The Express Times has a story about Tom Nolan, a Bethlehem Township Commissioner seeking reelection to this $4,125 part-time position in the Township's First Ward. Nolan's news release is below:
Thomas J. Nolan, who has been a part of Bethlehem Township government in some capacity for more than 30 years, announced this week that he will seek re-election as a Commissioner from the Township’s First Ward.
He has served the Township in various capacities over the years. As a member of the Township Planning Commission for 26 years, he has been involved with the growth of the Township and is aware of the problems that accompany rapid growth. “I have worked for the residents of Bethlehem Township to ensure that we have adequate police and fire protection, that we have recreational programs, both active and passive, to serve all the residents and we have maintained strong fiscal accountability during my terms.”
He was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in 1985 and was elected to a four-year term in 1987, 2004 and 2008. He presently serves as the township representative on the Two Rivers Council of Government, serving as President the past 5 years and also as a member of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission the past two years. He was appointed in 2010 by the Northampton County Council as a Trustee, and elected as Treasurer, of the new Northampton County Gaming Revenue and Economic Redevelopment Authority. This Authority is responsible for grant programs to Northampton County municipalities based on revenue coming from the Sands Casino. He is a Trustee on the Bethlehem Area Education Foundation, serving as Treasurer. He continues to work with the Freedom High School Choir Program, founding and serving as past President of the Choir Association.
A graduate of Scranton University with a BS in Electronics Engineering, he continues his professional career as a Project Engineer with Lehigh Heavy Forge Corporation. “I feel that my professional business management experience, together with the knowledge and experience gained as a Commissioner will enable me to effectively serve the citizens of Bethlehem Township.”

Republican Jerry Batcha has previously decided against seeking reelecton, sayng it's time to encourage someone new to run. Michael Hudak, a Ward2 Commissioner and Bethlehem Township's sole Democrat, has a Facebook page for his reelection.
Arthur Murphy, an at-large Commissioner whose term is up this year, faces a primary challenge by Martin Zawarski. Murphy is one of twenty-eight Northampton County elected leaders who had a 100% attendance record between August 2009 and October 2010. Nolan's attendance during that time period is 96.43%, while Hudak is at 89.29%.
