

Can't wait to hear his speech on this "man-caused disaster" attempt.

Who would have thought?

Another Muslim.

Another incident.

Maybe we have not reached out enough.

Maybe we have not apologized enough.

Time for another Obama apology tour?

Al Qaeda has come out and claimed responsibility.

It is only a matter of time before the Muslims succeed in making Barrack Hussein Obama and Janet Napolitano look like the utter morons they are.

Barack Obama said...

This attempted man-made, foreign contingency disaster was not terrorism.

Terrorism doesn't exist of you close your eyes real tightly and wish real hard that it goes away.

Everyone knows that Islamic radicals are really nice guys who are owed an apology by the US for putting up skyscrapers in the path of their peaceful aircraft.

Terrorism is a right wing construct. It doesn't exist under me.

"Al Qaeda has come out and claimed responsibility."

It's the CIA playing you for a fool. FOOL!

Get your hands out of my pocket.

All Republicans and Elite Democrats are the same.

The mouse that refused to go into the mouse trap!

Look, Just as this is not a pro-Dent piece, nor is it an anti-Obama opiece. This partisanship has to end.

It's partisan to question this administration's bumbling of this incident? it's partisan to ask why the moronic Napolitano said the system worked and the system failed miserably in the same interview? Good God. We're doomed.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Look at the comments. First, there are a bunch of cheap shots aimed at Dent, trying make light of the near death of over 250 innocent people. Then we have the slams at Obama, and of course, anti-Islamic bigotry.

On matters that threaten our own security and way of life, there's no need for all this hate. We would do well to remember we are all Americans, that brack Obama is our President, that charlie Dent ids the LV's Congressman. This divisive partisan bickering should stop at times like these.

Regardless of what you think about Napolitano, she is currently at the top of the list to replace Kennedy who may be retiring shortly from the Supreme Court. Napolitano should be in charge of the capital husecleaning department.
Is it any wonder why we are in trouble?
And then there is Gibbs. Oh well.
