Reminder: LWV to Host Congressional Forum on May 2 at NCC

League of Women Voter VP Beverly Hernandez has asked me to post a new flyer concerning the Congressional candidates's forum. All Democrats and one Republican, Dean Browning, will attend. The other Republican in the Congressional race, Marty Nothstein, has said No. As I told you on April 13, Nothstein has called the League of Women Voters a "partisan, liberal organization allied with the interests of the Democratic party." He has accused this good government group of "meddling in Congressional politics" because of its involvement, as a Plaintiff, in an astonishingly successful effort to derail the partisan gerrymandering that is going on in the land of midnight payraises.

Republicans are currently the beneficiaries of a broken system in which legislators choose the voters, but that could change in a heartbeat. The Democratic Supreme Court already imposed its own map. If Democrats gain control in Harrisburg, as they might, they will start gerrymandering. The best solution for everyone is precisely what the League of Women Voters has advocated, an independent commission made up of nonpoliticians. I agree that it is impossible to remove politics completely, but this independent group would remove most of it.

After my story appeared, Morning Call columnist Bill White picked up on it, too. He claims Nothstein is:
• A candidate who is willing to throw one of our country's most-respected good-government organizations under the bus to justify his political decision to duck a debate.

• A candidate who is indulging in the same kind of fact-resistant rhetoric and reckless finger-pointing that we've seen far too much of in Washington.

• A candidate who has decided to engage in the politics of division at a time when we need people with the courage to reach across the aisle.

• A candidate who is passionately defending a congressional map that so many Pennsylvanians and others around the country found appalling.
According to Republican activist Ed White, NorCo GOP boss "General" Lee Snover had commanded the Republican Congressional candidates to boycott the debate. .

I really am starting to wonder whether Lee is actually a Democrat. She alienated Charlie Dent to the point where he decided against seeking re-election, even though no Democrat could ever beat him. She then began backing the worst possible replacement, opportunist Justin Simmons. She was so caught up about her love for the Donald and what is happening this year that she basically ignored Republicans seeking county office. Result? They lost control of both Council and the Executive.

Like a good little boy, Nothstein listened to Snover's brilliant advice. Dean Browning rejected her directive. He'd prefer to make his own mistakes rather than repeat hers.

Gee, 6 Republican and Trump hating primary candidates v. 1 Republican. Can't believe that Browning signed up for this lop sided farce.

Nothstein has accomplished more in his lifetime than O'Hare could in 10 lifetimes. He is entitled to his opinion about the increasingly partisan LWV.

Bernie O'Hare said...

You tell 'em, General Lee.

Nothstein knows better than to debate Browning publicly. He is going to keep taking maximum donations from establishment Republicans and many who are linked to the Democrats and try to win on name recognition and false conservative policy claims. He's exactly what he claims to be against.

Accomplishment has nothing to do with anything. He's a vitriolic ideologue who seeks to continue this Republican nastiness and partisanship. Regardless of what he has accomplished, he's showing himself as a weasel.

Where I am in the mountain I only got literature from John Morganelli ... The problem where I live is not part of the 7th Congressional District ... Where I am is in the 9th Congressional district ... And a couple of candidates 1 on the D side and 1 on the R side whom were going to run for Congress in the 15th are now running up here ... But I haven't heard from them and the only signs I have seen up here are small signs for Governor....

The big issue right now in East Penn Township in Carbon County is SynAGro's possible dumping of BioSolids ( sewerage Sludge containing human and hospital waste on farm land ...Many property owners up are here are displaying signs against this prospect .... The fear is, water run off into Lizard Creek and the Lehigh River, seepage into well water and possible odor problems containing toxic materials in it ....

Now no one knows from where these BioSolids are really coming from ... Clients are many Wastewater Treatment Systems from Pennsylvania and other states ... Philadelpia, Harrisburg , Bethlehem and Lehigh County Authority are some of the clients...

As a former resident of Allentown and soon to be a former property owner in Allentown, I don't want this sludge dumped up here causing problems with water run-off that would possibly bring about EPA edicts, possibly degrade our well water and possibly enhance what ever historic odor there might be during the process of fertilizing the field whether naturally or chemically other then it might be without using human waste which may have toxic hospital and bacterial waste included....

Sorry, but the League is a partisan group and simply not appropriate for a Republican primary debate.

Don't take my word for it, go to their website and look at the stance on immigration, among other issues. Not a word about securing the border and stopping illegal immigration. But an awful lot about re-uniting families and providing workers for businesses (to take jobs from Americans).

The real question isn't why Nothstein wouldn't participate. It's why Browning would.

12:29 is what is wrong with the discourse in this country. Always looking for a partisan reason to shun opposing views and groups of people not exactly like themselves. You can't run away from over half the country that aren't Repubs. Remember, Hillary Clinton, the most hated politician of our lifetime won the popular vote by 3 million votes. Keep running away from fellow Americans.

WFMZ had a story about how they can't find ag worker's in Berks County. Trump has been pretty successful in demonizing the migrant workers who do this work. Perhaps the US workers displaced by these people would like to do this work. Mushroom farm work is real fun.
