Has Omicron Peaked?

Steve Thode, who is keeping track of the COVID-19 data for this blog, is reporting that the Omicron variant might finally be on the way out. Here's his latest.

Today, Lehigh reported the lowest number of one-day new COVID cases (368) as did NorCo (351) since December 27. It would appear that we may be past the peak. However, I'm not ready to call the peak just yet.

Daily new COVID cases have varied widely the past few days, suggesting to me that some large testing organizations may not be reporting their data daily.

The most recent 7-Day New Case peak for Lehigh/NorCo occurred on January 12 at 17,266 new cases; the 7-Day New Case rate as of today stands at 13,127.

By the end of the week, I may be ready to make a call.

Then, it will be time check on death rates.

The entire pandemic narrative has peaked. We have now entered the backpedaling phase. Or, maybe it’s the tap dancing act.

There is a certain ebb and flow to everything. In this situation as the cases get higher people start to get more cautious thereby reducing the transmissions. People were willing to accept more risk over the holidays thereby driving up the repercussions in the weeks after. Hence we have seen the elevation in case rates.

Now that they are high we are seeing people reduce their risk exposure which in turn will decrease the numbers again. At some point the perceived transmission risk will be low enough for a vast majority of people to accept risky behavior again. And the cases will increase.

This is kind of the pendulum theory applied to transmission.

I believe Omicrone will leave the general public with Hurd Immunity as it has replaced Delta variant. The mutations may be making Omicrone variant less virulent. This is happening at a relatively high ratio. I m going to vote for a Decline and that people infected were inoculated per se and leave them better off .

God hope not, need to keep this going at least until after the election.

Had the former guy not lied & lied, denied and golfed, we might have been in a different place!

Considering you have a hard time getting tested and people don't want to stand in line and can't get home tests I am afraid the numbers are probably not very accurate. And don't worry about another variant. The WHO already said it will come. Politicians have nothing to worry about there.

Could we give it up on the never ending bashing of the former guy! We had four years of it must it continue forever? This pandemic was no one's fault unless it was made in a lab. The Pandemic was overdue. At least could we focus on where it came from and give up the bashing. It's really getting old.

We must never forget about former guy. He placed 234 judges to the federal bench and 3 Supreme Court justices. Trump’s influence on the nations13 federal appeals courts will have a major impact on this country for decades. Plus Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Barrett who will be on our Supreme Court for decades, wow. Let’s go after abortion laws, tax reform plan - to reward corporations and the very wealthy the most. We will be living under this tyrants rule for many decades so we should never forget these dark times and bash the former guy and his family forever. BTW - he is to blame for his delivery effort to downplay the pandemic for political purposes which caused 500,000 deaths.
