Wanted: One NorCo Elections Registrar

In response to questions from Council member John Cusick, Executive Lamont McClure acknowledged  that Northampton County has thus far failed to find an elections registrar to fill the slot left vacant by Amy Cozze's resignation.  Chief Deputy Amy Hess has assumed the role of Acting Registrar until the county is able to find a suitable candidate. He added that Hess will administer the May primary.

McClure indicated that he's gone through several rounds of interviews, but wants to be "deliberate" about this appointment. He indicated he's interested in finding someone who has unimpeachable character and who has some tangential relation to elections. "We're finding that to be a bit of a challenge," he admitted.

Of course, the ideal appointment would be Amy Hess, but she has no interest.

Perhaps McClure should reconsider an employee who applied from inside the elections office. This person has an associates degree in computer science and several years of experience in the elections office. He also has managerial experience in the private sector. He's also completely nonpartisan.

The person you referenced was highly recommended by Ms. Cozze. The problem is unless they are willing to kiss the ring of McClure and be subjugated by Dertinger, they have no chance.

It is about taking orders not skill. You know that, but you do cover for him.

You couldn't pay me enough to take a job like this in our current political atmosphere. Every time the election didn't go their way, you would be facing ceaseless harassment by republicans.

I think Jenna would make a great fit. She basically runs that office from behind the curtains..

Lamont last night said they were having a hard time fielding outside candidates who had any election experience at all, but there's already someone with all the necessary experience ready and willing to do the job working for the county already? I think that tells you all you need to know about the state of Career Services in the county.

I was with you until the last sentence. You're trying too hard. Nobody is nonpartisan. It's an impossible standard. What's more important is honesty and integrity. An honest person would never claim to be nonpartisan, just honest. Cozze was radically left, but radically honest. It worked. NorCo ran model elections under her watch. I'm a lifelong R who takes no joy in admitting this. Not all things are tribal.

She would but neither she nor Amy want it.

The person must be a subservient politician, loyal to the boss.

Monty trying to say Ms. Hess doesn't want someone hired is B.S. She wanted the qualified applicant from her office hired. Instead they're going to pay astronomical amounts of money to the voting machine company to cover their asses. Good Plan Chuckie. This administration is such a joke.

He is waiting for who offers him the most perks.

This administration is the worst in county history. He makes Brown's and Reibmannnnn's administrations look like well-oiled machines. What an unmitigated disaster. Lamont rarely showed up as a council member. I suspect he's mailing in his executive performance and has no clue and little interest. That's Lamont's brand.

Anon 12:55 aka Amy Cozze: Don’t you have a job during the day. I’m sure Senator Casey would be pisses at you commenting during the work day and attacking one of his political friends.

8:35am wow, Mclure seems extra butthurt about cozee leaving. He should probably look into therapy for that.

anon 9:35 aka Chucky or Steevie. Don't you think that Senator Casey is a bit less than a "friend" to another overly ambitious local politician with delusions of grandeur?

So they have a qualified in-house person who is recommended by the outgoing registrar but Dertinger won't hire them? Hmm, sounds like they won't kiss Charlie's ass enough.

Amy Cozze ran a good election, and did a great job in many ways. But nobody is indispensable. I doubt very much that McClure was hurt. He also has no obligation to name the person she recommended. He is the Exec, not her. In fact, her recommendation probably did more harm than good.

I do think McClure should take a second look at this in-house applicant, but that is his call.
