At tonight's meeting of Northampton County Council, an ordinance establishing a Human Relations Commission will be introduced. The text will be available tomorrow, at which time two sponsors will be identified. Bethlehem, Allentown and Lehigh County have all established Human Relations Commissions. Most human relations commissions were inspired by the Civil Rights movement in the '60s.
In other business, Council will consider an "ICE warehouse resolution."

Any ICE warehouse resolution will no doubt be an attempt to prohibit them from being established in Northampton County. That’s such a trendy point of view these days. Why not do better?
I’d like these brainiacs to propose that all ICE detainees waiting to be deported be housed at any existing Northampton County hotel. You know, Hampton Inns, Hilton properties, etc. Average daily occupancy there runs about 70%, so there’s surely enough stock to do this job right. Besides, we have an unlimited amount of federal tax dollars to draw from, and maybe even snag some of the tourism money being thrown around.
I'll take "Moronic Council Resolutions" for $300, Alex.
Two feel good motions. Do some real work that benefits the citizens.
“In other business, Council will consider an "ICE warehouse resolution." So basically they’re going to waste time on something they have no control over and will probably never happen anyway. How efficient.
Always looking to expand government. Trying to use local government to make national political statements. The Zrinski administration will not end well.
What? No silly resolution to end the war with Iran?
Can we attach an amendment to the HR resolution to ban plastic straws?
Democratic socialism is gradually making its way into local government, thanks to the voters.
Doubtful. It's far more likely she will easily be re-elected to a second term.
The ordinance does help people, just not you! Poor youuuu, you poor thing feels left out. You must be a bloated white guy with a goatee.
Yes! Ban straws and single use plastic bags too!!
That's why people vote, right? That's democracy!! You're an idiot to say something so freaking stupid!!!
If only Tara and some of those Democrats on council were as smart and important as they think they are. I personally think some of the "newbies" might be wondering now why they thought being a "commissioner" was such a good idea. It is like watching a movie with a bad, predictable script. It is so clear that they have truly no idea or clue what they are doing. They grasp at shiny objects and then deny they exist. Nothing is their fault and "I didn't know"
is often their retort when questioned about revelations that are brought to their attention by citizens or the media. No one is truly buying this nonsense. They should remember the meetings are recorded and can be easily referenced.
Why put them at a hotel? Why not at Gracedale?
Surely these fine illegal immigrants would be beneficial to the facility and wouldn’t jeopardize resident safety in the least!
The county would have complete control over making sure that the criminal illegals were treated humanely and kept out of the hands of the evil feds. The county could naturally charge appropriate rent and doing so might even save Gracedale!
Only one thing has to happen before that: Each Council Member supporting the resolution would have to personally take three criminal illegals into their homes. The County Executive can do the same. There would be no rent charged/paid for those people since I wouldn’t want our county politicians to be accused of making a profit off of the disadvantaged, and I know that hate (and profit motive) has no home in their homes (I think I saw something like that on a yard sign).
It’s not enough to just talk the talk. I want to see leadership by example!
Let’s see how Gracedale’s gets handled.
Kelly you can’t help yourself lol.
Kelly you’re busy on here I see.
It helps no one because Northampton County council has absolutely no say in what warehouse owners can do. They’re wasting time posturing.
