WLVR, Your Local Information News Source?

I enjoy listening to WHYY in Philly because it includes a variety of interesting news programs. The focus of most of these shows is national, but Radio Times delves into Philly and state issues. I often wished we had something similar here in the Lehigh Valley. It turns out we do. WLVR (93.1 FM) declares it is "your full-service NPR news and information station serving the Lehigh Valley!" I just discovered this station yesterday, and it carries many of the same programs I hear on WHYY. That's a good thing. But there is very little in the way of local coverage. I really think the community would benefit from a daily show like Radio Times.

AM talk radio host Bobby Gunther Walsh does sometimes feature local guests, but I think the community could use a lot more coverage. I would also like a show that encourages active participation.

WDIY has been around for 25 years now and has NPR shows, music programming, and local interest shows. 88.1

NPR is like butt sex...warm and welcoming at first but in the end it's nothing but shit.

WDIY is great if you like certain kinds of music. Its local coverage is pretty much horrible. Lehigh Valley Discourse is the only attempt at informing the public locally, and it pretty much sucks. It is perhaps one of the worst programs on the air, from boring hosts and guests to a lousy format. WLVR has the potential to be much more informative. It needs a LOCAL daily show akin to Radio Times.

Bernie, your dismissal of WDIY 88.1 public radio is off the mark. It doesn't have just "certain kinds of music": it has classical, jazz, folk, Celtic, emerging bands, pop and more. It has been the Lehigh Valley's NPR station for 25 years: carrying Morning Edition, Fresh Air, All Things Considered, Weekend Edition. Local-oriented programming is not just LV Discourse: there's LV Arts Salon, Your Financial Choices, On Every Main Street. I think if you listen to WDIY a few more times on different days, you might get the full picture. Otherwise, how did it last for 25 years? - Don

Don, I listen to YOU, lol, when you host WDIY. I was not dismissive of WDIY. I said it’s great, especially for boomers. It is way off the mark for younger tastes in music. Most of the hosts are geriatrics. And the local programming frankly sucks. Believe me, I have listened. It is mostly music for old farts who think they must have wonderful taste. It’s shortcomings are pre Isley why a station like LVR is a good thing, but that station needs to get local, like it set it wants to be.

I miss when Ron Angle had his radio show and talked about the farm. Mr. Poop the cow was my favorite
