The Butcher of Bucha

I am shocked by the photos and video footage I've seen of the murders committed by fleeing Russian troops in Ukraine. They include a picture of at least one person shot in the back of the head with his hands tied behind his back. Another shows a civilian who was shot while riding a bicycle. One street in Bucha is strewn with corpses that Russian soldiers left there to rot.  There is also evidence of a mass grave.

Earlier in the course of this invasion, I received and rejected numerous comments calling for the assassination of Vladimir Putin. I detest seeing anyone targeted without first being afforded due process of law. But I believe Joe Biden was absolutely correct when he stated quite clearly that the Butcher of Bucha  needs to be removed from office. The recent evidence demonstrates this really is necessary.

Now Russia has dismissed the footage of mass murders as "fake news."  This denial was effectively debunked by this video from France 24.

One month ago, former President Donald Trump stated Putin's invasion was "very savvy" and "genius."  No,he's a butcher who has become a pariah to most of the world.

I suspect Trump was simply referring to Putin's strategy of waiting for Biden to be sworn in before continuing what he started under Obama and only paused when Donny Orange was POTUS.
WaiYour standard fealty to your Trump derangement notwithstanding, who cares and why are you obsessed with Russia? As President Obama reminded a misguided Senator Romney, "The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back."

If you think you and Hunter's "Big Guy" dad have a better grasp of Russia than Barack Hussein Obama, please just say it. He won a Nobel Peace Prize and pronounced things like "Copenhaaaagen." What are your foreign relations accomplishments?

The worst of the worst was the 3 year old girl who was raped/shot and had her hands tied together. 3 years old.

Absolutely heartbreaking.

Yes, we need to nuke the rest of the world now, to make it safe for democracy.

And where has Trump indicated how he would handle the Russan invasion any differently?

The problem is that we've ignored Palestinian butchers for years, just recently releasing some of them from GitMo. That emboldens other butchers who think they can get away with it too.

Putin should be brought to heel, of course, but it very well may not have been necessary if we hadn't telegraphed to him that we will tolerate atrocities.

Former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yakonovitch and Former Trump Defense Secretary John Bolton have stated repeatedly that Trump told Putin that he has to "talk tough" about Russia in front of the camera to keep his base happy, but ignore his rhetoric.

Trump further told Putin to wait until his second term to invade Ukraine, because he (trump) had every intention of removing America from NATO.

They (and many others in Trump's administration) were appalled at trump's treatment of Ukraine and his attempt to blackmail Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump helped caused this genocide. He's a war criminal.

He said that on Feb 22. The actual invasion of Ukraine happened on Feb 24. At most, on Feb 22 we were still at the "minor incursion" stage, if that.

Of course, according to one of your very smart commenters a few days ago, "off the cuff" comments are OK and concentrating on them is merely chasing shiny baubles to distract people.

It is hard to believe that in this era wartime atrocities as bad as these can be perpetrated by a professional standing army. It just demonstrates how poorly trained and poorly disciplined the Russian army is. They are a paper tiger, but one with a nuclear shadow. We do not fear their conventional military forces. But their leader is a psychopath, and no one wants a nuclear confrontation. War crimes were committed and must be prosecuted.Russia has become a pariah that requires regime change. No tears will be shed if Putin is assassinated.

Probably just wanted to indicate he would have more "flexibility."

@11:19 - I'm sure you had no use for Bolton during the last administration but now laud him as the teller of absolute truth. If you read the book, he says he "thinks" Trump was going to pull us out of NATO and "thinks" that Trump was encouraging Putin the invade Ukraine. And now you call Trump a war criminal for what didn't happen under his watch but was let to happen under Biden's? Same illogical thinking you used for Afghanistan for Trump's considering an option that wasn't used and Biden's actually doing it without the planning Trump might have used. Conjecture versus reality. I think @9:39 is correct.

Absolutely correct.

When will Trump be tried and sentenced for the crimes he committed while President and the insurrection?

Trump told Putin to wait until he left office to invade Ukraine? What is your source for that bold claim? MSNBC?

