It's his reaction to yesterday's post about Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, who takes free meals from at least one publicly subsidized restaurant, while stiffing their servers.
LáZorro (with an á, damn it!) even wrote it in English!
The Mayor’s snub of two waitresses is a perfect metaphor for his snub of the entire community who put him in office. That includes us - the Latino community. He promised his administration would diversify - from its police force to its public services - to reflect the community. But he continues to appoint the same people who have failed to solve Allentown's problems. When we have taken him to task, his response is “I cannot find anyone”.
When he enlisted my help - very early in his tenure - I sent him a list of names. But he instead installed political lackeys. He has mistreated even those closest to him during his campaign. His “unnamed” Latino lawyer buddy, who went to bat for him throughout the campaign, was passed over as solicitor. And how about his buddy Fred Bañuelos (that’s with an ñ, damn it!). He worked with him for years with the Alliance for Building Communities, but the mayor threw him under a LANTA bus, like a professional bowler.
I won’t even go into how he lobbed the whole community under the bus, no pun intended (it is intended actually), when he would not speak up for them or do anything about LANTA’s disruption of necessary bus services. Of course, he flip-flopped when the tide turned after a steady barrage of criticism (with a little help from your friends, ;-). Pawlowski is a legend in his and his contractor buddies' minds, but is no hero to Allentown's working poor. In the words of the young girl in distress in the Latin series El Chapulin Colorado, “Y ahora quien podra ayudarnos” or “Now who will come to our rescue...”

Most or much of what this fellow says negatively about the mayor may be true, but he really had little choice with respect to his choice of Mr. Banuelos. He had to remove his name from consideration and ethnicity had little to do with it. My only problem with this issue is that the mayor did not discover that his choise for this position was a delinquent landlord before he submitted his name for consideration. Not everything is about race.
Laz better get his people registered then because his numbers don't add up.

Pawlowski knew this fellow for many years. They worked together. Do you think he may have known about those code violations when he nominated him, and was just hoping no one would notice? But for Muschick's article, the dude would have sailed into office.

The latino population in Allentown does not vote. Until they do they will continue to have a small voice.
Pawlowski has nothing to worry about. He will be re-elected easily. The Sheep of Allentown are so ignorant they'd vote for Attilla the Hun. The Hispanics don't vote, and don't even bother registering. Those that do vote would vote for Pawlowski even if he personally shot one of them dead, or ran over one or two with his city car. You are right about one very important fact. I don't matter. That's the point. I am very happy about that fact. There are many real Leaders out there doing... every day. I am hardly doing much in the area - personally - this organization has 12 Board Members and many committee members that do the work.

Mr. O'Hare, the fact that you can track ISP, IP and latitude and longitude is hardly impressive; any high school hacker can do the same. Additionally, your equation, lagata8484 = triviaplenum is both incorrect and irrelevant.
The fact is I have read many of Mr. Fuentes's remarks to LaGata8484 (and many others), and I find them to be quite arrogant and insulting. I was particularly enraged about the flip, ill-considered, callous analogy to slavery that Mr. Fuentes used, and that prompted MY response.

The fact is that you believe we are one and the same, simply because our posts come from the same general location, but that is a silly assumption. Did it ever occur to you that perhaps we have an affiliation? Maybe we are spouses, roommates, college roommates, housemates, good friends who get together on weekends and holidays for a kaffee klatsch, or merely acquaintances!

