At their very first meeting in January, Northampton County Council will decide on a new President, VP, and Council Solicitor for 2026. I expect that just as County Council has changed, so will its leadership. Lori Vargo Heffner has presided over County Council for the past two years. She deserves credit as a fierce advocate of Council oversight. That has been missing in all levels of government for decades. But she also deserves criticism for micromanaging purely administrative functions and for a complete inability to establish some sort of rapport with the Executive. I know it takes two to tango (or in this case, not tango) but this poor relationship is contrary to the best interests of county government. Moreover, she has a frosty relationship (if any0 with incoming Exec Tara Zrinski . For that reason, I doubt that five members of County Council will want her leading them this year. That's just as well for her, too. She took a lot of heat for her stances opposed to Lamont McClure, and things got ugly for her at times. So who will be President, if not her?
The logical choice would be Ken Kraft, who would work with Zrinski and keep a tight leash on the craziness that might come with Nadeem Qayuum. But my guess is that he'll defer to Jeff Warren. Since it takes Warren three hours just to say "Good Morning!," that means meetings will go on much longer as Warren pontificates on everything. He's a terrible choice, but is running for State Rep., and apparently thinks that his campaign literature will look bettewr if he identifies himself as Council President,

Heffner was an awful Council President. Spadoni was a bad choice for Solicitor. Anyone but Nadeem will be an improvement
My money is on Keegan
I wonder if Crazy Qayyum will even attend council meetings. His spouse was frequently called out for not attending Easton city council meetings, to the point where the mayor and council wanted to punish her for her absences.
As for leadership, they are going to elect Keegan. The nuts will choose the head nut. Plus, Keegan and Zrinski are cut from the same rag, er, cloth. Council is just going to chug Zrinski's Flavor-Aid anyway.
Coming Soon: “The Big Disappointment”
So I wonder who we'd been discussing if the voters had known the full truth about who shut down the government and the actual state of the economy (inflation down to 2.7 from 3). It truly is scary to think that Keegan could be the next council president since she truly has no leadership skills but hey - how much worse can things truly get here in Northampton County? I believe we are about to find out.
I nominate Nadeem for Council Pres. Taiba will help him run the show. Lmao.
While Kraft would undoubtedly be the most sensible and experienced selection for the position, given his deep understanding of County Council operations, it seems quite plausible that LVH and the recently inducted members, who appear to be rather unfamiliar with the intricacies of county governance, might surprisingly opt to reappoint LVH. This prospect, if it materializes, promises to generate a considerable amount of interesting and engaging content for you, Bernie, and I anticipate it will be a particularly noteworthy period for your reporting.
It could be worse. Consider Allentown and Lehigh County.
LOL that would be a shit show!
The the bench doesn't appear very deep, Bernie.
Keegan would have my vote! If anyone is fearless it is her! She doesn't GAF what anyone thinks about her and she fights for what she believes in. You call her a rubber stamp but she has strayed from the pack quite a few times to qualify her as an independent.
She would have an ear piece with someone telling her what to say. Just look when she does speak, she’s reading her phone. Clueless.
Yeah, Council needs as Bernie says, an “ugly person” leading it with all her hatefulness.
I heard it said, more than anything else. what Council needs is a parlimentarian. ???????whatever the hell that means??????
Bernie, do you know, can Nadeem speak English? Is it true that his wife is going to serve as his interpreter and is that legal?
When he was campaigning for County Controller, he knocked on my door and spoke English very well.
Warren
It doesn't matter who is president of council. This county is 100% screwed.
Nadeem can certainly speak English very, very well.
Lol, we shall see.
My own experience with him is that he speaks English poorly, has a thick accent and does not appear to understand what others tell him. Two people above have a different opinion.
I have heard that he has expressed a desire that his wife join him at meetings to act as his interpreter. But that is just a rumor.
Both Kraft and Hefner are very aggressive, disrespectful and think they know more than they do. Time for a change. I agree, Warren and Giovanni are the best choices of the bunch. Merry Christmas politicos
Re: "does not appear to understand what others tell him"
Just like nearly every other local, state, and federal elected public official.
As for an interpreter, I get the impression that Sulktana runs the household. No doubt she'll be pulling his strings telling him what to say, support, and how to vote. To perform his future duties, an interpreter should not be allowed under any circumstances. If he feels he needs one, then he should withdraw and not take the oath next month. If you're not prepared to do the job you ran for, get lost.
And here I was thinking Kraft would be an okay choice. His snide little comment shows he doesn’t have the maturity to lead, but he sure is trying to show the newbies that he has their backs (until he doesn’t).
is it true that Taiba Sultana is Being hired to be Nadeem's translator? Doesnt he speak English?
Wow Mr.Kraft, strong words from someone who has bounced back and forth on the executive’s tail bone. How many positions did you get for the county?
Here’s a thought on Nadeem’s legitimate removal from office:
The PA Constitution provides exclusive grounds for removal of an elected official.
Article VI, Section 6..Misbehavior in Office clearly states it is an Impeachable Offense that occurs when there is a discovery of breach of a duty or performance, such as purposely forging a signature (s), with the intent to deceive with a corrupt motive …Nadeem did this …he should be
Impeached.
grow up
3:53 pm, as much as I would like to see the Sultana clan take a hike, the puppet didn’t falsify the petitions while in office, so I think he is in the clear. Heck, old Kenny has declared him capable, so the county will be in good hands.
I agree that we should give the new County Council a chance.
I would like an explanation from
Mr. Kraft as to why he removed his post. He stated that the incoming members were all capable and asserted this blog is filled with hate. Which thing made him remove the post? Guess he wants to be president again and can’t afford to ruffle feathers.
8:52, I find it amusing that an anonymous poster is demanding an explanation from someone who signed his name. No doubt the anonymous responses are why the comment was deleted. And I agree with him that many of the posters here are full of hate and really should take a close look at their own attitudes.
Interesting ….he falsely forged the signatures, BUT because he wasn’t in office ……it’s okay . Gotta love rationalizing
We really don’t have a choice to not give them a chance, they have 4 years to sink or swim.
And your name is?
In my experience with Nadeem, he understands English just fine but is somewhat difficult to understand because of his thick accent. I would imagine his wife, Taiba the Terrible, is more likely serving as the muscle. She has demonstrated little regard for laws designed to protect others, even her own children or candidates she’s gone up against such as Rep Freeman.
Perhaps we should ask why Lisa Boscola chose to allow Nadeem’s forgery to stand with no repercussions.
