At least the natives in the Caribbean had the good sense to cannibalize the Italian sailor Verrazano, who, sailing for the Spanish Crown, was the first European to meet & describe "our" Indians, the Lenape (AKA Lenni Lenape or Delaware), when he met their kinsmen in what is today New York Bay. Too bad the Native Americans who met Columbus didn't have a similar appetite...what a funny twist in "Manifest Destiny" that would have been, eh?
