Yesterday, I reported on Wednesday evening's City Council meeting in Easton. I believe it was actually the most significant local government meeting to have taken place over the past several years. Not because body cam video was played. Not because it embarrasses Easton City Council member Taiba Sultana. This meeting stood out to me because Chief Carl Scalzo finally gave a full-throated defense of what local police officers do and how much people like him care.
Personal integrity means very little to most of us, but it matters a great deal to a good cop. Years ago, I remember interviewing Upper Nazareth Police Chief Alan Siegfried when he ran (unsuccessfully) for Magisterial District Judge in Nazareth. I forget exactly what I asked him, but I'll never forget his steely blue eyes when he told me he'd never lie for anyone. That's a good cop. I've seen that same attitude in most other police officers.
Of course, a police officer who breaks the law should be vigorously prosecuted. But we've tarnished them all with movements like "Defund the Police!" or Allentown's "Fuck the police!" demonstration, led by a convicted felon on the basis of information that proved to be incorrect. Instead of admonishing this thug, his nonprofit has been showered with state and federal grants from "leaders" who have refused to stand up for the people who actually keep you safe at night.
Easton Police Chief Carl Scalzo stood up for his own at Wednesday evening's City Council meeting. Mayor Sal Panto and Council member Frank Pintabone did so as well. I think it's important to let you read for yourself what Chief Scalzo had to say as 10 uniformed police officers stood quietly in the back of the room.

Thank you for this. I’ve long wondered why local law enforcement always quotes that the law says they must make an arrest when there is alleged domestic violence when there is no such law. After reading this it appears that there was a policy put in place by the DA’s office at some point “requiring” arrest.
Local policy is not law, contrary to what the chief says. But at least I have an answer and explanation now.
It is curious though, am I to understand that the policy “requires” the less visibily injured person to be arrested regardless of other circumstances?
First of all, 10,000 thumbs up for Chief Scalzo's service and dedication. He is a real leader and manager of men and woman and obviously takes great pride in his department and his profession.
He was quite polite and eloquent as he fact by fact showed the true colors of sultana and baratta, thus proving them both dead wrong.
It appears that Chief Scalzo has more integrity in his little finger that these two so-called officials will ever obtain.
I trust that the real citizens of Easton will support their police department. Hopefully they will use common sense and eventually rid themselves of the stain on council by voting the hateful and self-centered sultana off of council and not vote for her for any other office.
I know it won't happen, but council should censor sultana and she should resign immediately.
This won't happen either because of baretta's ego, but he should publicly and in writing apologize the entire Easton Police Department.
Both sultana and baratta have proven that they are not worthy or honest enough to be third assistant deputy animal control officer, much less hold the positions they have.
Scalzo and Panto are those who are easily offended and show racist tendencies. The city of Easton, including its Police Department, has faced 2,000 accusations and lawsuits without any resolution. Despite claiming not to engage in political games, they are attempting to prove otherwise. What started as a family issue was blown out of proportion by labeling Taiba as a "Crazy" woman. However, the video evidence demonstrates her respectful and cooperative behavior with the police, even in the face of unjust arrest for political motives. The Easton Police Department lacks integrity and owes Taiba and her family an apology.
Taiba deserves admiration for not succumbing to their political theatrics. The attempt to release footage to "rebuild trust" in the mayor and police department is ironic. Frank Pintabone was not held accountable for lying, despite a grand jury asked his resignation. Their racism is evident in their disrespectful treatment of Taiba's remarks on the legacy of Breonna Taylor and other victims of police brutality. Pintabone is sold out with the hands-on police department and the Panto administration, betraying the messages of the organization, “fuck the police” he received an endorsement from.
Taiba will crush the empty suit back bencher Bob Freeman in the race, when she does #BrownGirlMagic will be trending on X.

EPD didn't ask for any of this. They were called. If you don't want interaction with the racist chief, racist mayor, and racist city, perhaps they shouldn't be called to your abode.
Calling Chief Scalzo or Mayor Panto racist is the lowest of the low. Only the foulest of slithering reptiles would make that charge.
I don't interact with local law enforcement, because my family doesn't inflict bloody damage on each other, and then call the cops to sort it out. Weird how that works, huh?

The Chief is a stand up guy. These officers did their job the way they were supposed to. It’s about time every decent person starts pushing back against these radical assholes who don’t want a free and fair exchange of ideas because they lose the argument every time. I find the Easton Police to be extremely fair, non biased and good Stewart’s of law enforcement. Wish they cared a tad more about “public nuisance” complaints such as loud music, illegal fireworks, etc, cause this things drive the amazing residents away.. anyhow off topic, stop with your exaggerated numbers and fake info!

I saw the same behavior at the South Side Civic forum with Bob Freeman. My guess is she used AI to write her opening statement and then scrolled through to read the same passages as the topics came up during the Q&A session. She was obviously not prepared to think on her feet.
First, Scalzo giving BarRATa a pass was very high road of him, but it allowed the DA to slither away virtually unscathed. Second, I am neither black, nor Muslim, but if I were, I would be quite offended to have people like Sultana and her husband representing my ethnicity and faith. A vote for her is a bit condoning lies and abuse.
