Allentown City Council Tells Feds to Get the Lead (and Fed Ed) Out

By a 5-2 vote, Allentown City Council has this evening adopted a resolution calling on federal authorities to conclude, one way or another, their two-year long investigation of political corruption in Allentown. "We've had this cloud now for two years," said Candida Affa. "We're being held hostage with this."  Daryl Hendricks added that the citizens of Allentown are being deprived of  "open and honest" government. "Remove the cloud hanging over our city, " he said.

The measure was opposed by Julio Guridy and Roger MacLean "Investigations don't always go as fast or as smoothly as you want," said MacLean, a 40-year law enforcement veteran and former police chief. "There's gotta' be reason, and I know it's a good reason, why it is taking so long." Guridy said it would be ignored by federal investigators who will say, ""Who are you guys from the little city of Allentown to tell us what to do?"

Interestingly, no member of the public spoke, either in support of or against the resolution.

The resolution provides that allegations over the past two years "continue to bring the City into disrepute and continue to create a negative work environment making it difficult to effectively conduct city business." It finds that "the length of time and delay of indicting or exonerating Edwin Pawlowski is a disservice to the citizens of Allentown, robbing a majority of residents of any possibility of respectful governance so long as the allegations hang over Mr. Pawlowski."

Copies of this resolution are being provided to the FBI, US Attorney's office and to Judge Juan Sanchez. That will give him something to think about next time the feds attempt to delay a sentencing.

Updated 8:55 pm: This report is based on watching the video of the meeting in progress. I was there in spirit, but not in body.

Let this investigation run its course ,We have no idea who Mr.Pawloski will give up working out his plea deal

The Feds will place this resolution in their special circular file.

I believe the resolution will make a difference bc a copy is going to Judge Sanchez. I think he was largely unaware how much the delay has hurt Allentown, and will likely force the feds to come up with a timetable next time they want to delay a sentencing.

Please God end this reign of terror.

Impatience .... I wonder how well their pasts would hold up to scrutiny, given they all supported Ed in the past ?

Their pasts have held up to two years of scrutiny.

I'm sure the investigation will continue until something is found.

Won't they be pissed if the feds exonerate him....... I know you will be Bernie

Let the feds go. Every time they close a door, a new one pops up. I agree with Bernie that Federal District Judge Juan Sanchez doesn't probably know how the delaying tactics utilized by the Justice Department hurt the City of Allentown. However, most of the people do not know the depths of "Fed Ed's" participation in this lattice of corruption he has sewed. This was an intricate scheme concocted by his majesty King Ed and co-conspirator Michael Fleck. Unraveling it and transposing the findings for a jury is an arduous task. But, I'm truly confidant that the Justice Department/FBI, under Judge Sanchez's guidance, will permanently put this case to rest, by indicting him, successfully prosecuting him and putting him away for a long time because of his lack of remorse, honesty and self-preservative defiance.

Did Ed kill anyone ?

Ed should sue council for obstruction of Justice. They are trying to influence an investigation that must evolve at it's own pace, regardless of how glacial that may be. Fed Ed has rights. He may be a weasel, but not a criminal. So council should let the process work out and meanwhile do its job to help run A-town.

Patience is a virtue, and like many other things that are representative of integrity your stature lacks. Being a crook is the least of your issues?
See ya next time around in one of the circles of hell for those deplorables that are not even except able there! hahaha

Ed, like his managing director, Fran, and his political fixer, Fleck, is a criminal.
Yes.
Mrs. Pawlowski is also a criminal.

Ed goes off to work each day knowing 90% of City Hall, the APD and AFD think he's a lying neck less rodent.
That takes a special kinda guy.

The more I watch the city Council meetings online the more I realize that they are a bunch of clueless people with the possible exception of Julio Gurudy who spreads himself too thin and can't be effective. O'Connell is all talk. MacLean is lazy and disjointed. Hendricks is all talk. Mota is in way over her head. Alfa can be good when she wants to. McGuire is a whacko.

8:15 It's the voters that matter. I know that the vocal Pawlowski-haters all come here to whine and bitch about the mayor. Ed knows where his supporters are and how to get them into the voting booth. Pawlowski has a big advantage that he's a democrat and most of the immigrants and welfare-state voters in the city are democrats. Many of them have limited educations and literacy so it's easier for them to just vote straight-party votes. They think that the Republicans are all like Trump and it's been drilled into their heads by that same democratic party in the news that Trump is the devil incarnate.

Hyman is a republican, so he must be like Trump and take away their welfare and obamaphones and snap cards and rent assistance checks and the milk that they buy their babies.

That's what's been drilled into their heads for decades by the Democrats, so why in hell would they vote for Hyman? He's some rich white guy that lives out in the West End with his country club buddies and not one of the "real" Allentonians that live in 100-year old homes as most of the city does. They can't identify with Hyman , but they'll vote for Ed because he's the democrat and he's the one that comes around shaking their hands, kissing their babies and going to the doughnut shop openings and home parties.

Sorry Bernie, that's how things work in Allentown. This isn't Nazareth.

Why do you think that Pawlowski opened up that Immigration assistance office? To get the Hispanic vote, that's why. More and more voters in Allentown are Hispanics. He'll be out there in the Puerto Rican day parade and kissing babies.

Hyman will likely be playing a round in Saucon Valley or wherever he plays golf, bitching that Pawlowski can't build a swimming pool in the west end.

That's how to get votes Matt. campaigning from your golf cart.

Pawlowski is certainly a crook. But these idiots should pipe down after letting him run amok for years. Perhaps it's time for the FBI to start investigating them.

Allentown is a national punch-line.

Mayor Pawlowski has never been charged with a crime. The haters keep on hating and love this blog. Don't let the facts distort your own vile reality.

Anonymous said...

Mayor Pawlowski is going to the fucking state pen.

Anonymous said...

Bernie why do you think the judge is allowing the govt to postpone the sentencing hearings?

Bernie O'Hare said...

That is bc they want to delay until after these defendants testify against Fed Ed.

Anonymous said...

Why can't they just sentence the people who pled guilty and then have them testify?

Bernie O'Hare said...

Because those who plead will get special consideration for their cooperation.

Anonymous said...

Ok I get it now. Do you think they will reward them by letting them walk?

Bernie O'Hare said...

I think several should walk, regardless of their truthful cooperation. Mary Ellen Koval, who wrote a letter or two on behalf of contributors, did so to boards over which she had no authority. This is not "official action" as that term is defined in the McDonnell case. And Hadad admitted his guilt almost immediately and was more of an extorted victim than an actual briber. Dougherty's sentence is almost certainly dependent on his truthful cooperation, but he Fleck, Wiles and Strathearn will all go to jail.

why wouldn't koval pull her guilty plea due to the change in law?

Bernie O'Hare said...

She probably could, but how much money does she have? Can she afford a trial? Unfortunately, justice costs money unless you are completely broke.

Anonymous said...

How is Pawlowski going to afford a trial? Do you think his lawyer is defending him for free?

Anonymous said...

Allentown is a joke.

Hey Bernie one of the Fleck political consultant crew is involved in the Norco races.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Those people were sceeed by Fleck and should not be tainted by him. Try that smear somewhere else.

Anonymous said...

Oh Oh, that means they are now representing a politician you like.lol

Bernie O'Hare said...

This consultant has represented several candidates I dislike. My point has nothing to do with whomever she represents. My point is that she was a victim of Miked Fleck. And I at this point, I plan to support the best candidate from either party and that likely will not include this consultant 's candidate. In the meantime, you should be a little more concerned about how you plan to explain Brown's decision to double our taxes for a new jail.