Please note that that is precisely what drove me to respond in the first place; that is purely VILE!
My identity and that of LaGata8484, even if they were one and the same, have absolutely no relevance to the issues at hand. 1. As relates to me... you think that I consider myself a leader. I do not. You do! That is telling. I just lead. You do not have to follow. But the people obviously do. I did not ask to become the Chair of this organization [I founded the organization and refused the Chair position when they all wanted me to take it the first two years] - I was asked to become Chair again... by unanimous decision of our Board as a way to sweep aside the errors of the previous leadership.
2. As relates to this community.
"Community" is a word that is very specific. It is about coming together, not about shutting people out. Your friends in the Latino Community are not the full compendium of thought for the Latino community. We have never shut any of them out. Instead, we have invited them over and over to be part of the organizational or intellectual thinking for this community... yes "COMMUNITY." These people do not care for COMMUNITY. They run around self-serving trying to take and get things for themselves before anyone else... like cannibals. They kill for titles for little jobs and little contracts and grants.
We are inclusive. They are divisive.
We are positive. They are negative.
We defend the people. They betray the people.
We preach self sufficiency. They hold their hands and lower their heads begging.
We glorify achievement. They glorify staying in place and the barrio mentality that invades their souls.
We inspire our members to be better. They inspire their members to live on welfare.
I can do this all day long, so I will stop here. :)
3. As regards the Hispanic Chamber. The HCCLV is an organization that has brought together its members, so that they can meet each other - simply that at first; so that they can relate with each other - the getting to know you process; so that they do not feel that they are alone - the natural support system develops; so that they can be inspired by the various levels of achievement in THEIR part of the community.
Yes... we have spent a lot of time just getting to know each other.
Yes... we have had to deal with some of the bad apples that wanted to bring their OLD ways into our NEW organization.
Yes... that held us up for a year.
But now we are a group that has that nonsense behind it. Now we are a group that is clearly going after the prize and bringing benefits to our members.
We had to get our numbers up again after losing nearly half of our members to the welfare mentality of the past... Well now we have more than tripled them. Now we have the corporations again interested in us. Now they see leadership that is positive and that has BUY IN from the entire community - NOT THE FEW WHO CONSIDER THEMSELVES "THE COMMUNITY."
You will see as we announce over the coming weeks the biggest changes in the history of the Latino community of the Lehigh Valley. Now is the time. Not when incompetents like you - harborers of the divisiveness and welfare of the past - the worst of our community - those that with the comfort of being inside leave the rest outside in the cold to toil try to hold back those that do... that are trying to take the community to a new and better place. This is our time. All are welcome. Even you... whoever you are. Even David or Eduardo or Fred or Erlinda or any that want to be a part. You see... it is not about Lazaro. It is about the COMMUNITY. Lazaro is simply not going to tolerate any part of the past infesting the future. You can bet your ass on that one. You can also bet your ass that I can take any of them on, on my free time and more. Just as I suspected, Mr. Fuentes, your response has very little to do with the issues, and quite a bit to do with ego.
I said absolutely nothing about race. Even if I were white, or Asian, I could have, and would have, brought you to task for trivializing slavery, which is exactly what you did. Just as I am not Jewish, but I call Mr. O'Hare out for trivializing the Holocaust.
Furthermore, Mr. Fuentes, if you can blithely comment that the lives of house slaves was somehow more tolerable to the lives of field slaves, simply for the sake of making a point, then as I said, it is a subject that you'd be better off to avoid until you have further educated yourself.

What about all these references to community? What were you doing, answering my "husband?" I wrote a very short and sweet post to you, with four direct and pointed issues. You've misconstrued two, and left the others unanswered. Diatribe? Perhaps, but certainly not on MY part.

1) Neither of you has the SLIGHTEST idea who I am, nor who my "husband" is, and because of that, you're making all kinds of wild assumptions and attacks. It's wiser to defend from a known position than unknown, old soldier - take a page from Sun Tzu: "Hence that general is skillful in attack whose opponent does not know what to defend; and he is skillful in defense whose opponent does not know what to attack." Be a skillful general, and know WHAT to defend, dear.
2) Not knowing who we are is causing you to go off on a wild and rambling tangent, i.e. all this talk of the old guard, what they represent, and so on. Trust me, I am not, nor have I ever been part of any of your Latino organizations. Also, trust me, I have worked in and with the Latino community for quite some time. Community? I know it well.
3) Not for nuttin', Mr. Fuentes, but what is all this about your Ivy league associations? I'm no respecter of persons, sir. For all you know, I, too, have Ivy league associations. Perhaps I have a degree from an Ivy league university. Perhaps I graduated magna cum laude, and perhaps I have a masters degree as well. Perhaps I am a genius, even. Perhaps I have United States Army affiliations, sir. Perhaps I know officers, say Lieutenant Colonels (baby birds), Colonels (full birds), and Generals (up to the four star variety). Perhaps... but all that matters not one whit. One does not have to be any of those things or have any of those things to make a difference, sir, and so, I am NO respecter of persons. Actions speak louder than words.
