Who's Really Behind the Attacks on Our Power Grids?

Though he now claims he wants peace, Putin's actions tell a different story, This includes a Christmas Eve attack on a Kherson shopping district that left 8 people dead and 58 injured. It also includes nonstop missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure. I have to wonder about the increasing number of attacks aimed at our own power grids

On Christmas Day, four power stations were vandalized in Washington State, leaving 14,000 people without power. Authorities claim these attacks were coordinatedEarlier, shootings at two electrical substations in North Carolina left 40,000 without power for several days. There have also been "intrusions" in South Carolina, Hawaii, Oregon and Florida. Politico reports these power grid onslaughts are at their highest level since 2012.

These are just the physical attacks. In March, Texas utilities and energy producers went on high alert in March after detecting probes by Russian hackers looking for weak spots in digital systems. Ukrainians have been enduring a winter without electricity and water, thanks to Russian attacks. What we fail to realize is that our own power grid is vulnerable, too. The United States has yet to implement GAO recommendations to enhance the security of our energy grids. This is inexcusable and could end up costing lives.

Authorities believe anti-government extremists may be behind some of these attacks, noting online forums that actually encourage these attacks. That's certainly possible, I also believe it's certainly possible that some of these attacks are really coming from Russia and China. The extremists who actually pull the triggers are just their useful idiots.

I read the comments in a story online about this. It appears that the state is liberal so the majority of the people commenting assigned blame to the " libtards and dumbocrats". I thought you're close to Idaho which is big for guys playing army and that group of misshapen misfits the Bundys. So I'll dismiss their assertions.

Disconcerting news indeed. Russia and China seem to have every reason to attack us wherever they can find a crack in our armor. Ukraine is just the tip of the iceberg floating towards us. We must be vigilant if democracy is to survive. If we can help Ukraine.. we must also protect ourselves from any and all foreign intervention. Negotiations are useless at this point in time and we need to be more self sufficient. Forget that world economic bs! Democracy under fire from within and outside our borders. Trade with friends..not the enemy!

What if any , commonality with what powers them? Not knowing,I’m asking. Nuclear, coal or hydro ?

Of course, it must be Russia, when most likely it is some environmental fringe group, who believe electricity is polluting the environment. It is amazing how the narrative is just more incentive to go to all out war with Russia, I suppose the best thing would be to nuke them now, obviously they deserve it.

Are you going full on "Q"? " I also believe it's certainly possible that some of these attacks are really coming from Russia and China."

China declared war on the U.S. about 35 years ago and Americans still haven't figured that out and the Soviets didn't disappear when the Cold War "ended". With the Russia and China forming an alliance, they are possibly behind supporting both those far-left and far-right groups who, as you allude to, push the final buttons. The Alliance sees comrades in arms with those American anti-government groups.

Anti-government extremists fall into two broad categories; one hates the paper and one hates the people. One group hates the current establishment, way of government, and the Constitution as it stands now (far-left) and one hates the elected people who serve whom they believe are not following the Constitution as written (far-right). The Alliance is smart and surreptitious enough to spread information to further solidify discord within each group and encourage those domestic fringe groups into action.

What are we spending money on in lieu of upgrading security at these facilities? If the last bill is any indication, a lot of silly things that are nearly as important. Unless of course, our betters have already concluded there is no defense against these occurrences. That's not unreasonable. It's also disturbing.

It’s the lowlife, uneducated, gullible MAGA tools behind the attacks.

Put down the Putin pom popm. Recognition that Russia or China could be behind these attacks is consistent with what they've already been doing

This certainly could be the work of eco-terrorists. It could also be right-wing extremists. In February, three Ohio men pleaded guilty to providing material for an attack on our power grid in furtherance of a white supremacist ideology. They believed the disruption caused by a major blackout would lead to unrest and a possible race war. But it could just as easily be left-wing extremists. Violence is used by both. And in both cases, they could simply be useful idiots spurred on by Russian or Chinese operatives. They would do their best to keep their fingerprints as far away as they can, but recognition that our adversaries want to distract us is simple reality.

My point is that we need to harden our grids against these attacks. I doubt we will ever have sufficient evidence to justify a military response.

Double standoff fences needed and make inside fence hot with electric charge and hang cheap obstruction on inside fence to deflect a round . get good or better cameras hot wired. Domestic Operators from foreign entities a bit unlikely.

BernieOHare to Peter, those sound like good and relatively inexpensive ideas.

Unlikely it's environmentalists, or it would have been commonplace long ago. Doubt it's Russian or Chinese operatives when greater damage could be done with a computer hack.
I believe it's MAGA White Supremacist fringe members. The Proud Boys types with IQs equal to their weapons caliber.
One thing is certain. When anyone is caught it won't be just simple charges of "destruction of property," and the like. Homeland Security will take them and put them in one of those windowless high security facilities for the remainder of their lives.

Bernie if it turns out one of your boys you will probably cover it up because that is how you operate.

It's all speculation as to who is doing this. Assuming it's a specific political group frankly is insane. What it is... is again sick individuals and all that matters is how to stop it. Blaming a specific group just shows ignorance as it can be anyone. But securing our power grid should be a top priority. But we don't secure our borders so why does anyone think we will secure the power? We're to busy fighting to do productive things to keep us safe

Just some more Americans with unamericanisms running through there blood. It is probable that facci's nanobots are being manipulated attacking the poor slug actors to act upon false ideologues!

I susect green terrorists. This is consistent with their traditional m.o.. National Review is a joke, even among most conservatives. They're always wrong and are here, too. Watch domestic greens. Don't buy WWIII boogeymen being sold by war hawk progressives.

Initially, maybe just a bunch of dumb yahoos up to no-good and later attacks by malcontent copy-cats.
