Did US Secret Service Aid the January 6 Attempted Coup?

We all know that Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Trump White House aide, testified that Trump was apoplectic when Secret Service agents refused to drive him to the capitol on January 6. She was relying on what she had been told by two agents, one of whom was in the President's SUV. No sooner had she finished testifying than right wing news sources were claiming Hutchinson was incorrect and secret service agents were ready to set the record straight. But we now also know that a DC police officer who was part of the motorcade has corroborated at least some of what Hutchinson had to say. Even more disturbing, it appears that the Secret Service deleted text messages in January 5 and 6, after they had been requested by the Select Committee. Most worrisome of all is that the Secret Service attempted to whisk VP Mike Pence away on January 6.  Were they trying to keep him safe or did they want him out of the way so that there could be no certification of the vote count? While I believe the Secret Service almost certainly acted honorably, Caesar's wife must be beyond reproach.

I absolutely agree with you. As they say, something is very, very wrong in Denmark.

Attempted coup is a joke. you may see an attempted coup one day, but Jan.6 wasnt it. The only recent attempted coup was the Russian collusion hoax that attempted to force Trump from office.
Bernie, you know better than this, is the democrat playbook so important to risk diminishing your credibility.

While I'm not willing to go so far as to say the SS was complicit in the coup attempt by trying to take away Pence, I would not at all be surprised that they are trying to protect Trump's damning behavior in that car from being corroborated.
Destroying the vital info from those 2 critical days puts any denial of Trump's behavior and statements into doubt. Those agents should be fired at the very least and charged with evidence tampering.

Of course they didn't delete those J5 and J6 messages. They were simply and conveniently "lost" in a scheduled tech migration of cellphone data. Nothing to see here.

Why haven't we heard from Ray Epps? Even WaPo has now interviewed him (sympathetically, strangely for a documented insurrectionist). He's on video in DC on 1/5 and 1/6. He was encouraging crowds to march to and ENTER the Capitol. He was present at the Proud Boys breach point. What's the story with this dude and why isn't he front and center being questioned?

Pence may have been aware of Trump zealots among his Secret Service detail. Reportedly, he trusted his lead agent not to drive him away, but also told that agent, "You won't be the one behind the wheel."
I'm not a big fan of Pence, but the man will be remembered in the history books as one who saved our Republic. While Trump attempted a coup and took no action, Pence made the calls to get reinforcements to quell the rioters, refused to run, and ultimately followed the Constitution.
It may be the fact that Trump, having realized his coup attempt failed with reinforcements arriving to protect the Capital, only then put out his video telling his idiot followers to go home.

Our Secret Service is a disaster and has been for years. It's safest to assume the worst when discussing these pathetic clowns .....

Yes they did! Why would anyone plead the 5th? Why would anyone delete text messages?

While the world is collapsing and domestic situation is deteriorating, it is ironic that some are obsessed with a fake hearing, with no opposing witnesses, edited video, and no semblance of a real legal process.

No wonder the country is collapsing with most not even taking notice.

Certainly doesn't pass the smell test. History has many examples of this behavior bubbling up in organizations like the secret service.

Most certainly did.

There are so many levels to this.

First the secret service are in a tough place because any dissention gets them immediately removed from their duty station. But on top of that those who are closet to guarding a president are in a position to give their life in lieu of the presidents. Thereby they often are avid supporters of the position almost to the point that whoever is in the position can do no wrong and they will follow with a blinds eye.

That being said all it takes is a few in the group who provide direction and give the orders to be loyalists. With the right people being absolute followers and doing the bidding they can direct others to follow orders. I have seen it in the military and there are well documented cases across many organizations.

As far as deleting message I am making a major guess here that there were three types of messages deleted. One being those which were truely incriminating of supporters and preplanners. There were the types from those who were not happy with what was going on and are fearing that they will get strung out because they did not speak out loudly and by that supported the operation. Then there were the rumor mill texts which we all do but in an after the fact scenario can put you and those who you were messaging in a very bad position one way or the other. Regardless I think that because they deleted them after they were called for those who deleted them should at least be tried for tampering with evidence. And jsut the plain stupidity of not deleting something at mission complete. Post mission purges are done for a reason.

