Is Gracedale's Administrator Resigning?

A rumor is circulating that Gracedale Administrator Michelle Morton is stepping down. She was only hired in March.

In August, Morton presented NorCo Council with a "strategic plan" for success to increase census and reduce the nursing home's reliance on agency nursing from 59% to 30% by June 2026. The latest budget proposal for Gracedale involves no county contribution.

According to her LinkedIn page, Morton has had 23 jobs since 1983. She's moved around a bit over the years. Though she is licensed as a nursing home administrator, her degree is in therapeutic recreation.

We'll know if the rumor is true tomorrow, when she meets with county administrators.

23 jobs since 1983. I had 7 jobs in that same time frame, and one recruiter suggested to me that was too many.

She’s been around long enough to know when a ship is sinking and the mess that McClure created. Get out while you can. Smart women.

It’s probably for the best if she does. TG or TZ will have to decide either to sell it, or raise taxes to maintain it, There is no financial vehicle established or considered to
Generate income for sustainability of the home. The Fed money will most likely not be there to cover its costs.

The latest budget also calls for no contribution to the pension plan. Its unhinged from reality and fiscally irresponsible. The Gracedale operating deficit for 2025 is likely be another $10+ million. It's not sustainable without a big tax increase.

She has stayed in the same field. It looks like she moves around a lot. Good for her though every positions seems to be a lateral move or a step up. From rec therapist to Nursing Home Administrator shows some smarts and some spirit.

Did anyone ever think McClure might be just too much to work for these days?

I can't wait for McCluless to be out of office- the real Lamont has shown his true colors in the past 2 years- incompetent, petulant, and vindictive.

Run a report to see how many people were hired, how long they stayed and when they quit under McClure’s leadership. You will be amazed. The good employees left.

Nursing & teaching professions are in a downward spiral, no respect anymore. Shame!

No pension plan contributions??? They better not give a penny of a tax break to the Dixie cup if the county isn't contributing to the county employees pension fund.
Lamont is a POS.
He ran this county into the hole. Bleed it dry. And did it on the backs of the county employees and people who depend on county services.

I have no problem with a tax increase for Gracedale it’s also not a political liability majority appreciate Gracedale

I personally don’t think she ever intended to stay. Maybe she was hired to “calm things down” until the election with promises of a strategic plan to “right the ship”. You need a “hair on fire” administrator for Gracedale; someone who will be honest about it. That hasn’t been the case for almost eight years.

I think she was driven out by the constant gracedale bashing that county council does, Brown, Goffredo and LVH. she does not have to put up with the constant shit LVH et al continues to dump on the home. Congratulations to her for moving and condemnation to LVH Brown and Goofy for disparaging the homes reputation on a monthly basis

I mean....there ARE still good employees left. Your comment was ignorant and clueless.

McCluless ran the County finances in the ground by spending Covid funds to balance Budgets- instead of contributing to the Employees Pension fund. Good riddance- but the next Executive will have a nightmare on their hands!

No the good employees left when Brown came in and gutted healthcare. McClure inherited the shit Brown created.

Yes, but what politician is willing to test the electorate in this way. Maybe it will be Tara, but the taxpayers I am sure have a limit.

You are insane. Gracedale is a mess, and its a McClure mess.

Yeah I am sure that Barron was also driven out by the bashing from council too. When Council is fighting with the exec it is has got to be hard to be in the middle. I'm surprised more in leadership have not left. The unholy trinity of Goffredo, Brown and Lori Vargo have worn on us all. Here is hoping that translates as the ballot box.

Covid money was not for pension plans. Check the status of the plan before making such comments.

I have no reason to doubt you but...if this is true, wow. That's nonfeasance bordering on malfeasance. Council "should" veto over that. They won't, but it's really the height of fiscal irresponsibility to vote for such a budget.

I agree- Mc Clure wasn't much better than Brownpants. We've had 2 bad Executives in a row.

Hire a professional firm to manage Gracedale. One that is dedicated to what's best for the Home, not the county executive.

For all of the bashing of the previous leadership there, it appears they ran a tighter ship and were more invested. The county did not invest in the staff there, so they left. It starts with Lamont the micromanager. Until the home is given the ability to make its own decisions without political input, it will likely not improve. To get the right leadership there in the home it will require going to professional management to pay the salaries of what it will take that are not possible through the county - $200k for the administrator and $150k for the nursing director, $175k for the cfo. To fill actual positions on the floors it will take $22 cna, $30 lpn and $40 rn. Instead the place is all high priced agency costing more than what proper county salaries would be.

Unfortunately I find when administrators change jobs frequently it's all about filling a license quickly and the NHA is not vested in their job. They leave when it starts to get hard. Not uncommon as they cam just go to the next place. Not accountable. Very sad.

Barron got a cushy job at the workforce board through McClure. The writing on the wall would have been termination from either candidate who takes over.

Relax. The county doesn’t “have” to contribute to the pension fund. Their lack of a contribution will not affect the pension fund, retirees and current employees wouldn’t even know the difference. Don’t be fear mongered by someone spewing information but not fully understanding what it means.
The pension fund is funded at about 91%. That is outstanding and a lot of that is due to the executives, Mr. Barron and the retirement board. Majority of municipal and county pension funds sit at 70-80% funded per the actuaries. Them skipping a contribution will not affect it! Remember Brown skipped 2 or 3 years of contributions and I’m sure you never even knew that.

lol taxpayers have a limit? County has raised taxes once in what 10-15 years? And a decrease a few years ago! lol you tax payers do understand that costs go up for the government also! They pay more for cleaning supplies, vehicles, benefits, pay raises, paper products, you name it! Employees deserve to be taken care of and county should have a nice slush fund for emergencies.

Tax me! Raise it 1-2 mills! I’d support an executive that does request a raise! Would cost me $40-$80 a year for 1-2 mill increase! You pay more in a year for your latte price increase then you would a county tax increase.. get a grip.

Even if the county doesn’t pay their contribution next year (they have paid the contribution every year Lamont was in office), the pension fund will be absolutely fine! You have no understanding of what you are talking about. Please reach out and ask someone that does.

McClure can't account for the employee money for which Barron bragged about avoiding indictment. But the problems started when the referendum to hang on to the place passed in an election with hardly any turnout. John Stoffa was a visionary who knew this would eventually happen. Bernie and Angle supporting the sale killed Stoffa's idea. Thanks, fellas. Now, we're one of the few remaining county owned LTCFs in the state. The ship has been sinking in painfully slow motion. Employees aren't dumb. They're watching it close up.
