John Morganelli to Run for Congress

From John Morganelli: “Today I filed  the required paperwork with the Federal Election Commission which represents the first step in order to seek the Democratic nomination for the House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District. This district is currently represented by Republican Charlie Dent who announced he will not seek re-election. It is my intention  to circulate petitions in February in order to secure the 1000 required signatures to get on the ballot.

“Over the next few months I will outline my views on the important issues facing our nation. I have respect for all the candidates who have so far announced their intentions to seek this office. I look forward to meeting them through the course of this campaign and to discuss the issues with them in a civil and respectful manner. You can learn more about me at my web site  www.johnmorganelli.com.”

WFMZ says he threw his hat into the race. Damn terrible waste of a hat.

He's the best candidate so far on the democratic side. Bette than the "Fed Ed" supported candidate, Ms. Wilde.

The irony abounds. ...40 years ago John and a very young Bob Donchez managed one of the most historical upsets in Lehigh Valley political history. An unknown Lehigh university professor answered a Morning Call ad by the Lehigh county Republican Committee to run for Congress against local institution, Honorable Fred B. Rooney. As the Co campaign manager, John had a first row seat to a harbinger of the next 14 years. The loss by Democrat Rooney to Republican Ritter, finds cosmic justice in John''s congressional campaign. Only John and Lisa Boscola last have a chance in the gerrymandered, 15th. Alas, a Team Blue win albeit John will bring a bright purple to the Congress. A 62 year old freshman Congressman must make the late great Claude Pepper smile. Good luck, John. Historical irony is on your side.

but if he is elected who will pull donchezs puppet strings

Charlie Dent has more Democratic values than this guy.

Who will replace him, His Son??

Not true Morganelli would have voted against the the absurd tax give-a-way-will-causea-a-recession bill; for preserving Medicare, medicaid, affordable care act; a higher minimum wage; regulatory protections for workers and on and on...Dent was a toady to GOP overlords on every issue affecting working familees, seniors.

Right after the election Morganelli was going around bragging that he voted for Trump. He had been mancrushing Atty Gen Sessions for months. At least Dent had the decency not to vote for Trump ( he wrote in Kasich). He is not a Dem let alone a progressive. In my opinion as a voter, given what a disaster trump has been if you voted for him that is a disqualifier and something tells me many primary voting D's in the 15th will see it the same way. Someone in the media has to ask him who he voted for for President and the voters deserve an honest answer! What say you John M!?

Interesting, I did not know/hear that. Problematic but not the end. He can frame it as a "progressive" vote in the primal scream sense of anti-trade, anti-Nafta etc. If he does that he remains on the side of blue collar voters; seniors whom the Donald promised not to cut medicare and social security. He is going to win.....and be a key swing vote int he Congress

"Right after the election Morganelli was going around bragging that he voted for Trump."

That may or may not be true. I don't put much stock in your comment bc you are anonymous. I see John nearly every day, and he never told me he voted for Trump. But I know many Dems who did and now regret it. I know John genuinely liked Trump bc he has met him a few times, but is very disappointed in him.

John is a conservative Democrat. His thinking is akin to the typical blue collar voter, which are his roots. He is the only Dem who can win in the 15th. But once he does, it gives Dems a foothold and opens the door to his successor in perhaps just one or two terms. The smart play here is to support John in exchange for John's support down the road.

"Who will replace him, His Son??"

This is yet another problem with the HRC. That sez that Council chooses the replacement, but it is the courts who do so for a DA.

Mr.Morganelli has entered the race giving L.V. the choice not to have vote for Susan Wild.It is My understanding that all Allentown City contracts went thru Ms. Wild's office.I believe Ms. Wild's chief assistant pleaded guilty in the Pawloski pay to play operations

Bernie O'Hare said...

"Bette than the "Fed Ed" supported candidate, Ms. Wilde."

I understand the politics of tying Wild to Fed Ed, but that's all it is. Susan Wild acted with integrity as Allentown's solicitor. As I gave my profession a black eye, she was a voice of decency whose allegiance was to the law, not Fed Ed or Council. I admire Susan, and so does John.

There are a lot of good Democrats interested in this seat. Only one can win, and that person is John Morganelli.

Morganelli had pictures of himself and his son with Trump and praising Trump all over his Twitter, as recently as two months ago. I have a hard time imagining how he would make it through a Democratic Primary.

See my comments above.

Honestly at this point it is Edwards and not Wild, Who is in the best position at this point. I think you are underestimating his strength in a Democratic primary

Bernie O'Hare said...

Lol. It's a good thing Edwards is a preacher because he has no prayer. Wild has some traction bc she is a woman. Edwards has none.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if Edwards could win a general in the 15th,but right now he is in a position. Where he has a good chance of winning a Democratic primary.

Ms. Wild knew Her connection to Mr. Pawloski would be her major problem in the Congressional race. Her problem was confounded when Mr. Morganelli entered the primary.

1:38, As John himself explained, his Trump tweets were basically tongue in cheek. He never seriously thought he would be picked as US Attorney. Also his tweets were sent early in Trump’s presidency, at that time, a majority of Pennsylvania residents supported Trump. Is it a sin for Dems to talk to Rs? I realize that the partisans shrink in horror at this, but this is one of the many things I like about JM. When the tea party invites Ds to an event, they turn their noses up and walk away. John goes.

