NorCo Ends 2025 By Announcing $2.5 Million in Grants

As 2025 draws to a close, Northampton County has issued news releases detailing $1.7 million in grants this year for public safety, affordable housing, local planning, infrastructure, economic development, quality of life initiatives and tourism. No county real estate tax revenue is used for these grants. Instead, monies from hotel taxes and gaming are the basis of these awards. All of these grants are publiclyapproved by County Council after internal review.

The first set of awards, the Grow NorCo grants, is a competitive program designed to help local municipalities and nonprofits move forward with projects that might otherwise be delayed or eliminated. A list of the recipientsm, and amount received by each, is located here. The highest awrd amounts are $40,000. No grants were awarded to any for-profit ventures.

The second set of awards are $400,000 in affordable housing grants to 18 different non-profits, and you can view them here. All of these were approved by County Council. No money was given to any for-profit venture.

A third set of grants are $600,000 to "support local police, fire, and emergency medical service organizations with critical projects that enhance public safety throughout the county." They include P25 radio upgrades, license plate readers and vehicles used by first responders. You can see the awards here. They were all approved by County Council and no money was directed at any for-profit venture.

The final set of grants is $710,000 from hotel taxes to promote tourism in the local area. The recipients, as well as the amounts awarded to each, atre located here. All recipients are non-profits or municipalities and all awards were approved by County Council.

Yes, I've seen 294 pictures of McClure on Facebook handing out the big check. He also posts about it on a ton of social media pages. Nothing like the power of office. He couldn't buy that publicity! Sadly, he will get his ass kicked by Brooks. Bye bye Lamont.

Bob “Crooksy” Brooks ? Wasn’t he investigated by the FCC for the theft of satellite tv ? If so, that would give Crooksy relevant Federal experience, no ?

Why would anyone vote for a guy that has never been elected to office, has no experience for the job, has the nickname Crooksky, and also screwed over his family? That's the guy you're voting for?

Thank you Lamont for all the ways you helped small business owners with this grant money and also increased LV's economic development!

I call BS on the Chamber handout! Is is some kind of "Business" PAC?

The blog author would be wise to reflect upon 2025 , and each year proceeding it, to assess why his only accomplishment in life is a furious squall of lies that he etches daily on a Google platform. Speaks to himself, while posting fake responses from his imaginary friends, in hopes of vandalizing the reputations of good people. A literal demon who can't look in a mirror, because said mirror would shatter into a million glass shards. A proud liar who detests the truth daily

Thank you Lamont and Northampton County Council for helping to keep our business afloat during the pandemic. The State limitations on our business inhibited our success and the grant program administered by the county allowed us to continue to provide free services to veterans in need. Could not have done it without the assistance. My family and I are eternally grateful.

Saw them too. It Feels unlawful that a citizen cannot comment on the county’s Facebook posts

Lamont didn’t give you the funding, it is offered up each year depending on who makes a presentation worthy enough to grab it. He has no bearing on it, the council approves or turns it down.

There is no greater source of unaccounted for funds than the government. People pay taxes with the belief that their elected leaders spend money for all the people they represent. Sewer, roads, fire protection and mental health facilities. It is a legitimate question to ask why even a small fraction of this money is granted to "non profits" and roofers. Politicians hand out checks like it is from their personal accounts and collect good press and maybe favors along the way.

This seems very fishy. How much of this money pays gladhanders? The LV could use an investigative reporter instead of PR flaks in lieu of investigative reporters. We're probably being robbed blind.

Council approved them with limited information on how involved the executive is in deciding who gets what. McClure has a county payed employee following him to take pictures at all his publicity oversize check handouts. Is that necessary, or for campaign purposes. Swear there must be a thousand pictures of him online and folks thanking the county executive for giving them money. Just seems seemly, what with him running for congress and all.

How are these grants funded? Why is Northampton County able to help municiplaiites while Lehigh is not? Are these grants from Gaming funds? Meanwhile, Lehigh County has to spend millions to keep Baseball.

Maybe Northampton County screws their employees and retirees out of more money than Lehigh County. In Northampton County our wage scales are such that you never get to the top of your scale. County Council Republicans along with Lori Vulgar Heffner pointed out that no money was added to the Employees Retirement Fund and McClure is lying when he says the Retirement Fund is fully funded and the future medical costs are also fully funded. In Northampton County, retirees have lost more than 10% of their retirement pensions to inflation in just the last three years. It's easy to hand out money when you take it away from your employees and retirees.