Anonymous said...

so, did anyone think that maybe some of those killed were collaborators of the russian occupation? How are Ukrainians treating those who were friendly with the russians?

It appears alot of your readers want to blame everything in this world on trump

His place now is to not intervene in sensitive matters such as these.

Unless Putin signed an order directing the killing of civilians you will not get him on a war crime.
You might force him out of power and he can just stay within Russian borders and he will be safe.
More likely the local Russian commander decided to use fear to control the population.
Again if that guy stays within Russian borders no justice will be found.
Probably a safe bet that orders will be found from one of the Russian generals that got killed.

Recently, I attended an event at the Fire Company in Cherryville. There was a big, fat, loudmouth sitting at the end of our table with a t-shirt that read "F--k Biden", "My President is Donald Trump". He wasn't in his twenty's and I would judge him to be around fifty. I did overhear him telling others at the table what a great President Donald Trump was an what a
f-----g asshole Biden is. Fortunately everyone respected his right to be wrong and nobody dumped a beer on him. He was to dumb to realize he was the F---ken asshole and people looked at him with disbelief that anyone could be so stupid. What a waste of a human life.

What Putin has done is unthinkable and he must be held accountable. We as Americans should be outraged that this has occurred and help in whatever way we can.

Nobody batted an eye when the good ole, best in the game, all time winner of imperialistic endeavors, United States of America bombed and destroyed brown people in the Middle East for nonexistent WMDs.

Why didn’t those families benefitted from the same coverage? Don’t answer that, I know what the answer is.

My thoughts go out to everyone affected by this invasion in Ukraine, but there’s very little difference historically between Russia and the US, they’re both warmongers that kill to have their interest fulfilled. Don’t be fooled.

The US miraculously change the camera lens when white people with blue eyes are ravaged by war.

Bunch of fucking hypocrites.

@5:42; Whats the difference between that fat guy in Cherryville and the thousands of vagina hat wearing hate mongerers that paraded around DC days after Trump won in 2016? What about the dozens of talking heads on TV that harangued Trump as a Russian agent due to the BS Russia-gate fraud that Hillary put out to the masses?
American politics is fraught with corruption, Trump included. Yet for some, Trump could do no right, while Obama, Clinton, Kerry, etc were sparkling clean. Its all BS.
Your complaint of the fat guy in Cherryville and your comments of him being a "waste of life", forgets to include your own forgetfulness of the other sides 4 years of crap.

@5:39 - The General who gave the order to kill civilians was put there by Putin. The buck stops at his desk in his office in the Kremlin or whatever Dacha he's hiding in these days.

Frankly I hate "Resolutions" made in congress as they seem to be epic time wasters and unproductive ceremonial bullshit. 63 members of congress yesterday voted against NATO and its "support for shared democratic values and committed to enhancing NATO's capacity to strengthen democratic institutions within NATO member, partner, and aspirant countries."

63 morons who will burn in hell one day.

Fucking pathetic partisan shit stains elected to congress. This country is going down the tubes.

@5:42 - this is the problem with our country today - the fact that someone seemingly cares so much about politics they have to wear a t-shirt or fly a flag or have a sign in their yard and its months away from a primary let alone a general election.

People have lost their minds in this country. I blame the media for talking about it non stop, and moreso the idiots who tune in religiously.

@5:42
What did you expect to find at a firehouse in Cherryhill? A bunch of Fu…g rednecks who are most definitely racists, there is no other sensible reason to wear the stupid MAGA hat.

Not sure why you then chose to live in the United States of America.

Whether you agree or disagree with any of Bernie's publishings it is most disheartening as a reader (and I would think for Bernie). After all the time he puts in to get such vulgar responses. The anger in the answers is palpable and says alot about where our country stands today. Rather than work together we prefer bashing each other for different opinions. That's not going to make things better here. We have much to be thankful for. Even the ability to disagree in a free country. But must you all be so vile?

We are where we are today because of Trump's pandering to Putin.

This is not your country. You decimated the indigenous population and built this land on the backs of black slaves. It’s YOU that need to go back to Europe and take your shitty constitution with you.