As far as whisking Mike Pence away. I will give them a pass on this at face value because that is their job. The Secret Service is not for Senators or House officials it is only for the VP and P. So I chalk that up to just doing their job.

I will caveat it though that if they were preplanning a deliberate escape prior to the event with knowledge of impending scenarios we would need to know more about their information. It would put them in a bad light however.

I do remember reading in something 2 or 3 days before J6 that their was a credible threat of violence and storming the capital which the security world was told to dismiss and bury. I wish I saved some of that as it would help me with clarity.

When Republicans take both houses in six months, THOSE hearings are really gonna be lit. The best part of switching Congress in the middle of this will be finally getting the other side of the story.

I don't give a hoot about Trump or this Jan. 6 committee, but as this BOH conspiracy speculation festers and boils, I thought "deleted" E-mails were never really "deleted." Why don't the geniuses in the House or DOJ take the necessary steps to retrieve them?

" finally getting the other side of the story."
No need to wait.
trump can grow a pair and testify--nothing stopping him.
Hillary can lend him her's if he too much a snowflake

All parts of our government are so corrupt. I doubt if it will ever become on the up and up.

The secret service should have said nothing, nor be involved in the hearings.
Not that trump and his thugs deserve any mercy.
The President has to trust his protection detail to protect --not be a potential witness or spy.
The problem is that some agents have offered to testify-they should have said nothing.
Now that they babbled they should try it again under oath.
Otherwise they are not credible.
The person who did testify under oath has credibility--not some yahoo who claims different.

@2:30 - the other side of the story is well documented and several elected officials are going to jail!

Hey after reading a variety of headlines and articles I just had a flash thought. Could it be that Trump keeps repeating what is commonly referred to as the big lie because he is completely off his marbles because he was told but some group that they had fixed the election for him and guaranteed he would remain in office. But the reality turned out to be those who promised could not actually get a way with it. Therefore he is wandering around in some delirium state mutter the same rhetorical crap over and over. Remember those who are truly insane will never be corrected away from their last great thought. They cannot be argued with reasons with r convinced otherwise. All they do it repetitively repeat what they were so sure of thereby his repeated mumblings of the election was rigged really is a self condemnation of another one of his failures.

2:30 what other side? We've heard from nothing but repubs. Trumpers at that.

To those of you who keep complaining about no republicans on the investigative committee, remember that McCarthy would not allow members to join the committee. If I throw a party and I invite you and you decide not to come it's not my fault when you miss out on the festivities. Repeating lies doen't magically make them true. Grow up and take responsibility for your party and your crass atytacks on our republic.

Red Herring. I doubt they are truly deleted anyway. We've been told no one in the circle liked Trump now we are being told the secret service is abetting him? I don't buy it.

Anonymous 8:09: The hearings are fall campaign ads for Democrats and the media is giving them free advertising time. Any statement that doesn't fit the approved campaign ad language is simply ignored. It's a kangaroo court.

7:27. I think, you’re correct. I doubt that deleted messages ever stay deleted. Even you and I can’t really delete messages. Back-ups have back-ups have back-ups. I’m sure the Secret Service could find them if it should be to their advantage.

Either way, the world was in a much better place under Trump. Sorry but it is TRUE.

This is a lie. Pelosi wanted veto power over the opposition party members. You continue the kangaroo kourt narrative by continuing to make shit up. You are patheic. Even those right-wing radical insurrectionists at NPR say so .... ass ....

And yet trump(stable genius)who claims" I know words. I have the best words" is too much a snowflake to testify.
trump would have a great opportunity to show the world how he did not try to overturn an election. Or explain what he did to fight for Democracy.
Who would dare to cut the donald off while testifying?
trump could lay out his plans and actions to eager listeners, He could get standing ovations for his selfless love of the American way.
trump lacks the courage to do so.