@11:06 Please, John did not vote for Trump because Hillary was not progressive enough or because he was some kind of Bernie Bro. It is very clear from his tweets and pictures he liked and supported Trump for Trump. Again I see this as a litmus test in the current environment and think the Dem primary voters deserve to know if he voted for Trump and this disaster.

Yes Bernie both of which disqualify him for being a candidate in the Democratic party

Moganelli will turn out to be the Lehigh Valley's very own Harold Stassen.

Edwards is a complete fraud. He is neither a man of God nor a viable candidate. His platform is pro-choice, free healthcare, free-education, etc... He is nothing but, an opportunist that is into entitlement programs, increased taxes and big government. I would never trust this deceitful propaganda spewing, full of hate candidate.

Anonymous said...

He will divide the party as badly as Sam Bennett did

Don't know about the Trump thing, but if he stays true to his previous principles (anti sanctuary city, pro death penalty, strong on law and order) he'll be shunned by Dems in DC. Remember what happened to Paul McHale? And he was a true social liberal, just pro military and not a fan of Clinton.

Of course he could just cave for purposes of political expediency, like Casey Jr.

Dent did not vote for Trump and was pro choice!
Morganelli voted for Trump and is anti choice (in the year of the woman!)
Folks, we can not go backwards! We can not let Morganelli be the standard bearer for Democrats in the 15th. We have all the energy and grass roots activity. NO democrats are is going to get excited about a Morganelli candidacy and we will lose in November. He can not be our nominee. He is more Republican than Dent!

Puh-lease.

Allow me to dissect this comment, posted by an anonymous hack who may actually be working for the GOP.

First, it is anonymous and thus is entitled to no credibility. Second, it lies. It stated Morganelli voted for Trump, but offers no proof. It states Morganelli is anti-choice, but offers no proof. Third, it slams Casey, which leads me to believe the comment is from a GOP hack.

I will be deleting anonymous trolls who offer nothing but disinformation.

John is running to represent the 15th district, not the DCCC. The only thing they excel at is losing.

Bernie O'Hare said...

"Bernie, have you actually met Edwards or had any conversations with him? You do this often, bash candidates you don't know early in campaigns. Why not maintain some objectivity until you see some of these people in action?"

I have met him one-on-one and have listened to him several times. He can be entertaining, but extremely egotistical. He has no base, no money and no prayer. His views are to the far left of 15th district voters.

I am a blogger. My fidelity is to the truth, not "objectivity." Objectively speaking, Edwards has already lost.

I am deleting the rest of your comment bc it is disinformation, speaking objectively.

The White male ,and a Occidental is the most hated individual in the world right now ,So if f you are in that category, beware! Evan though you probably pay most of the tax’s and straighten your kids teeth and send in more money to local charities, your the most hated . Last night on Ophra Winfrey was a star among the liberals. Beware, this could be a issue to what comes next. This DA is a great man but buy the time he runs for this election ,things are going to change nationally. The tide will perhaps suck him under. This tide will be generated by rich Hollywood types that get exposure from liberal media. John is capable and honest .

I hate to tell you this Bernie but Edwards at this point has raised more than anymore else, in the race.

Anonymous said...

Edwards will have raised more than double anyone else when reports come out on the 31st. I'm very confident in that assertion.

As for him being too far left, I don't think so. Bernie and Hillary were basically 50/50 in the 15th in the pa primary in 2016. This area is not as conservative as you are Mr. O'hare.

There are a lot of people in the valley that will support a strong progressive candidate and I think that number has only increased since the debacle that is Trump.

Morganelli will be persona non grata for both statewide and national dems, who will do everything in their power to block his victory.

As for him being 'egotistical', that's an interesting way of phrasing it. I wonder why you feel that way.

Bernie O'Hare said...

You can keep wondering until you say who you are. Since you know so much about how much money he has raised, i concludevyou are in his camp of three or Edwards himself.

Anonymous said...

Bernie, I'm not Edwards nor a part of his campaign. I just find it interesting that you are bashing his candidacy without knowing much about it.

In my other comment I mentioned Susan Wild, and how she would never let Morganelli get away with being an open Trump supporter.

Does that mean I'm a Wild supporter too?

I'm just a progressive democrat who wants to see a real progressive win and not a turncoat who will immediately switch parties as soon as it becomes convenient.

As a supporter of Mr. Morganelli, this is summarily false. Senator Boscola could and would win. Her deference to John is admirable. However in the fullness of time she needs to be only the 4th woman in a generation+---over a quarter of a century to be elected to the Congress from Pennsylvania (Margolis, Hart, Scwartz)

Bernie O'Hare said...

Lisa Boscola would have no problem getting re-elected to the state senate. People overlook her considerable baggage in her state senate district, but a different group of voters would decide congress. I'm afraid a campaign would be very unkind to her.

Anonymous said...

I do not disagree with your characterization especially the kind of campaign which would be run against her. However, her record of achievement and personal tenacity would prevail congressional district-wide.
