Tomorrow, four Dieruff High School students have something different in mind. Here's what they say.
"We are Operation Troop Aid! and are raising money to send care packages to the U.S. troops who are stationed over seas. We are doing this as a graduation project for Dieruff High School and we would like to ask you to support us by coming to the car wash we are having and keeping in mind what our soldiers go through everyday. Being able to help make their lives a little easier is a privilege to us and it would be very satisfying to be able to send a good amount of supplies to them. Thank you for your support."
When: Sunday, September 23
Where: Auto Zone, 1871 S. 5th St. on the south side of Allentown
Who: Operation Troop Aid!
How Much: cars - $5.00, trucks & SUVs - $8.00
The team: Chelsea Farling, Ashlie Boyer, Kelsey Gallagher & Keelia Mailander

It's nice to see blogs about charity. I took a similar path Thursday.
We need more blogs about charity to fill the space between all the other miserable stuff we write about.
ask ron angle and john stoffa if they supports this charity, as they did not support the troops in their vote in northampton county council. funny how birds of a feather stick together.
The measure was vetoed because it is illegal. The woman who spoke about needing help at county council would not qualify under the ordinance as passed. What responsible members of council want to do is to adopt a measure that is a little more substantive.
Dertinger claimed he had amendments that would make the ordinance legal. Where are they? McClure's law and order committee met on Monday. Why weren't meaningful changes discussed?
The truth is this was just window dressing to make Dertinger and McClure look good. They don't give a shit about soldiers, as evidenced by the fact that neither spent a day in the military.
While you spit venom, Stoffa's admin is actually working on something that might actually hold up in court.
Some people are interested in doing the right thing while others play politics.
This is great but I know an 78 year old gentlemen who received notice his VA benefits were being cut. He is barely making ends meet now. WHAT A NATIONAl DISGRACE. Maybe this Nation needs another tax cut. Shame on US.
Bernie, I wonder if these same people who are hammering angle and stoffa for a ordinance that would help few were this vocal when our a proposal by Rendell to give the families of our serving pa troops some financial assitance was voted down. I believe this was a ballot question. I would have gladly supported a state measure, however, IMO any measures to help vets and serving military should come from the feds. Not every region has the financil means to provided assistance. I would gladly pay a small increase in my fed taxes. After all we should pay our Debts.
Sorry if this detracts from the original post. Please support all charities such as Troop Aid.
Husky Pride!
Bernie -
Any follow-up or pictures from the event? I'd love to copy them to my blog. I didn't get a chance to make it today, but I hope it turned out well!
AJ, I was with the little huskies in Bangor this afternoon, watching them take on Bangor, so I was unable to make it myself.
How much money was raised for OTA?
I'll find out and let you know.
Hello,
I am the EX Director of Operation Troop Aid. I was not contacted about this fund raiser and did not know about it until going thru Google hits today. Was any money raised? Please have someone contact me.

Mark, These are Dieruff High School girls. I don't think they knew they had to clear this with you first. Over the weekend, I'll track down the emails I received about this event from the mother of one of these young ladies, and will put you in contact with her. I'm sure that money was raised.
Hello, they did not have to clear it with me, I am greatful for what they have done and wanted to thank them and give them certificates of appreciation, and maybe set up some press coverage if possible. I just want to thank them, this is awesome.
Mark
